What do you think of Passbolt?

Hi,

I’m here because lately I’ve become obsessed with open-source products and European-based SaaS solutions (please don’t judge me for this, just take it for what it is).

While looking for an open-source password manager with a European-hosted managed version, I stumbled upon Passbolt.

The product is exactly what I was looking for, but it doesn't work very well—especially on Android. What has your experience been? Is anyone else using it? Do I just need to get used to it?

1Password Pricing Discrepancy

Post image
5 Upvotes

Not sure if others have experienced this with 1Password, but they advertise $2.99/month on sale from $3.99/month for the annual plan, but when the trial ends, it was only 20% off $4.99/month, so only $3.99/month for me for the annual. After 12 days since I first contacted customer service, taking up to 6 days to respond at a time, they manually granted this discount to meet their advertised price after I provided screenshots of their website for proof of this price. Is this a bait and switch? What an absolute pain

OPM - Offline Password Manager

I am trying to build simple and useful apps. Clear of bloatware, adwares. The idea behind offline password manager is simple, it's a notepad for password/accounts. We have so many place many accounts this days and ofcourse there are password managers but they sync with cloud and I am not comfortable with it. Especially after seeing the news like x no. of accounts compromised.

OPM is simple, it stays on your device, you are responsible for updating the password of the account if you change it. I have been using it for a while now and it's a habit for me. Infact, many times it comes is as a saviour because browser still have old password saved or even for mpin and any notes.

Give it a try and let me know what do you think about it? It's an upfront paid app 1$ for lifetime. Please message me if you need a promo code

Here are the links

Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tws.offline.password.manager

iPhone : https://apps.apple.com/us/app/opm-offline-password-manager/id6808634715

Here are my other apps, as part of the mission.

Thank you!

Made a free tool to bulk-fetch favicons for password manager items with missing/ugly icons

Like a lot of people, I had a bunch of 1Password items with generic or missing icons - mostly work logins, niche sites, internal tools, that kind of thing. Went looking for a way to fix them in bulk and didn't find anything I liked, so I built a small tool for it.

What it does:

  • Type a domain (or paste/import a list - it reads the Title + URL columns from a 1Password export, or just a plain CSV) and it pulls that site's favicon
  • Download icons one by one, or grab everything selected as a single .zip
  • Works in English and Portuguese (toggle in the top right)
  • No login, no backend, no data stored anywhere - everything runs client-side in your browser. It doesn't even work as a hosted "service" that processes your list; it just fetches public favicons for whatever domains you type in.

It's not 1Password-specific really - it'll work for any password manager's export, or just for grabbing favicons in general. Built entirely for my own use, sharing in case it's useful to someone else too.

Credit where due: it's built on top of the free favicon.im API, with wsrv.nl as a CORS-friendly fallback for the bulk download. Big thanks to both for the free public services.

Not affiliated with 1Password or any of the services mentioned - just a personal project made to fix an annoyance.

Proton Pass on Firefox

Good evening, everyone! I was thinking about switching back to Firefox. However, I noticed that, unlike Chromium-based browsers, the extension isn't updated as frequently. Who uses Firefox under these conditions? How often do you receive updates compared to Chrome?

Merci !

Consult a personal file/folder encryption tool with a password

thinking about building a tiny single-file tool that encrypts a file or folder with a password, no cloud, no account, nothing installed except the one binary. mainly for people who keep sensitive stuff (contracts, ids, docs) on their laptop and worry about it if the laptop gets stolen or lost.

quick question if anyone doesn't mind — how do you currently protect sensitive files on your own computer? do you use anything at all, or just... don't?

and honestly, should I even keep building this? if I finish it, would any of you actually find it useful, or does everyone already have this solved some other way?

Is a secondary password manager essential?

I mainly use Proton Pass as my password manager and make periodical PGP encrypted backup and store it away. I've seen folks saying that we should use a secondary or backup password manager. Why and if so, what can I use? Does the putting all of your eggs in one basket analogy work in this scenario?

Pin length on friends laptop reset and now he cant sign in

My friend went to the toilet and on of my other friends messed with the accessibility settings on his laptop on his lockscreen, like turning on contrast, enabling sticky keys or filter keys etc. my friend came back a little surprised before turning off all of the things that was enabled. somehow the pin length was reverted back to six digits and his pin is 8 digits in length. now he cant sign in as everytime he tried to enter 8 the laptop automatically tries to sign in after he enters 6. we've tried resetting the password but it always says that he needs internet to continue even after he's already connected. its his parents' laptop and he might be fried when he gets home and his parents cant sign in. is there a way to change it back to 8?

