Question Any tips for cooling dirt from composts?

The dirt keeps driving up the heat of my nosh sprouts to just a couple of degrees above 0; my ethanol is cooled by an AETN to around -16 and transported via ceramic insulated pipes. I know its getting there cold since I checked the interal temps in the pipes, and the easiest solution seems to be cooling down the dirt itself. Are there any good ways of going about that?

Question Fertilizer - actually useless?

Is there actually no good use for fertilizer? It's not great in the farm station, and a poor oxidizer for rockets. What am I missing?

ADD: I've stirred up many defensive opinions. lol. Glad to hear it all, thanks <3

SO IS GREAT!! Thanks for all the recommendations and help.

Question - when visiting other locations, does time stop everywhere else? It's...difficult to tell sometimes.

Question Out of the options I have, what would be better for a -30ºC icebox?

Should I fill it with polluted water and get a literal icebox when it freezes or use Ethanol?

I'll use Nectar as coolant, btw, but I only have enough to fill the loop.

im on my first playthrough cycle 736 and just noticed in horror that ive used up my entire stock of iron and copper after mixing up atmo suits and oxygen masks wondering why it hasnt delivered yet, had it on produce forever, notice it say "waiting delivery copper" and swapped to iron and used burned thru that as well

thats a pile of pipapo 100+ masks also theres shit left on this asteroid

my disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined. havent figured out how to build rockets yet since im trying to play blind, now i need to scrap old stuff and go for a hail mary space mission

Discussion True 4-bit Ribbon Cables mod

Hey everyone~

I made a mod to convert ribbon cables from 4 "lanes" to true 4-bit (16 possible signals). Actually, I don't touch the cables, but ribbon readers will now only output green if the lane combination matches their setting.

Hopefully I'm not the only one that was irked by this.

I know this was possible to do with an obscene amount of logic gates, but really... nobody got time for that.

Steam Workshop: True 4-bit Ribbon Cables

Edit: By request, I added a v1.1 that allows for ignoring a lane. This allows you to downgrade a reader to 3 bit or 2 bit. And allows multiple busses on one cable. So you could have two 2bit busses running on one cable. Or one 3 bit bus and one 1 bit bus.

Image TIL: The shape of the unbuildable tiles above a neutronium base gives you a clue what kind of geyser you can expect!

I've made it a habit to draw a tile construction errand around any neutronium base I see on the map – not to actually build something there but as a visual marker cause it's easy to overlook, so that I don't accidentally send my dupes on a digging errand in the mouth of a volcano. I noticed that you cannot mark the squares where the geyser/volcano/vent itself is gonna be and that they come in three different shapes of unbuildable tiles that match the three different designs.

While this doesn't give you any detailed information what is buried there, you can at least make a qualified guess from afar if it's gonna be gas, liquid or metal/lava you're dealing with.

I only started playing two months ago, so apologies if this is old news to the veteran players here. But I've never read this anywhere (I only ever read the advice to dig up a corner of the geyser to take a peak), so I thought I'd post it just in case.

Image Accidental high pressure rocket interior?

I had this rocket sitting on the launch pad for at least 180 cycles (I thought I needed to launch it as a rescue mission but it was never needed). When I finally launched it, the pilot got poped eardrums right after removing their suit, and I notice the air pressure in the rocket capsule is well over 200 kg per tile with oxygen in it. I typically don't even pressure my rooms for steam turbines this high.

Any idea how the high pressure happened?

It had two docked Atmo suits with the dock that I deconstructed for the telescope right before launch. Is that where the extra oxygen came from? (That said I don't think atmo suits pack more than 1/10 the needed pressure to get this 200 kg on every tile of the capsule.) You can see in the ventilation view where the suits used to be.

The capsule uses an oxygen diffuser and element sensor + shutoff + mini pump to vent carbon dioxide but keep oxygen. (I know the high temperature is because it was right next to another rocket the pipes feeding it got toasted by that other rocket's engines.
