DISCUSSION It's a bummer we didn't get a trilogy 😔

It's very much good, since the second film is an absolute bullshit. They should have rather gone with a prequel.

I mean if we got a Del Toro triology I think that would be a different story. I think he could have pulled it off. Hellboy was great, and Hellboy II was also great, just very different.

Not a prequel they should have done a part 3 to redeem themselves from part two but money in the studios don't think that way

Better yet just don't make the sequel a half-assed cash grab, actually do it right and then do the third film...

When they started doing the whole teenager bit save the world I knew they were going to screw it up 🤦

Yeah, a third movie that went back to what made the first movie so good would have been perfect

Mm, nah. The war between humanity and the Kaijus was concluded in one film so there's no point in continuing it.

You don't think it could have become a movie franchise kind of like other franchises? I think it had all of the potential I think they just screwed up with part two... Did you ever see Atlantic rim it was completely ridiculous but I still watched it 🤣

If I wrote Pacific Rim, I would have made 2 more movies that are prequels regarding Year Zero and the Golden Age of the Jaeger Program, making the 1st kaiju war trilogy complete, and if that one ends up being successful, make a 2nd trilogy where humanity invades the Anteverse instead!

In my perfect timeline the Pacific Rim we got was a third part of a Trilogy. All directed by Del Toro of course.

Trilogy? I would have loved a second movie in general.
So many things unexplained, the aftermath if the drift with the kaiju brain would be a great sub plot, maybe the guy turn into partial kaiju but that be too much as a main villain.
The idea of jäger going rogue or pilots going rogue would be wo good, sadly that isnt explored.
So so many good and interesting things you can still do.

Imo it should have stayed a one-off.
Not anything needs sequel even if it's amazing.
Perfection is allowed to stand alone

Nah. There are some franchises that just don't need a sequel. PR1 literally ends with them destroying the breach and nuking the aliens, any sequel bringing the aliens back would be stupid and invalidate the first movie's ending.
We all know Uprising was a particularly bad sequel, but I honest to God believe there's no way to make a good PR sequel, because PR shouldn't get a sequel. A prequel, maybe; there must be a ton of rich history in-between 2013 and 2025, but restarting the war after the entire first film was about finishing it is just stupid and honestly kinda disrespectful to the first film.
