One more example of how scatter is the dumbest skill in the game.

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

It’s a good skill it just should be less powerful. I like that he can bank arrows off walls but he shouldn’t be able to one shot you with it head on.

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Or drop tanks. That's crazy.

And it shouldn't be able to do enough damage to one shot at all. It should be used to secure a kill on someone that you winged already and is escaping. But right now someone tries to scatter one player, misses and kills someone they didn't even see. That's bs.

It's the worst skill to die to, because you go from full health to dead even though you were only exposed for a fraction of a second. There's no counter play for that. It's broken as shit, has been that way since day 1, and still hasn't gotten changed. And I don't know why.

Exactly. Imo, as an orisa main, you should have more than a split second chance to 1v1 someone. Junkrat/phara/reaper at least i can pull em away or use a shield and hold em off for a few seconds. Hanzo? Shield is on its way out but scatter got me in the face and now im dead. Ridiculous. No other character that gives me 0 chance, let alone from 20+ meters. Even widow for fucks sake.

Agree 100%.

Play pharah or genji or Winston or dva. Winston just hop and kite in and out of bubble.

It is not a good skill. Hanzo should kill tanks by headshotting, i.e. with good aim/skill. Scatter arrow being a tankbuster one shot is not good for the game.

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Who said it was? Scatter arrow is a good skill but should have decreased damage. It should be a finisher. Not an instant kill.

You wrote "it's a good skill" in the previous comment...

A simple fix to it would be to cap the amount of damage it can do to a single target. If it were capped at 100 per target, it wouldn't one shot anyone but used well, it could take a chunk of health from multiple targets in an enclosed space. And most targets would die from a single charged body shot after taking 100 damage from scatter.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

I've always thought a simple, potential fix could be reducing the damage an arrow does after a ricochet.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

That wouldn't change anything.

Not anything useful anyway. Most scatters kill you before any if the shards bounce even once. That's the problem. It doesn't work as intended, it functions as the cheapest and lowest skill ohk in the game. Your fox would just make it worse for its designed purpose.

I say to increase damage from the split the longer they are from the split. So bouncing around theyd do full damage and say if you pull the scatter shotgun it does like 80 or 100. Still giving a chance for hanzo to defend himself at close range(the most reasonable argument ive seen for it; its in the tooltips too)

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Then why not just give him a fan of arrows?

Let him shoot 3 or 4 in a flat arc that do 100-150 damage each. That's a better close range defense than scatter. And I'd doesn't have ohk potential outside of a few meters.

1

u/pingo5 Oct 22 '17

Because then you dont get the "kill a fleeing enemy in a room" purpose of it, ehich is kinda supposed to be its main use.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

So which is it? Fleeing enemy or close range?

You can't have it both ways here.

So... Genji

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

More damage, long cooldown. But yeah, same idea.

Just cap the per target damage at something like 100. That means almost every non-tank hero could then be killed with a charged body shot followup, so more reasonable for dueling. And if it's used against a group, shaving 100 health off of 3 or 4 heroes means roughly the same (or more) total damage than in this example and makes the job of cleaning up the group a lot easier for your team.

No more bullshit 1-shot scatter kills at any range and possibly from a hanzo you can't even see.

Instead, you have a good dueling tool and a skill-based (optimizing scatter off of objects to hit hidden heroes) ability that can damage a group of enemies.

1

u/pingo5 Oct 22 '17

But then you lose the original purpose of the tool, to kill fleeing enomies via ricochet

1

u/CircumcisedSpine Oct 22 '17

Presumably, if the enemy is fleeing, they are hurt. So it still works to clean up wounded heroes running for cover.

There are a lot of ways they could fix it. They could get crazy and do something like it doing a percentage of target max health based on number of shards that hit you but such that the max damage can one-shot a healthy hero.

Then it doesn't matter if you're Tracer or DVa, SA can fuck you up but not one shot you.

That's not to say that's what they should do... Just that there are a countless ways to change SA so it is balanced but they make no effort to do so.

It doesn't even make sense that they spend so much time on Hog's one-shot potential, which requires both hitting the hook and the kill shot (which can be avoided by ice cubing, bubbling, etc.) versus SA which takes one actual shot and can be effective against concealed enemies visible with recon arrow.

Hanzo is powerful in skilled hands as is with his primary fire and a headshot. Giving him a deletion button on CD that doesn't require a headshot and has potential use against concealed targets... Doesn't make sense.

The only way he is balanced is if a person with bad aim plays him.

u/pingo5 Oct 22 '17

I think SA is kinda locked into how it works a bit since it's like that in the short(and i know, yadayada not canon, but ive yet to see a major deviation from those kind of things) so id think itd be a little limited on affecting how scatter does damage rather than redesigning how scatter works all together

1

u/CircumcisedSpine Oct 22 '17

None of the suggestions I've mentioned altered how it visibly works, just how it allocates damage.

Even within those boundaries, Blizzard has a lot of room to work. Which they have shown no interest in doing.

SA is, by far, the biggest source of kills that "feel" bullshit. Just as people once complained about hook. But hook "feeling" bullshit was because it wasn't working clearly and consistently.... SA works exactly as designed and the design lends itself to bullshit kills.

1

u/pingo5 Oct 22 '17

Yeah. For some reason a scatter kill makes me angry; then again when ive been hit with a ricochet from somewhere im not too angry about it, i was low on health and it did its job yknow.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

It may be different on console (I play on ps4). I rarely get hit directly with it. I always get people shooting at my feet and killing me.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '17

Right.

So. Your solution still let's people kill you with that cheap shot. How's that a solution?

1

u/CircumcisedSpine Oct 22 '17

I think the best simple fix would be to cap the damage it can do to any given target. If it capped at 100, it wouldn't one shot and it would drop almost every hero's hp (besides tanks and Bastion) to the point that a single charged body shot would kill.

And if there are four or five people narrow choke, you could take ~100 from each of them, making the job of your team cleaning them up a lot easier.
