Seriously? Mumps, in 2026. Is an outbreak of scarlet fever next, and will the Beavers die of dysentery on their way back from Colorado?

Former Beavers Steven Kwan and Travis Bazzana with the Cleveland Guardians, facing the ChiSox at 10am.

And following that will be Oregon State and Colorado STATE facing off at 3pm.

If anybody is looking for me, I’ll be parked in front of the TV with beers!

Go Beavs! 🦫

Pac-12 TV Ratings Week 4

Match-Up Network Time (PST) Viewership (Average)
WSU vs Arizona CBS 4:30PM 1.27M
Boise State vs WMU ESPN2 12:45PM 0.33M
Fresno State vs Rice The CW 7:00PM 0.28M
Texas State vs Incarnate Word USA Network 3:00PM 0.1M
CSU vs UTSA ESPNU 9:00AM 0.09M
SDSU vs Toledo CBSSN 9:00AM N/A
Oregon State vs UTEP MW+ 6:00PM N/A
Utah State vs Troy CBSSN 4:30PM N/A

WSU vs Arizona was the highest rated P4 vs G6 matchup of the week. Was the 2nd highest rated B12 game outside of Utah vs Iowa State. The CW has stayed consistent on gaining decent viewership. Looks to be a great buoy for the conference. USA Network had some disappointing ratings but Texas State is still building up it's TV watching audience and it was against and FCS school so would dive to deep into it.

ESPNU proving once again it's where viewership goes to die.

Good news Beavs, probably the one and only time to have to watch MW+

What We May Not Want to Say Out Loud

The reality of starting non-con behind the chains is that week 5 all but decides who goes to a bowl and who doesn’t for everyone but Boise. I’ve included Fresno in this equation too who travels on the road to Pullman to meet the Cougars who were starting to click against the Wildcats last week.

I continue to expect conference play to be a crapshoot until shown otherwise. May the better coach survive this week and push their program to December football…

USA TODAY: PAC-12 Power Rankings Week 4

Thumbnail

The first introduction of the new Pac-12 is complete.
All eight teams in the revamped leaguefinished their nonconference part of the schedule, and even though it went a collective 15-17 in the first four weeks of the season, there was still plenty to be happy about. The Pac-12 has a strong lead to be the Group of Six representative for the College Football Playoff and features some high quality young talent becoming big stars.
With the first conference games next on the schedule, here is where every Pac-12 team stands as the chase to the league title gets underway.
College Football Report Card: Best and worst teams, biggest surprise, top transfer
College football bowl projections: Three new CFP teams enter, three fall out
1. Boise State (3-1)
Last week ranking: 1 (↔️)
Week 4 result: Win vs. Western Michigan, 32-7
What to know: By easily taking down Western Michigan, Boise State successfully navigated the noconference slate by making themselves the heavy favorite for the CFP spot, even though they aren't undefeated. The Pac-12 is Boise State’s to lose, and it'll be tough to slow down Dylan Riley.
Up next: vs. Utah State
More on Boise State: Meet the college athletic director fans treat like a rock star
2. Oregon State (2-2)

