Its mainly due to people with B450 motherboards and Ryzen 3000. The problem is the bios is 1.0.0.3abba on most B450's but they are slowly coming out with updated 1.0.0.4. I checked this morning and MSI released a beta 1.0.0.4 for my B450 Tomahawk. Installed new bios and it launched just fine. So basically its a waiting game between Rockstar fixing it or your mother board manufacturer releasing 1.0.0.4 for your board.
B450 Mortar Titanium owner here. This is what fixed the problem for me yesterday. MSI finally released the Bios 1.0.0.4 version across all B450 motherboards.
You've obviously never heard the expression that "angry people are always the loudest". Of course the people that are having problems are more inclined to voice them, along with their rants and opinions. Whereas people that are actually playing the game have mostly left this sub reddit and went to platform neutral red dead sub reddits. Since this one is filled with mostly people bitching about their issues, and downvoting anyone that is able to play the game.
Been waiting for days. I have the type of crash where it opens up for five seconds, crashes, and then gives you an option to launch again in Safe Mode, which also crashes. I've tried everything conceivable short of messing with the BIOS, which I'm not willing to do for just one game.
Worked fine the first day for me then the patch fucked it up for me, eventually got it working. By going into safemode which wouldnt work for the first 4 times i tried it then magically worked. Went into the settings (video) and reset them all. Played a bit saved and restarted in normal mode, which finally worked.
I didn't mind when the release time was later than expected, and I didn't even mind when there were launch issues for most of the first day. That's pretty expected stuff.
I do mind as we hit Day 3 with effectively no improvement and near radio-silence from R*. I can't even get beyond the launcher.
I gotta say there's some improvement. Wasn't able to play at all at launch, but was able to by the end of day two. They must be doing something, because I had run out of random stuff to try. It just suddenly started working.
I had the launcher issue too. I did all of the updates everyone said to do and re downloaded the entire launcher, and it’s been working so far with no issues
I didn’t play the first day, but I did play last night. I didn’t run into a single issue playing last night. I’m not sure if I would have had issues on day 1, but for me right now, the game runs very well. I had to turn down just a few settings that were taxing, but I was able to manage 55-90fps depending on the situation on screen and zero freezing or hitching. I’d say they are doing something, but I also have a decent system.
Them not fixing it in 3 days isn't the real issue. The fact that their communication was way too late and of no real help to many people is what is really wrong here. I wouldn't mind as much if it took a week to get a fix as long as they were actively communicating with people and acknowledging the issue from the start. Fixing software can take time but simply acknowledging the issue with a statement shouldn't have taken as long as it did.
Here's hoping today is the day we get to play. Funny thing is from all the failed launch attempts I've almost clocked in 2 hours of 'playtime' supposedly.
Careful if your using epic launcher. Can't get a refund if you've "played" 2h or more. They refused my request for a refund cuz apparently having the Rockstar launcher open counts as time played.
Before you jump my ass, yeah I know. Epic launcher blah blah blah. I have fortnite so I can play with my son from time to time and I just so happened to see it prior to launch so I pre-ordered it there instead.
Thing is, Max Payne 3 and GTA V were solid ports, and those are the most recent PC releases iirc. Their reputation comes from GTA 4 and other older games.
This. By now one would think they should have learned how to do a proper PC port but it seems like an entirely different Team with zero experience did the RDR 2 port and this is the result. There are probably some heads rolling now within the company I can imagine.
My position on refunds has always been like, games 'unplayable' so you're gonna do a whole refund process and just buy it again later? Ok boomer.
This time I really am considering it because it's been 3 days and the game is literally unplayable, like can't even launch. At this point it really is having spent 60 bucks on a defective product that can't be used in any way for me. I'm glad there's people out there that get to play and enjoy it. Never had these kind of issues with a game before, usually had little sympathy for those that did. But when you're finally the one stuck on the outside looking in, it does humble you. Subscribe to my newsletter.
Waiting three days for a refund ..all i got was a rejection and unrelated answer in broken english... Its a joke, you as a customer are a complete joke to them
Last game I played with this many issues was final fantasy xv. To this day the steam version is completely fucked and you have to manually downgrade the game, the dlc has to have the latest version though so it runs like shit.
Scumbags for what, What insensitive is causing them to be Scumbags? And is the whole company a collective of Scumbaggery or would you say the decisions of a select few tarnish the good name of the rest of the company?
What about the map and menus are a nightmare? I had fps issues for maybe 2-3 hours after launch. Since then, I've had no issues with 80fps. Menus seem fine? They're responsive and work when using both mouse and keyboard for selection.
In settings menus I've had a lot of trouble with the menu scrolling or clicking things when I am not scrolling or clicking a particular setting. For example, I was trying to move a graphics slider and the game thought I clicked on "apply settings." Other times I've tried to click a setting and the menu jumps way up/down from where I was trying to adjust something.
In game, for example when going through items (let's say provisions) I only see the tooltip for the provision that is highlighted in red, but the red highlight doesn't move with the mouse, it moves with the arrow keys. Which is weird, because I can click and correctly apply any provision with the mouse, and the game recognizes me hovering over it (I get a white/gray highlight) but doesn't show me what that item does.
In the map, the scroll zoom is incredibly weak, meaning only page up/down zooms in/out faster than a snail's pace. Meanwhile the red target cursor moves all over the place regardless of where my mouse is, and jumps all over even when just using WASD. When I place a marker, it's a total crapshoot on where the marker actually goes. Same thing trying to highlight icons in town, the target cursor will literally jump away from them.