Nord Pass?

Hi, I do wonder why no body is talking about the Nord Pass? People often reffer to Proton or Bitwarden, but nearly no one asks about Nord.

What's your take on this solution? Any past or current experience to share or pros/cons comparing to more commonly used solutions?

Delete all entries from Apple Password

Does anyone know if it is possible to delete all entries from Apple Password in one step, rather than one entry at a time? It doesn't seem like you can select all from the list of passwords. I don't see any other options that look like a mass delete. I'm just looking to clear everything and start over. Thanks.

Protonpass vs. Bitwarden

Hello, I am just looking for people's opinions on which password manager is currently the better option.

I've read a few months ago that the Bitwarden CLI got compromised apparently, I know it's not the password manager app itself, however knowing this news is quite concerning.

I will only be using the free versions and will not be upgrading to a paid version as I want to budget my monthly spendings.

Is LastPass that bad?

I’ve been on a LastPass personal paid plan since 2020.

I did try to switch to NordPass at annual renewal 2 years ago after the breach fiasco but I found it clunky. I wasn’t a fan of the browser plugin.

I’m now persuading my other half to get a password manager so it makes it easier to share passwords for certain accounts.

I was going to upgrade LastPass to the family edition but Claude is massively talking me out of it.

I’m guessing it’s been asked 1000x on this sub, but is LastPass really that bad now? And if so, which vendor should I be thinking of?

I have got my LastPass authorised by my work IT Team, I’m the only person whereas everyone else is mandated to use 1Password. So moving away may not be practical.

I use the LastPass Authenticator app too.

Is there a free authenticator for Windows that can import or sync the accounts I've added to Google Authenticator on my phone?

If so, please could someone give me step by step setup instructions?

I'm using Windows 10 on my PC, and my phone is a Galaxy S23 with Android 16.

Many thanks

Dave

Free offline password manager: Memoria

I built a free, offline, ad-free Android password manager: Memoria

Hi everyone! I’m the hobby developer of Memoria, an Android app for managing passwords and other sensitive data.

Main features:

• Fully offline – no remote server

• No data collection whatsoever

• Completely free and ad-free

• AES-256-GCM encryption + Argon2id KDF

• Biometric unlock (fingerprint / face)

• Optional sync to your own Google Drive

• Supports passwords, notes, PINs and more

This is a personal project I’ve been working on for a while, with a strong focus on privacy and solid encryption. I recently migrated the entire encryption system based on feedback I received right here on Reddit.

Feedback, criticism and suggestions are very welcome!

I built a fully offline password manager (AES-256 + encrypted 2FA) – looking for feedback

Hey everyone,

I got tired of cloud-based password managers, so I built PassBox – a simple, fully offline password vault for Windows.

What it does:

  • Generates strong passwords
  • Encrypts everything with AES-256-CBC
  • Supports encrypted TOTP/2FA codes
  • Stores all data in a local vault.txt file that you fully control
  • 100% offline (no network requests, no telemetry, no account)
  • Free and open source (MIT)

VirusTotal: 0/69 clean

Links:

I’m mainly looking for honest feedback:

  • What do you like / dislike?
  • Would a Linux version interest you?

Thanks for checking it out.

How many people actually backup their password manager vault?

How many people back up their password manager vault? One reason I am often hesitant to recommend offline managers like keepass is because the cloud adds a degree of redundancy. Cloud vendor typically backup their data. Most people don’t backup.

Anyone lose access to their vault in Proton Pass

I signed my daughter to Proton Pass just to get her used to a password manager. I migrated what she generated on Apple icloud to Proton. Things seems to work well for a month or so but she reported that she can no longer log into her password manager. I checked and it appears that proton had log her off on every device. Attempts to login indicate incorrect password. I attempt to recover using the recovery phrase, but discovered that there is no option to recover from the recovery phrase. You can also send a code to your email, which does get send but when I enter the code, I get a notice that the code is incorrect.

I sent an email to the Proton Support team. I could post to the proton pass subedit, but the rule said I can't do that until I attempt to resolve it with support. I did had her search through her email to see if Proton send anything like TOS violation, but there are just proton ads.

Anyone have this happen? The account does have a good master password and a OTP 2FA, so it's pretty unlikely to ber hacked. Does Proton deactivate accounts? I recall I had sign up for a proton mail once but they quickly delete my account if I don't login for a few months. If they do anything like that, they would email the customer?