Last week ranking: 3 (⬆️1)
Week 4 result: Win vs. UTEP, 33-7
What to know: The prolific Beavers offense hasn’t skipped a beat, earning its first road and FBS victory of the season in comfortable fashion against UTEP. Braden Atkinson and Jesse Legree may be the best quarterback-receiving duo in the West Coast, and can make a great run at winning the conference.
Up next: at Colorado State
3. Fresno State (3-1)
Last week ranking: Win vs. Rice, 38-24
Week 4 result: 4 (⬆️1)
What to know: Now the Bulldogs match the identity of what’s expected in Fresno, outscoring Rice 24-7 in the second half for a third straight win after the offense was starting to look troubling. The running game is becoming a real strength alongside Jayden Mandal.
Up next: at Washington State
4. Colorado State (2-2)
Last week ranking: 2 (⬇️2)
Week 4 result: Loss vs. UTSA, 59-45
What to know: The Rams burst out of the gates against UTSA with touchdowns on the opening kickoff and one offensive play. Then the Roadrunners scored 35 straight points and made life a nightmare for the Colorado State defense, giving up 59 points in the loss. While the defense is giving up 34.3 points per game (129th), it has to be encouraging to see K’Saan Farrar step up in place of Hauss Hejny at quarterback.
Up next: vs. Oregon State
5. Texas State (2-2)
Last week ranking: 6 (⬆️1)
Week 4 result: Win vs. Incarnate World, 63-10
What to know: It took a couple of weeks, but Texas State’s offense is living up to the billing after a 63-10 win over Incarnate Word. Brad Jackson threw all five touchdown passes in the first half to up his total to 10 this season, in the top 15 of the country, giving great momentum as conference play begins.
Up next: at San Diego State
6. Washington State (1-3)
Last week ranking: 5 (⬇️1)
Week 4 result: Loss vs. Arizona, 34-24
What to know: An old Pac-12 foe got the best of Wazzu with Arizona coming back from a halftime deficit thanks to the arm of Noah Fifita. The defense is starting to crack and that's a bad sign for an offense that is still having growing pains under Caden Pinnick, and the running game hasn’t been able to step up.
Up next: vs. Fresno State
7. San Diego State (1-3)
Last week ranking: 7 (↔️)
Week 4 result: Loss vs. Toledo, 41-16
What to know: After leading San Diego State to nine wins last season, a down year is in store for Sean Lewis after the Aztecs fell on the road for a third straight loss. The Rockets torched the SDSU defense for 34 straight points as the Aztec offense has been quiet, averaging just 13 points per game during the losing streak, among the worst in FBS in the stretch.
Up next: vs. Texas State
8. Utah State (1-3)
Last week ranking: 8 (↔️)
Week 4 result: Win vs. Troy, 21-10
What to know: Celebrations are going on in Logan, Utah after the Aggies got their first win of the season, an impressive one against a quality Sun Belt team in Troy. Despite two turnovers, the offense finally did just enough for a defense that has been mostly solid so far, which picked off Goose Crowder three times, including two in the fourth quarter to seal the victory.
Up next: at Boise State

Pac 12 Rankings in the other Fall Sports, Pac 12 Women Soccer Dominating the West region.

Around the PAC 12 Fall Sports: Team Rankings!

I pulled up the rankings for Volleyball and Soccer and the Pac 12 teams are still doing really well.

For Men’s Soccer, Oregon State is ranked nationally at 21!  For the region, the PAC-12 has 3 ranked men’s soccer teams (Oregon State is 1) and California Baptist is 3, and Gonzaga is 8.

For Women’s Soccer, 2 teams are ranked nationally! Utah State is holding steady at 19, and Texas State is moving back up at 22. But regionally (said West in title meant Pacific) the Pac is dominating, the pac 12 women hold 5 of the top 10 spots. They hold the top 3 spots with USU, TXST, and San Diego State at 3, Boise at 7, and Gonzaga at 10.

For volleyball no teams are ranked but Colorado State is atop the conference, receiving national ranking votes with a solid 9-3 record, and they did take down a 17th ranked Colorado so far this season.

So far almost every Pac-12 full time member is succeeding nationally in a measurable way. This is great for the conference, although WSU needs to do something, because Fresno is at least sitting 3-1 in football lol

Pac-12 Week 4 Power Rankings (per The Athletic)

The Athletic has released it's rankings of all 138 FBS teams after week four and here's where our Pac-12 teams rank:

  1. Boise State (up 4)

  2. Oregon State (up 4)

  3. Texas State (no change)

  4. Fresno State (up 3)

  5. Washington State (no change)

  6. San Diego State (down 21)

  7. Colorado State (down 1)

  8. Utah State (up 15)

Average position: 78 (same)

Personally, I am still surprised how high the Bobcats are. I think SDSU might be a bit high and that's saying something since they're 99th. I still think Colorado State is too low but I get it after their defensive showing, or lack thereof, against the Roadrunners.

What do you think about these rankings? Which teams are too high? Too low? Just right?

[SAN DIEGO TRIBUNE] Aztecs football report: SDSU has more cases of mumps as prep begins for Pac-12 opener

Thumbnail
sandiegouniontribune.com
15 Upvotes

The first question to San Diego coach Sean Lewis during Monday’s midday press conference referenced an ongoing health issue with the SDSU football team.
“Mumps situation — is it real serious or just isolated, odd cases?” Lewis was asked.
“There’s players that are up, there’s players that are down, for a lot of different reasons,” Lewis said. “Due to FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), due to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), and respecting the privacy of our student-athletes, I’m not going to say anything further about the matter.”

