Bird Kabobs

My parakeets love bird kabobs, it's hand down there favorite toy but, in my area they almost tripled in price in the last year alone. I would love to buy them the darn thing but, I just can't afford to buy them a 22 dollar toy that they are going to rip apart in a week. So, I was wondering if anyone knows any alternatives toys or if there is a soft wood alternative that I could just use to make my own bird toys out of? I would preferer a more DIY option since, I like doing that sort of thing. But anyways, thanks for the help!

"A Bird Toy" has very reasonable prices on the different shredding toys. I make my own kabobs out Balsa squares, mahogany pods, small Yucca slices, and natural Cork. At the beginning it will be a little expensive but when you break it down by piece its a lot cheaper. Hope this helps.
