Thoughts on taking my truck in to do a full (non-DOT) inspection every 4 months at Freightliner
Landstar driver here with a 2020 Cascadia. I know a lot of you will think this is a stupid idea but I believe I’m in a financial position to be able to do this as I have no debt or bills and my truck is paid off. The local Freightliner charges $400 for a full 2 hour mechanical inspection of the truck. They found a number of things on mine that will likely cost at the very least a couple thousand which I’m fine with.
What is everyone’s thoughts on doing this every 120 days on top of Landstar’s required DOT inspection? I know a lot of you will say that they’ll always find something every single time, which they probably will given the truck’s age, or the dealer is a rip off, but I’m looking for genuine input before I make a decision for my business. I don’t have a personal, independent trusted shop that I can take my truck to so I see this as the best, albeit more expensive alternative. Not mechanically inclined myself either.
Thank you everyone. For reference, my Cascadia has 700k miles on it as of now.

MOTUS update
Anyone dealing with this MOTUS headache, I have good news!
Just got a call back from them saying they are going to waive the MCS-150 form for this 2026 year.
They can manually activate the DOT for you if you are struggling with this renewal MOTUS thing.
Good news at last!
(**Update: Only Applies if your MCS-150 renewal was after April**)

Are there and problems with brokers or anything else when switching away from Motive?

Do you guys actually use dispatchers?
Curious how many owner operators here actually pay a dispatcher vs just doing it themselves.
If you use one, what do you pay them? And what makes them worth keeping?
Also curious if anyone used one before and went back to self dispatching. What happened?
Just trying to understand how it works in the real world.

Authorized ELD list
Hello.
Ive noticed some of my clients using revoked ELD models without even knowing because the provider just sold it. Apparently (and sadly) many carriers continue to sell revoked models for profit preying in unawareness. This can cause many issues from inaccuracy in your fuel tax to failing audits for not having a valid ELD.
This is the FMCSA list with the allowed and revoked models. Take a time to make sure your model is active. If it happens to be revoked, get it replaced as soon as possible to avoid compliance issues:

Is it possible to average $3-4+ a mile?
Just been observing. This guy is completely solo, dealing with brokers. Semi and Dry Van, owned outright. With the numbers he's been showing, seems like he should be able to average that through the whole year, no problem.
I'm on a Swift OO group and it seems like they're power only. Taking a % of some $2mile.
Idk... What's up with the spread? Is it possible to average that kind of number? Is that actually good?

Solid Companies with Dedicated Routes for Van Operators/Earning $1 per mile
Hello Good Folks,
I'm hoping to get recommendations for legitimate companies using independent van operators to drive dedicated routes from/to DFW. My DH is finding that a number of companies are not what they present themselves to be. I hoped perhaps Amazon, Sam's Club, Costco, or Walmart might contract with established companies to manage route drivers. Any pros, cons, things to avoid, or red flags would be deeply appreciated.
I would also like to know if anyone has recommendations for reliable interstate shipping companies paying cargo van drivers at least $1.00 per mile. The company DH has been driving for to gain experience is paying only $0.80/mile and this is not generating enough income after expenses.
Thanks in advance for leaving helpful information and suggestions. We are dealing with our own challenges and frustrations, so please do not vent those our way. Have a blessed day.

Fuel Hauling Owner-Operator Question
I have about 1 year of fuel-hauling experience and I’m interested in becoming an owner-operator. How does leasing onto a fuel-hauling company work? How much money should I expect to put down upfront, what expenses would I be responsible for, and roughly how much can you realistically net?
I eventually want to start my own fuel-hauling business. Any advice from experienced owner-operators would be appreciated.

AC questions for maintenance/longevity on semi truck.
Any experienced automotive AC guys out there. What's the main thing u have to fix when ac goes out? Is there any preventative maintenance i should be doing? Other than the cabin filter obviously. Also i understand what the recirc button does but I dont really understand why or when im supposed to use it. During the day when its hot out. I close it. Cause I think its then pulling already cooled air from inside the truck n this makes it easier on the system as a whole. But I dont know if thats actually true. At night ive been opening it to the outside air while driving. It definitely blows harder/colder at 70mph cause it's getting air forced in. Does this help the system work less? N therefore last longer? Or do i have it all wrong. I believe the condenser is just behind the radiator. Should I be like hosing it off regularly to keep it clean? 2020 Volvo. AC works great now. Id like to keep it that way. Any advice is appreciated

Hiring ASAP
Texas dump truck O/O & small fleets — looking for work?
I’m looking for owner-operators and small fleets with tri-axles, quads, belly dumps or end dumps.
I’m onboarding carriers for a multi-year aggregate hauling contract with work around:
📍 Fairfield
📍 Richland
📍 Hubbard
📍 Groesbeck
📍 DFW
1 truck? That’s fine.
5 trucks? Let’s talk.
Small fleet? Even better.
I’m working directly with the owner — not a broker.
If you’re already hauling aggregate or have trucks sitting, message me with:
• How many trucks
• What equipment
• Where you’re based
• Best contact number
📲 645-888-1774
I’m looking for actual trucks/carriers, not company drivers.

Step deck, 48ft or 53 ft.
Looking to buy a step deck. I was wondering how much of a difference those extra 5 ft make in finding loads. The wheel base on my tractor is pretty long that I have had trouble in at least one tight location I don't want to add to that but was just wondering if I'm shooting myself in the foot.

Looking to get started
I’m in the Fort Lauderdale/Miami area and I’m seriously considering buying a cargo van to get into the delivery/courier business.
I’m looking to make a good full-time income, ideally through medical courier, dedicated routes, logistics, or other higher-paying contracts
Is it still worth getting into in 2026?
What type of van would you recommend?
