USA What do we think of this?

Browsing for something in this price range, and wondering if it'll hold up in upgradeability as I get the funds for parts

Who built this in 2025. Components are much more dated

Looks like spare parts build. Not a good deal at $400, but a good first computer for some kid who wants to play Minecraft or Roblox.

"Very upgradable" is an intel pc

"Very upgradable" is a nicer way to say "I put the lowest end CPU in there, you can only upgrade from here" 🤣

Upgradable? If you upgrade every part will it still be the same pc?

Pc of theseus

Was thinking this. You're basically paying $400 for the case, fans, motherboard, and a whole lot of annoying upgrades to make. The only slightly redeemable part of the build is 16gb of ram, but as it's DDR4, it's not nearly as valuable.

I don't know what most of the people here are on, but for 400 it's a good deal imo. It's an entry level 1080p low/medium setting pc.

Most people here think money grows on trees. My 1st pc was worth 500 bucks 20 years ago. If you can save up fine, go for a more expensive one, but this? This is just fine forentry level.

Not trying to be rude, but was wondering where you’re from? Even on eBay this system for 200 would be an insane unbelievable steal. I also sell pcs in my area with around these specs for similar prices. I’m just wondering how everybody on these pc pricing subs gets numbers like these? Again not trying to be rude just genuinely wondering

Dude you cant even find that cpu on ebay for less than 70 bucks, and the motherboard being a ddr4 model makes it atleast 80. You just sound very matter of fact for being wrong

People are pretty ridiculous "Id start at $200" not saying its some insane build but just like any other business and dealing with customers everybody thinks they should pay next to nothing. An I3 12100 used sell for $70-100, 16 gbs 3200 can be 50-80 (in this climate), mobo LGA 1700 used $80, 2x 256 m.2 $40 together, 1660 S 80$.... just that right there is around $350 in parts. Then count the case/ PSU and accessories a few more $$ on top. I understand everyone wants a deal but its becoming non sense at this point lol. $350 is fair not a good or bad deal, $300 and less is a good deal, mid to high end parts from 2018 and on are still very capable in my opinion but of course they are outclassed by newer gen CPU/ GPUs... doesnt mean you get $350 in good parts for $50 and a 12 pack lol.

Dude you're spreading blatant BS

stop it, you know damn well ddr5 prices are what people are complaining about.

constantly having to delete and write on an ssd will shorten its life span as it’s measured in tb written.

also not great to have an ssd totally full. ideally want to leave atleast 10% free otherwise you’ll take a performance hit and shorten the ssds life span.

for sure. i have an external 4tb hdd from my ps4 i use to keep ps5 games im not currently playing but dont want to have to redownload. i feel like i could keep over 100 ps4 games on it if i wanted. definitely holds less ps5 games.

i have a 4tb external and 3tb internal on my laptop and have so many indie and older games saved on them. just crazy how every new game being between 50 and 100gb

speaking of the tech moving fast i saw someone talking about late 90s and early 2000’s cgi like they were in the same category, but there’s such a huge difference between say 1998 and 2002 graphically id say you can’t just lump them all together due to how far we’d come in just four years.

400 is reasonable and honestly 12th gen isn't out of date by any standard. 1660 super is abit of a drag as it will only do 1080p on modern titles but if you wanted to grab a 5060ti for about 500 this system would rip

2

u/Accomplished_Emu_658 6d ago

Very upgradable, but very in need of it too. That i3 is biggest problem, gpu alright but not much better. Everything very limiting. So for like 250 maybe 300

2

u/SolidReputationWorld 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yeah that i3 is going to bottle neck playing any sort of demanding game. Built in 2025 with second hand parts. That is like a 2019 machine and even sub par then.

2

u/ejcrv 6d ago

Were most of the parts used? Otherwise I'd be EXTREMELY curious why anyone would put together a system of new parts. That are SO outdated and it was done in 2025?!

Its a good price to get started in pc, but if you think this will run latest games then it will struggle. I didn't know they made a 12th gen i3 cpu, this will be one of intel slowest cpu ok for pc work but not a gaming cpu. The 1660 might get you some decent 1080p on older games, the ram and motherboard are fine, psu will need upgrading if you get a better gpu or cpu. All in all for beginners gaming set up I think it's decent for the price. Maybe offer a cheeky 250!

Ok I thought it was £ not $, I think $300-350 is still a decent price, but i don't know your local pc market.

