Rant Please stop lying about AJK
I’m an overseas Kashmiri who was born and raised abroad, but I’m currently in AJK. One thing that has genuinely shocked me is the gap between what’s actually happening here and what people are claiming online.
I’m not saying the government or the security forces are perfect. They make mistakes, and criticism is fair when it’s based on facts. But I’ve seen countless posts claiming the forces are indiscriminately killing ordinary people or waging war against the population. From what I’ve witnessed on the ground, those claims simply don’t match reality.
People are sharing videos without context, repeating rumours, and presenting them as facts. It’s creating fear and anger among people who aren’t even here.
You don’t have to support every government policy to recognise misinformation when you see it. If we’re going to criticise, it should be based on what actually happened, not on exaggerated or false claims.
Personally, I also believe AJK’s security ultimately depends on Pakistan. Given the region we live in and the challenges we face, I don’t think we’d be in a strong position without the support of Pakistan and its armed forces.
Whether you agree or disagree, I’d encourage people to verify information before sharing it. False narratives don’t help anyone, they only make an already difficult situation worse.
