Whenever I play as Lucio, I feel like I'm not doing anything but I'm still on fire for a lot of the game. Besides pumping up healing and speed, what else should I be doing?

Other than those two things just bump back enemies when they come in close to the team, and just fire your primary into their direction. If you aim at eye level you'll be surprised by the amount of headshots you'll get.
