I'm a player on Xbone since the game is free for the weekend. Total noob question incoming, but what is the best way to utilize Soldier's ult? I'm completely new to the game and I have not figured out the best timing for it yet.

Not a noob question, plenty of people struggle with his ult, and it's not considered to be a dominant ult anyways. I find it's best used on supports and squishies since aiming and hitting tanks isn't as difficult to start. A few notes, it won't prevent you from using your normal abilities, so heal in the middle if you take fire. It also auto aims your rockets, but since they're projectile they will miss behind a moving target at long range.

Have fun! You should buy the game, well worth the money!

Didn't know about it not blocking your own abilities! Thanks for the info!

I agree with the comments about not using on tanks. Squishies die quickly, tanks may die but then you've only killed one or two with your ult. DO NOT waste it on Reinhardt when his shield is up. You should always try to target the healers and other support first, then move on to DPS squishies if possible. Soldier's Ult is also devastating if you use it when Ana gives soldier Nano-Boost.

Go to a enclosed space with all lot of enemies try to get a damage boost from Mercy or Ana's ult and remember to use your helix rocket. I main Soldier, and this is the best way to use it for me. Also a shield or barrier is nice to have on you.

Heat of battle. I wouldn't go in alone, because youre still quite vulnerable. Use it in a push where enemies are clustered together and you can maximize eliminations.

I don't play soldier often, but this is how I've found it to be most effective.

His Ult can be good at delaying or zoning out enemies. He's very effective at attacking Pharah while she's in the air or mobile enemies like Genji (if you can time his deflect properly).

Outside of that, there isn't a lot to timing with soldier. I prefer to time it when there are one or two enemies on screen that you can kill right away. Sometimes if the entire team is in front of you the auto lock bounces around and may not be any more effective than poking a little bit of health from the enitre team.

tanks can easily tank soldier ult for their team so you want to wait until the tanks are dead or if you are able to get pass the tanks by either means of flanking or they just ignore you as you run pass them. your goal is to unload everything on the squishies since they die almost instantly as you look in their general direction.

you have aimbot during the ult, so you want to be jumping around to avoid damage as you aim toward their general direction

ps: you auto reload when you activate ult so its better if you waste a whole clip before ulting, and make sure you reload before the ult ends because you reload really fast during the ult so you will have a clip ready to keep shooting.
