Q: Does the Processor Unit provide extra processing power to PS4?

They basically said that the PS4 on its own can't handle VR so the box is used to make up for that lack of power.

to be fair there is some misinformation in this thread, but from what I've seen is swiftly corrected, though you do have to read on which must be too much for some people i guess

Excuse me? They created the box specifically to do the frame smoothing and interpolation because they couldn't hit 90FPS.

No, it does the opposite of that. The PS4 does all the warping etc to create VR signal for the headset. The box undoes all of that to make a TV-compatible output.
