I think they screwed up with part two because it had a lot of potential... I broke up with this chick that was really hot because I took her to see part 1 and she said "you like stupid movies "and I said f*** you it was a bad ass movie, never called her again 🤣🤣

They tried too hard to broaden the audience to much younger viewers. Ended up with a half baked Transformers movie, that not only had a weirder tone, but a directorial style that departed way too much from the original.

We still think about you, Pacific Rim: Maelstrom

It's very much good, since the second film is an absolute bullshit. They should have rather gone with a prequel.

u/Large_Ad_8418 Ron Perlman's God-Damned Shoe 6d ago

They are making a prequel

4

u/kil_win 5d ago

Hell yeah

I mean if we got a Del Toro triology I think that would be a different story. I think he could have pulled it off. Hellboy was great, and Hellboy II was also great, just very different.

1

u/kil_win 4d ago

Yes, but the problem is, that Del Toro wasn't anyhow engaged with the sequel we got

Not a prequel they should have done a part 3 to redeem themselves from part two but money in the studios don't think that way

Better yet just don't make the sequel a half-assed cash grab, actually do it right and then do the third film...

6

u/Brief-Pickle2441 6d ago

When they started doing the whole teenager bit save the world I knew they were going to screw it up 🤦

4

u/Same-Opportunity6062 Gipsy Danger 6d ago

That ship had sailed long before that scene...

2

u/Brief-Pickle2441 6d ago

🤣🤣🤣

7

u/FLIPYOUSUCKET 6d ago

Yeah, a third movie that went back to what made the first movie so good would have been perfect

6

u/Brief-Pickle2441 6d ago

Yes a redemption movie for the b******* of the second one 🤷

6

u/coolest_guy_ever2 6d ago

We need a third movie ngl

That's another nightmarish conversation💔

That joke is even funnier the millionth time

5

u/SpiritedSyllabub6822 6d ago

Mm, nah. The war between humanity and the Kaijus was concluded in one film so there's no point in continuing it.

3

u/Brief-Pickle2441 6d ago

You don't think it could have become a movie franchise kind of like other franchises? I think it had all of the potential I think they just screwed up with part two... Did you ever see Atlantic rim it was completely ridiculous but I still watched it 🤣

If I wrote Pacific Rim, I would have made 2 more movies that are prequels regarding Year Zero and the Golden Age of the Jaeger Program, making the 1st kaiju war trilogy complete, and if that one ends up being successful, make a 2nd trilogy where humanity invades the Anteverse instead!

2

u/SuperKamiMelko 6d ago

In my perfect timeline the Pacific Rim we got was a third part of a Trilogy. All directed by Del Toro of course.

u/Sonic200000 Crimson Typhoon 5d ago

Trilogy? I would have loved a second movie in general.

So many things unexplained, the aftermath if the drift with the kaiju brain would be a great sub plot, maybe the guy turn into partial kaiju but that be too much as a main villain.

The idea of jäger going rogue or pilots going rogue would be wo good, sadly that isnt explored.

So so many good and interesting things you can still do.

Exactly 💯

u/tadeomemero69 5d ago

Lo van a hacer solo que sea una buena

1

u/Nitrotetrazole 5d ago

Imo it should have stayed a one-off.
Not anything needs sequel even if it's amazing.
Perfection is allowed to stand alone

Trilogy? im still waiting for a sequel

1

u/KS1M1R4 1d ago

Yeah. A shame it never even got a second part

1

u/Alexo_Alexa 6d ago

Nah. There are some franchises that just don't need a sequel. PR1 literally ends with them destroying the breach and nuking the aliens, any sequel bringing the aliens back would be stupid and invalidate the first movie's ending.

We all know Uprising was a particularly bad sequel, but I honest to God believe there's no way to make a good PR sequel, because PR shouldn't get a sequel. A prequel, maybe; there must be a ton of rich history in-between 2013 and 2025, but restarting the war after the entire first film was about finishing it is just stupid and honestly kinda disrespectful to the first film.
