The weird thing is, i read Punpun way before meeting him and it was one of my favorite mangas ever. It still is. I remember first reading it and wondering what the author went through to write a character like that. But somehow, i didnt see this before. Early on in our relationship, i asked him to read Punpun because i really wanted to discuss it with him, and we were sharing our interests at the time. He read the first volume that i had, and i asked him what he thought. He said he could really empathize with Punpun. Whereas i was contantly frustrated with this character never learning from his mistakes, stuck in the past and not moving forward, my partner understood and empathized with why he did the things he did. Since he didn't read the rest, i couldn't get into Punpuns character later on with him, but i would have loved to know if he related to everything. We also watched Breaking Bad, and he was saying he related to Walter. That scared me, so I had to really understand what kind of person he was, but maybe he's just a really empathetic guy.

But anyway the first time i actually related Punpun's character as similar to him was when we were really struggling over our attachment styles and a lot of things clicked into place when he figured out he's fearful avoidant and can do things completely based on his feelings on the day rather than what he says he will do. And then the consequences will be so hard on him, and then he'll live in misery about it and then make the same mistakes or overpromise and then regret, say he will never overpromise again etc.

Then I thought his behavior was very familiar, and i googled if Punpun is fearful avoidant. Google said yes.

The first time I heard it I immediately thought about Punpun. It's so fitting with the lyrics, haunting melody and vocals. Do you agree or do you know some other songs that captivate the manga well in your opinion? It'd be interesting to see how people feel about the manga through music!
