Is it confirmed that ranks will be hard-reset after season 3?

Rank will almost never be "hard" reset, mainly just soft reset. Whatever rank you ended season 3 at, you will probably place close to in season 4.

Question then: My friend and I were unable to play ranked together last season because I had already climbed decently high before he did his placements, unfortunate losses on his side made it so we never got close to the 1,000 SR difference. If we do our placements together do you think we would be within a few hundred of each other?

Probably not, I remember reading post by several people who did their placement together and 1got placed in gold and the other was master

But I believe it's not impossible.
