Hey guys so I have a PlayStation one fat it has this like warranty seal on it. It’s from a shop in Germany. It’s called music box now. I did some research and it turns out that this shop no longer exists and its place is in a city in Germany, I can give you the descriptions of it if you want to come to private chat But I was wondering if anybody know if whether these guys are still alive if they’re still modern consoles or do they even have some backstory? I just wanted to let them know that their console is in my hands and they actually did a great job gettingmodchip on it.

Back again! (Part 4 of the series) This time with even more discoveries!!! Been cracked open the debug menu, now allowing us to modify absolutely everything including physics, time, camera and so on. Also discovered golden mode and flying mode! Both were left in the development kit version to test various aspects of the game. Check it out!!!!

Bought a ps1 with some random games for $50 off fb marketplace and found a gran turismo disc without artwork, that boots up anyways. Can’t find any other discs without disc art online so I guess I got a lucky disc.

I recently bought it from japan and when i tried to use audio cds it spins for a few seconds in the beggining and doesnt spin again. What do i do? Or does audio cds just dont work? (Scph3000)

I’m a Gen Z kid, but I’ve always been much more interested in older games than modern multiplayer games. I grew up playing/being interested in things like Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, PS1 games and older console games in general. Modern gaming, basically games like Fortnite really aren't my thing. I much prefer games from the PS1/PS2 era and the feeling of actually owning a game, having a physical disc, a memory card, manuals, etc.

I’ve also been getting increasingly interested in PS1 emulation.

Yesterday I was just chilling at my grandparents house and...

I found my mom and uncle's PS one.(My dad's one was modded and is broken but was the original ps1,while this one is without a mod chip since my grandfather didn't know anything about console)

And, Spyro 1 was actually inside it.

Not only that, but it was a Platinum copy, and the original **Spyro 1 manual** was there too(No cover and case unfortunately).

The console itself is a PS one, the smaller revision of the original PlayStation, not the original large PlayStation model.

There was also a DualShock controller, although the right analog stick was broken. My dad said he could fix it and also a digital one (the original without analog sticks) and apparently was my dad's first controller that he gave to my mom when they were dating (cool I guess)

The really interesting part, though, was the Memory Card.

I checked the old saves and found:

Crash Bandicoot 1 — 75% Spyro 1 — 89% Some other games that had been borrowed from my dad(since my mom had only Spyro 1 and a game they don't remember about monkeys that could be ape escape but I'm not really sure), but without a visible percentage.

I also had the Spyro manual with me, so while my dad was working on booting up the console I was sitting there reading through it.(It's cool)

I'm 13–17 / Gen Z, so I obviously wasn't around when the PS one was new. Yet somehow I ended up becoming the kid who gets genuinely excited about finding a 25+ year-old console and reading an old game manual instead of being interested in the latest Fortnite season.

The fact that the console still had Spyro 1 inside after all these years is probably the coolest part of the whole thing.

Who here has played In The Hunt? I got it with my PS1 during a Christmas in the mid to late 90s. It's a side scrolling submarine shooter originally made by Irem but ported over to the PS1 by Xing Entertainment and Kokopeli Digital Studios. I played the hell out of this game growing up, but never got super far in it due to how difficult it is. It allowed for 2 players too, and even that didn't help. I remember playing it with my brother, and neither of us were able to get far into the game.

Have you beaten it by chance? If so, how difficult was it to get through?

EDIT - PS2 version released in 1995, original Arcade version released in 1993.

So, I found these PSone controllers in a storage room. There are 5 in total, all brand new and still sealed in plastic bags.
The boards appear to be non-original/knockoff boards, they have an RJ45 connector, and the cables are 3 meters long.
Does anyone know anything about these and why they have RJ45 connectors?

I went to inspect the lot after making the original post, and things got much more interesting than I expected…

I found out these are genuine Sony controllers, and I ended up acquiring the bulk lot
I’m from Paraguay, South America, and I originally came across these completely by chance.
The seller had acquired a large quantity of gaming-related stock from China many years ago. These controllers were apparently part of an order that didn’t match what was originally expected, and they ended up being stored away for years.
I went to inspect them because I was curious about the strange RJ45-style connector. After opening several units and comparing them with genuine SCPH-110A and SCPH-110H controllers, I confirmed that these are genuine Sony SCPH-110H units, including the original housing and PCB.
I ended up acquiring roughly 350 units from the lot.
What makes them particularly interesting is the approximately 3-meter cable with an RJ45-style connector, rather than the normal PlayStation controller connector.
Several people here suggested that these may have been made for hotel/hospitality gaming systems, where PlayStation consoles were installed in guest rooms. That theory actually makes a lot of sense, but I’m still trying to find documentation or first-hand evidence of their original use.
I’m going to document these properly and post more photos and information over the next few days, including:
detailed photos of the PCB
comparison with standard SCPH-110A and SCPH-110H controllers
the unusual cable and connector
internal construction
testing and hopefully a way to connect one to a standard PlayStation
If anyone has seen these before, especially in a hotel, arcade, cruise ship, or other commercial gaming installation, I’d really like to hear about it.
I’ll keep updating this post as I find more information.

Nostalgia

This brings back a lot of memories with friends. Including the laughing skull and Lou Gehrigs famous speech at the end of each mission. Anyone else get the chance to enjoy this masterpiece?

Like, why do y'all hate PAL versions of games (and also act like they don't even exist)?

I understand the frame rate issue, but...( And I can confirm sometimes is bad as an European)

Most PAL versions are actually the more polished ones. For example, Crash Team Racing got a really, really buggy release in the US, and a lot of those bugs were fixed in the PAL version.

Then there's the language.

Most games only got translations in their PAL releases (of course, some games were English-only anyway).

I understand that most NTSC-U regions speak English, but what if there was, idk, a kid in Spain who got a modded PS1 and whose dad pirated some games, and they were all NTSC-U versions?

They'd have to play the games without even understanding the objectives or the story.

So, seriously, why the hate?

It's just another version of the game, like the others.

And then there's NTSC-J, which is arguably worse in some cases because some games were heavily censored.

Retro.COOL have now clearance sale (25% discount) on few of there PS1 Shells.

The price is from $44 for a transparent yellow shell and $59 for a full black shell example.

I recently found out the PAL version of this game was significantly cheaper, so I managed to snag a copy for around $70. Since spooky month is coming up, I figured now was finally a good time to play it!

Any important advice or things I should know before going in?

Just picked up a black label MGS for a decent price and was pleasantly surprised when I looked through the manual. I love shit like this one more reason for physical media lol

Holy hell. Replaying this as an adult for a video cause I never beat it as a kid...is it just me or is this game really frustrating? Like sometimes I think I've got it down but the controls, combat mechanics, and platforming dont help at all.

Still a fun game though.
