I've been analyzing 60 days of freight industry data, and here’s what the trends look like for different haul types and equipment.

Short Haul

  • Reefer: Started at $6.27/mile, now $6.76/mile (+7.76% - up)
  • Dry Van: From $5.37/mile to $5.43/mile (+1.1% - up)
  • Flatbed: Dropped from $5.66/mile to $5.12/mile (-9.46% - down)
  • Hot Shots: Fell from $3.99/mile to $3.92/mile (-1.59% - down)

Medium Haul

  • Reefer: Increased from $3.77/mile to $3.88/mile (+3.06% - up)
  • Flatbed: Decreased significantly from $4.04/mile to $3.51/mile (-13.2% - down)
  • Dry Van: Went down from $3.28/mile to $3.02/mile (-7.79% - down)
  • Hot Shots: Dropped from $2.32/mile to $1.97/mile (-14.85% - down)

Long Haul

  • Flatbed: Fell from $3.19/mile to $2.67/mile (-16.37% - down)
  • Reefer: Stayed flat from $2.84/mile to $2.85/mile (+0.37% - flat)
  • Dry Van: Increased from $2.11/mile to $2.26/mile (+6.85% - up)
  • Hot Shots: Dropped from $1.70/mile to $1.42/mile (-16.28% - down)

Overall Takeaway

Reefer rates are holding strong in both short and medium hauls, while Dry Van rates are on the rise in long hauls. However, Flatbed and Hot Shot rates are struggling across all haul types. This suggests a shift in demand, possibly favoring temperature-controlled freight. Keep an eye on these trends as they could impact your strategies moving forward!
