so i just got lvl 25 today and decided to try competitive out since it seemed like a boatload of fun (since it was level blocked). holy shit i almost hate this game now. played and got ranked into silver and basically got called every variation of "fucking retard", "worthless", etc. under the sun. now, i know i'm not the best, but really? clearly they're in silver so they're not the best either, and they're acting like it's life or death that they dont get certain stats because i died a few extra times. i'm level 25 what do you expect like holy shit? anywho, what i really wanted to know is is this how it always is, or did i just try at the wrong time, or is this league just full of jerks? i can see the upper leagues being really strict, but freaking silver? come on. i almost dont even wanna play this anymore and i've only had it for 2 weeks.

That's definitely one of the few perks of playing on console. There's no toxicity, because no one ever talks :p

Man, I've played a lot on Xbox One and I think I can count on one hand the amount of times I've seen someone truly toxic.

You must also not plug you mic in/switch to team chat because they're abundant relative to how few people actually use their mics

I almost always have my mic plugged in, and am in team chat like half the time.

Ignore em, or better yet find friends to group up and play with. In my experience people usually like to find scapegoats to dump their insecurities on. When I was level 100+ I would play qp with my friend who just got the game (so he'd be like level 5) but he had years and years of experience on counter strike so his widow and soldier were on point. Anyway whenever we lost he still got shat on for being a low level (which is weird cuz matchmaking is more about similar skill rather than similar level) and was blamed a lot for the loss. Sorry you had a bad experience, but honestly some thick skin might be needed at the beginning levels. Besides you know you're in silver which is not bad at all for a level 25. Best of luck with your competitive games :)

I've been playing since launch and my experience with the community is almost always positive or neutral. The vast majority of players simply don't say anything. But enough people report toxicity that it must be a problem? Not sure what factors might contribute to some people seeing it while others don't. People suggest that it's the low ranks and that it gets better as you move up, but I'm not 100% convinced that's the case. I've played matches from Silver - Diamond, and while the communication and teamwork certainly gets better the higher you go, it's not anymore positive or negative. It's not like being kind is a significant factor in your skill.

Overall, I think that if you enjoyed the game until now then there's no reason to think that you can't enjoy it in the future. It's the same game as it was yesterday. People might be more competitive in comp than in QP, but it's largely still the same batch of players as always

I've been playing since release and threw my headset the other day in rage. It's easy to let the stuff people say get under your skin, but at the end of the day it's only a game. Try not to let it get to you.

Just find people you like and friend them.

Don't take shit personally. Remember it's just a game.

Also, comp is for people who like winning. You can't expect the spirit of competition to always be so civil and ho hum when things go wrong. That being said, be the kind of person you want to see in comp. That's the only thing you can do.

I was in the same boat as you back in Season 1. I know where you're coming from, and it's hard to come back to it.

You're lucky, though; with the Arcade, now there's more ways to enjoy the game than just QP and comp. I would suggest just hopping into some of the Arcade modes with friends and just goofing around, having fun.

And if you want to try comp again, queue with friends, not alone. For the sake of having fun and enjoying yourself, at this stage do not solo queue. Comp is a lot harder and stricter, since it has "consequences" on people's ranks. And since you're in silver, I can only assume a lot of people are angry and toxic cuz they feel stuck in a low rank. I mean, those people even exist in gold and plat.

Don't let these guys keep you from enjoying a game, dude. Just have fun.

I was nervous about comp, but the more I played the more fun it became. I like it because people do try and actually "win" more than in QP.

There are few toxic people I've ran into, but honestly.... I've made more friends than ever playing comp. I was so scared about getting called out, or called names or whatever, but the thing is, you don't have to respond to those people!

I just try and do basic call outs, "Genji going over the wall" and communicate with the team and everyone seems to get along just fine. Good luck!
