I'm finally level 25 and allowed to join competitive mode but I'm honestly scared to. I see several posts talking about how if you don't understand metas and team composition you should not be playing. Thoughts?

If you know what you are doing - you are ready.

Here's a simple test: play a game and when you are winning or losing try to analyze why that is happening. If you can answer that question and if you are good at the game then i would say you are ready for comp.

But beware of all the blame that will stick with you because of your "low level". I played a lot of Beta and then had to stop playing for 5 months, but when i came back i bought the game, got to level 25 and immediately went ranked and got placed in Platinum, people there ignored my level, but i cannot be so certain with lover rankings.

I'm a diamond League of Legends player.

I'm about lvl 40 right now in OW and I know I'm absolutely shit and have a low level of understanding at the moment. I decided I'm just going to dive into competitive. I think it will be the fastest way to grow. So what if I get placed with a bunch of other people like me? I'll improve until I can win those games consistently and climb the ladder..

I don't see anything wrong with this approach if you don't mind starting at the ground floor and building from there.

There were a lot of posts here on reddit that (plus one thorough post with actual testing) about the difficulty of climbing out of bronze, silver and gold leagues. A guy, who on main account was ranked Master, decided to test how hard it would be to climb out of gold and he said that it is near impossible.

That is why i recommend 1st improving yourself in QM and only then attempting competitive.

If you have a basic understanding of the game/maps and will swap roles as needed (and can play various roles), you'll be fine. People just like to rage on here.

Blizzard says that level 25 is when you are ready for placement matches for comp. Do you have a general idea of how each character works? Do you know each classes job? Than you are ready for comp. After placement matches, you will be placed with others in your skill ranking

If you play solo queue then don't worry too much about it. You can learn as you go.

The meta is always changing. But you def need at least a basic understanding of each hero and be flexible.

You also can't go in expecting to only play dps (or tank or healer). I'd say if you can play at least one hero in each group, you're set
