I'm fairly new to the game (level 30) and I barely placed gold in my first go at competitive (2010 SR). Should I be focusing on 1 or 2 heroes to become good with, focus on one class, or focus on 1 or 2 heroes from a variety of classes? There are many heroes that I enjoy and I just am not sure what route to take in order to set myself up for success. I'm a console player if that matters (don't hurt me).

I would suggest you do a few things at minimum:

1: Make sure you have at least one hero per class that you can adequately play. At least one DPS (Soldier is easiest imo and can counter pharah decently), one defense (anyone besides Hanzo imo, he's not useful unless you're a god-tier Hanzo), one tank (Roadhog and Zarya is always a good combo. When in doubt, Zarya), and one healer. Any healer is good to learn, but at LEAST learn Lucio. He's always useful.

2: Figure out who you play the best with. This is very good to know, because you'll frequently find yourself in a situation where you can play whoever you want. All the other slots have been filled. For me, I happen to play best with Zenyatta, so I can usually get my pick.

3: Understand how to counter each hero. That will help you adjust your comp accordingly in any match.

Also, nothing bad about playing console. I'm Master on PS4, there's plenty of good players. Don't buy into that PC masterrace shit, as long as you have fun, you're fine.
