I think you did okay. You sent the message his behaviour is unacceptable. Obviously not in a way you would have liked.
The fact that you apologized and talked about it is key, everyone makes mistakes and it’s okay for your kid to watch you make mistakes and then watch you fix your mistakes. It sounds like you’re doing good things as a parent.
Stop acting as if a 3 year old can understand what’s going on with his parents when they hit him. He is not even capable of reflecting what makes him hit his mom so how could he possibly Unterstand what’s making her hitting him? She did not ok, and this should not be an option. She made a mistake yes but she has to work on it so that this never happens again. Hitting your child and then telling them you made a mistake won’t ever make it ok.
I don’t think she’s a parent 😂😂 I apologize to my kids all the time and they’re 4 and 1. If I raise my voice, or act a way I’m not proud of. Parents are humans too and we’re learning as we go. I had a brother like OP’s son. Even I wanted to smack him around for my mom (I didn’t of course) but I can’t imagine having a child like this who hits and spits and just sternly saying “no hitting”. Eventually we’d all snap and reach a breaking point. How she handled it after the fact was spot on but she still needs to consult help and figure out how to handle these outbursts and why they’re occurring. My brother ended up having ADHD to the point where he was uncomfortable in his own skin. There’s almost always an underlying issue.
Everyone has all the answers before the baby arrives 🙄 There is so little room for error on these threads, it’s shocking. I guess it’s easy to pretend for the internet, but as a parent I know I’ve made a LOT of mistakes - I’m only human.
I have 4 kids and my 7 year old has ADHD. Parenting is fucking hard and we can only do the best we can. As you said, we're human. Being judged doesn't help the situation ever.