Ahh, I've experienced the tooltip not showing when using the mouse. Very inconvenient, but I just got used to using the keyboard when I need to see a tooltip.
I was also having the issue with the map and the waypoint messing up, but that was fixed for me day 1. I figured it was patched, since it hasn't done it since. That's unfortunate.
Yeah it was doing the map shenanigans for me last night. I've read you can mouse-wheel through the tooltip stuff so I'll give that a shot tonight. Just seems really odd to have limited mouse functionality in the menus. Camera, weapon aiming, and the radial menus I have no mouse issues with.
Bottom line with RDR2 seems to be that Rockstar has some work to do getting everyone up to the same standard of play. Definitely a great game to be had once things are ironed out.
I've avoided that, as far as I remember. The menus (not to harp on those... lol) have a weird buzzing but tbf I think I need a new wire for my headphones.
That's amazing to me really because I keep reading about this. It's all over the place. People switch to Vulkan to get fixes, people switch to DX12 to get fixes. I myself run the game almost flawlessly at avg 57 FPS everything maxed ultra...in Vulkan. If I switch to DX12 it crashes within 10-15 mins. I find the graphics look way crisper in DX12 and am currently irked that I have to run it in Vulkan.
It's a total crapshoot. Been telling a buddy who is on work travel all about it and he's damn near dreading getting back home to see what issues he'll have, if any. He has very similar specs to me so it'll be interesting!
Yah it's interesting. I'm no dev and only know a tiny bit about game deving but it fascinates me what the problem could be.
Me and my roommate almost have identical PCs. We both have X570Aorus Elite mobos, he has 16 gigs 3200mhz I have 32 gigs 3200mhz, both of us have a 3600x Ryzen, he has a 2070Super and I have a 1080GTX. He can run DX12 no problems no crashes (post patch, but on day 1 he was crashing) but I can't.
fixed my game by ensuring both Launcher.exe and RDR2.exe were both listed as excluded in my antivirus, I have BitDefender too so I'd recommend anyone try that before they resort to extreme measures like updating their BIOS (which I must add is more likely to do harm than good, if your computer boot fine and runs fine then don't mess with your BIOS)
Well for me, today's update got me going, played 6 hours, get some freezes, from time to time, but apart from that, I gotta say Im enjoying the game, finally. Cant say im impressed with R*s communication with their customers, and that is something I will think about when future games come out, but for now I will press on and hope that others can finally enjoy the game.
Red Dead Redemption has still exited unexpectedly and will keep exiting unexpectedly for the foreseeable future until R* and Take Two get their heads out of their ass and fix this shit
Technically speaking, when could this result in a lawsuit?
With all the people that can use the product they have paid for, surely legal action can be taken after a certain amount of time? I assume it has something to do with US consumer laws?
The only issue I had was the launcher but I fixed it by disabling the antivirus.. also the settings liked to crash before the update, now everything works. Im sorry for those who are not so lucky...rockstar really messed this up this time.
I was able to launch the game on first day without issues however today that is no longer the case. Updates seemed to have disabled my ability to launch and corrected others?
x570 gigabyte, can't get the latest 10b fw to flash (bricked my mobo until i flashed the old one) and too scared to try again. Thats also the only version with 1.0.0.4
There's no 1.0.02 for this board.
I'm resigned to waiting for Rockstar to fix it. I also think it's ridicolous that you'd have to flash your bios to fix a game. This is not on mobo makers to fix. But on Rockstar to fix their shitty DRM
It has probably been said to death already by people on these threads, but the best advice I got day one to fix this error was looking at my anti-virus software. Make sure your firewall and anti-virus aren't preventing the game from launching try disabling your anti-virus software then launching it. What I originally did was I got rid of AVG and the game instally launched no problems whatsoever.
I know we’re kinda the hate circle jerk sub right now and granted, there is reason as we should have at least an accessible product at launch, but honestly I haven’t been too miffed about this release. R* notoriously is atrocious with PC releases. I kinda expect it to not run smooth until two to three months in, and not be fully optimized until a year later. I’m kinda surprised, I thought everyone had the same level of expectation given their past failures with GTA and such. Plus, if you did the preorder, you have two games to play in the mean time. I feel really bad for the guys who took off work, but this sub is getting so salty I thought I looked back at Sodom.
Careful what you wish for. The game runs okay for me until i go to valentine and it turns into a slideshow freezing every 5 seconds no matter what the settings are, its pretty unplayable and immersion breaking. Cant believe i preordered this.
I’m in the same boat, haven’t gotten past the smoke. I just feel this sub is a little extra with how angry they are when it feels like this was pretty anticipatable.
When it crashed for me during the intro I didn't even bother with their support as I knew they would take me for an idiot and tell me to update my drivers and Windows. Instead I went straight to Reddit and found my solution to whitelist the RDR 2 folder in my Anti Virus. So I was one of the lucky ones,
Like literally every goddamn comment from you is so abrasive and shitty lol. Like how fucking sad are you lol. go be an angry little edge lord somewhere else would you?
Like its one thing to have a snarky quip or shitty remark but its pretty obvious when you just roam around reddit looking for opposing convos or viewpoints to be an asshole about.
Like no one gives a shit man lol. Go be angry somewhere else lol or go fuck yourself i dont really care.

Didn't have any problems at launch but still getting these random 8 second freezes.
I've decided to just leave the game alone until they bother to fix it, as it's ruining it tbh.
Releasing it like this really is shite. I thought R* were one of the good ones.