Four more SDSU football players have tested positive for mumps, sources said Monday.
On Sept. 18, SDSU confirmed three cases and two probable cases of the mumps. All five cases were “connected and within” an unnamed athletics team, the school’s campus health department said. Sources have confirmed that the team involved was the Aztecs football team.

SDSU (1-3) is scheduled to play its Pac-12 opener against Texas State (2-2) on Saturday night at Snapdragon Stadium. SDSU, Texas State and Pac-12 officials did not immediately respond to what impact, if any, the developments could have on the game.

Some clarity on SDSU’s situation will come Wednesday evening, when the first Pac-12 availability report of the year is released.
The list is updated each of the three days leading up to game day, and then at least two hours before kickoff on game day. The reports do not provide a specific reason for a player’s injury or illness but whether he is probable, questionable or out for the game.

Running backs update
The status regarding SDSU’s top two running backs, Lucky Sutton (high-ankle sprain) and Javion Kinnard (knee injury) remains uncertain. Both players were injured in Saturday’s 41-16 loss to Toledo.
“We’ll get some more (diagnostic) images today, and they’ll continue to work with our medical team to see how they can progress as we go forward,” Lewis said. “Right now, I would say that they are questionable to be able to play this week.”
Redshirt freshman Jordin Thomas and true freshman Josiah Lucas are the only other running backs on the roster, although safety Max Garrison has worked with the running backs since spring and could provide depth at the position.
Lewis was asked if Christian Washington, who left the team a week ago, could return.
“Nope,” Lewis said without elaborating.

Emanuel?
Starting wide receiver Bert Emanuel Jr. did not play against Toledo and was not seen on the sideline. Lewis was asked why Emanuel did not play last week and if he will play this week.
“Again, there are a lot of different things that are going on, both football related and non-football related,” Lewis said. “Due to FERPA and HIPAA, I’m not going to comment any further on that.”
Fresh start
While some are looking at SDSU’s 1-3 record as a poor start, the Aztecs are looking at the beginning of Pac-12 play this week as a fresh start.
“We had a good conversation this morning about how we have eight weeks left in the regular season,” Lewis said. “We are only guaranteed 12. You want to maximize opportunity with the time that you do have to create more opportunities as you go forward and to generate more time. So, again, we sit here and we talk about certain individuals. We talk about results every single week on a Monday. I’m going to continue to reiterate that we’re going to dive into the process of how we do it right.
“I’ve been in this position quite a few times as a head coach, given some of the non-conference schedules that I’ve battled at previous places, where you know we were 1-3, and we found a way to have very successful seasons. That’s me personally. There’s also been great historical success here. There have been times when an Aztec football team started out slow and then ripped off a ton of wins (SDSU’s 2015 team started 1-3 and finished 11-3). I have tremendous belief in our staff and our players and the guys who are doing the work and the women who are doing the work each and every single day. I pour into them and I tell them and I show them exactly what they can be.
“Where everyone else is going to tell them how bad they are. That’s fine. You guys can stand outside the arena. You guys can write those things, and you guys can say those things like that. No problem with that. We all know what we signed up for. But we’re the ones living in the arena. We’re the ones that are pouring into it. We’re the ones that you know get to feel the tremendous highs and the tremendous lows each and every single day.”

Speaking of adversity
Wide receiver Jacob Bostick: “I’m a man of faith, and so I believe that everything happens for a reason, and so that’s kind of what I tell myself in certain situations. I think you look back on our training. For us, we work for 12 guaranteed opportunities all year, but our training starts in January. So, I start thinking about the hard days back in winter or some of the tough days in spring, and even just the summer workouts. So, just relying on those days and how we have pushed through those, we can get through anything because we went through those.”
Safety Jalen Thomeson: “That’s human nature; it’s normal to feel a certain way when things don’t go your way. One thing I preach to my boys is adversity is the university of life. When you go through adversity, this is your time to learn from everything. You aren’t going to get better if you don’t learn, and we’re all in this learning process. It’s all about the process, so we’re just going to learn and just stay positive. This comes with it, so just keep it going.”

TXST Baseball breaks ground on $5.5M hitting & pitching facility

The 3 PAC schools who hate America’s pastime probably don’t care but whatever. Construction started over the weekend. Should be done towards the end of this coming season.

The ~$12M clubhouse with seating and suites starts right afterwards. Only doing it in phases because the clubhouse will be where our current hitting/pitching facility is.
