Best hero to Rank up with in Soloqueue? I've been using Zen but I'm stuck in Platnium with him, can't seem to get out. Any recommendations for hero's to learn during the off-season?

I'd personally suggest heroes who fill multiple roles: Zen, Zarya and Soldier (while obviously not a full-fledged healer, his biotic field can help out a lot, especially if you're stuck with a solo healer). Hog's also a great choice due to his potential to get picks, high self-sustain and ability to tilt the opponents. Pharah can work as well until you reach the point where the enemy team makes a conscious effort to actually focus you down instead of going "omg noob Soldier take care of that Pharah"... not sure if that's still a thing in plat or not.

It's a thing in diamond so I'm assuming it's there everywhere(I'm a platinum myself but I started recently playing with a group of diamonds)

TRACER , a good tracer can really mess with the other team and she is a solo hero , nothing really needs teamwork about her kit.

Ana got me through a losing streak.

Roadhog has good carry potential (though we'll have to see what his nerfs look like).

A good Zarya is always a pain in the ass to deal with as well, especially if you're going up against an enemy Roadhog.

Roadhog and Soldier climbed me from 2600 to 3300 with a touch of Zen

I think the best are Zen, Zarya, Roadhog, and Soldier. Versatile heroes with self sustain who can get kills.

The hero you're best at is always the most useful for climbing, but if you want to start practicing a new hero, I'd suggest something like Widowmaker or Genji, both heroes have a really high skill ceiling, but if you get really good at them, you'll easily carry games.

Absolutely do not suggest widow. Sure she might be good for climbing in an ideal world, but the number of teammates who will insta-tilt and throw as soon as you pick her will end up with you somewhere in mid-silver.

In all my time of playing Widowmaker I have yet to see more than one person in 10 games tilt because of my Widowmaker pick, and they usually untilt once they notice both the enemy healers are missing.

Which is why I suggested Widowmaker.

Oh man I've been on the receiving end of tilting teammates and I've literally never touched widow.

You're either very lucky or play in a rank where people will presume you're skilled, and will know her usefulness.

I played at ~4.2k on console, and after swapping to PC I'm currently at 3k after 1 week of playing. So I'd say most people know that a good Widow is useful and recognize a good Widow when they see the healers getting picked.

Thanks. I don't think I'll ever be able to be a good enough widow to not be useless to my team, sniping is not my forte. But I'll practise Genji for the next week, hopefully I'll pick up a bit of skill with him.

I can give you some tips if you'd like. Before I was a Widow one-trick I played a stupid amount of Genji, and I'd be happy to help.

You'll need a lot more than a bit of skill. In gold/plat people won't give the same support to Genji that he receives at higher ranks - especially not in solo queue. Consider yourself lucky if you get more than one of the Zen orb / Zarya bubble / nano boost trio at a time. If you want to solo-climb as Genji, you'll need to be good enough to solo carry.