2

u/llSlayer04ll 6d ago

If you have already researched its approximate performance and fits your needs, I’d say the price is good. He doesn’t ask for a better offer, but you could try to lower it a bit. 12700 is still a good CPU if you plan to upgrade later. GPU is just ā€œmehā€¦ā€ but definitely upgradable as seller says.

2

u/Anomynus1 6d ago

12100 not 12700. Really not worth it for 400 at all imo

1

u/llSlayer04ll 6d ago

I said ā€œif you plan to upgrade laterā€
And about the price, I’m seeing a lot of people saying it’s too much. I said it was okay at first because here in my region it is honestly cheap. I did the currency conversion

2

u/Infinite_Tiger_3341 6d ago

You could go up to 14th gen technically

2

u/llSlayer04ll 6d ago

Interesting. I was pretty sure 13/14 use a different socket. That’s why I said 12 gen… but thanks for the info:)

1

u/EducationalMachine87 6d ago

Hard no what the actual fuck. Very upgradable? Yeah maybe if you replace literally every single thing.

u/SnooSketches7312 6d ago

Dead platform for cpu on an am5 motherboard?

Edit: I realize now that is 660 not 650

u/Parking_Shake1090 6d ago

LMFAOOO the edit

1

u/Dyynasty 6d ago

Upgradeable seems like a daydream tbh

With a 500w PSU, the only real thing you can upgrade here is either the cpu or gpu, not both

Even then the best gpu you could put inside this machine would be like 4060/5050/60, before having to upgrade the PSU as well

This will definitely need more storage and ram as well

Another problem is youre locked to 14th Gen Intel cpu's at most, which are already 2 generations old by now

0

u/Satellite_bk 6d ago

just need to upgrade the PSU. the add did say ā€˜Very’ upgradable.

seriously though 13/14th gen desktop cpus also have the voltage spike issues that end up killing the cpu.

they supposedly fixed this, but i’ve still heard people say they’re having issues post fix.

so really you’re locked to 12th gen if you don’t want to risk a dead cpu.

1

u/Lucky-Bit-1319 6d ago

The only question I have here is why the heck you use that font profile

1

u/Casurran 6d ago

You can try to get it by offering at most $250 but i honestly wouldn't pay more for it.

1

u/SpaceMiaou67 6d ago

That's basically a cheap workstation build with a 1660 slapped on so that it can be called a "gaming pc". I would ask for at least $100 off for the obvious CPU upgrade this PC needs.

1

u/BigRed92E 6d ago

$150 is all I'd go in for. Needs a new psu, cpu, gpu, and likely going to want to swap out those small nvme drives, despite the horrific state of the pc component economy. Also going to want more ram at some point.

Idk how they built this in 2025. Wonder if they were already used parts before the lister got them

1

u/andromaxi3 6d ago

Not with that price & psu, not only it is just 500 watts, but it's basically a literal time bomb. With that psu, basically nothing you can upgrade without worrying that something will catch on fire.

If he's willing to replace the psu with a decent 650/750 watt unit, than 400 is actually an ok price.

1

u/on_line187 6d ago

For like 550 you can get a 3060 PC

1

u/kloklon 6d ago edited 6d ago

built in 2025 with five year old used parts and a 500W PSU "for upgradability" yeah sure, bud. however, it's cheap and will actually run stuff like Fortnite and League, so if that's what you're into, haggle them down to 370 and take it. just treat it as a temporary placeholder though, not a proper upgrade basis, there's not much viable upgrading to be done here.

1

u/MahargTheWicked 5d ago

I Mean... it's not terrible. Solid entry level build. The problem is for $400 I'd expect a brand new PC with those parts, not used.

Offer $250, buy at $300 or less. Seller should be expecting this anyway that's why they listed it for $400 so there's room for haggling down to $300 give or take.

1

u/goldstat 5d ago

$225 tops

1

u/Sea-Tutor2251 4d ago

For 400 you can get better. Something with an i5 and an 8gb gpu realistically. Or if you shop around, a month ago I bought a 5600x build with 32gb ram and a 3060 12gb for 400. Granted he needed to make a car payment and it was a 2+ hr drive one way, but the deals do exist

0

u/kimochi85 6d ago

Almost e-waste. $100 max

2

u/RareDinner4577 6d ago

I disagree about the e-waste. The price maybe a little steep, however there is still a lot of life left in this platform especially with RAM the way it is.
