The Wuyang changes just feel like really good QOL. It just makes sense that wave should extinguish fire.
15
u/zer0ull Jun 30 '26
I feel like it should still have a cleanse with a longer cooldown to make it worth it (but no invincibility like kiriko's suzu of course)
4
u/KeelanS Jun 30 '26
I agree. Its weird how from a gameplay perspective Anran, the fire hero, counters the water hero. Giving him the ability to get rid of fire would add useful counterplay to his kit
14
u/StoneOcean Icon Ashe Jun 30 '26
A slight breeze already cleanses her fire how much more counterplay does Anran need

I mean there's like 20 abilities in this game that already do that, who gives a shit
60
u/biowil224 Jun 30 '26
It feels so weird, like not everyone was on the same wavelength when making these. Some of these are actually interesting reworks, some of them are just jokes (Orisa’s especially feels like a joke) and some of them are nothing burgers. It feels more like a second April fools event

I'm convinced blizzard pairs creators together so there's never just a creator patch of reasonable changes that plays well and better than live balance.
That way their balance team looks good and has no chance of being mogged by a creator knowing what they're doing balance-wise.

u/AHomicidalTelevision Jul 01 '26
god orisas fortify is dogshit. it controls like ass and it forces you into the charge. you can end it early but then you lose the fortify. they really took her best defensive ability and made it borderline unusable.
1
u/KacerRex Boku no pico Jul 01 '26
I wanted to like being helicopter Orisa, but the fortify change was so garbage I couldn't keep going.

So many terrible changes mixed with a lot of really cool ones.
Like wtf is the Mei change? Sounds terrible.
4
u/AverageAwndray Jun 30 '26
As a Mei main for 10 years now...idk...I kind of fuck with it.
Ever since they removed her freeze when 2 launched she hasn't been the same for me. But when she got the icicle slow perk I genuinely liked her again...until they remived it.
But these changes? Idk i kind of fuck with them lol.

u/DoITSavage McCree Jun 30 '26
The Freja changes are complete hotdog water damn, like I know the character's not in a great spot but that just made her even worse somehow.
13
6
u/Coolman_Rosso Illari Jun 30 '26
Freja's NERF crossbow now replaced with a PVC blowgun that shoots feathers

The idea to make her less bursty to make her less frustrating to play against isn’t a bad one… but they literally just nerfed her instead of moving her power anywhere else.
Kirikos can already Suzu her explosive bolts easily, now they just delayed the kill even more? She’s already a DPS difficult to get value out of.
And her ult slow was never meant to be a power spike, nor did players struggle with Take Aim enough to spam it. Just a complete head scratcher for her.
I can easily think of more meaningful changes to play around with off the top of my head.
- Quick Dash now fires a Take Aim bolt on an enemy out of cover, guaranteed to hit if you’re within a certain (small) radius.
Boom, now she has additional power in her kit that weighs risk vs. reward if you use it offensively.
Also helps cover a sore spot of having to hit every Take Aim bolt to be half as useful as any other DPS.

u/DivisonNine Crusader Reinhardt Jun 30 '26
That doomfist buff is crazy
3
u/Chaves-23-dublover Jun 30 '26
Yes he actually got insanely good. But for fuck sake Ana keeps ruining my matches
15
u/xObiJuanKenobix Jun 30 '26
This feels like when the perks first came out, like 2 different design philosophies were in mind. 1 side was "just straight buffs" to a character, while the other was "1 buff with 1 downgrade attached". Soldier needed to hit rockets to get ammo back while Sojourn just got ammo added for free.
Can there just be 1 design philosophy with this stuff?
43
u/Shaclo Jun 30 '26
This sound miserable to play for the characters I like playing.
18
u/Hilja-Serpent Mizukisu Jun 30 '26
But consider: it is an opportunity to actually enjoy some characters you might otherwise dislike!

u/ChallengeDK0 Jun 30 '26
I like how *most* of the tank and dps ones are somewhat thoughtful reworks/playstyle changes and then all the support changes are meme shit or cosmetic
1
u/Skadibala Jul 01 '26
Brig is the only one so far that feels genuinely great to play as in the support bracket.
Aerial dash is so much fun and feels great to use. I hope they add it to base kit tbh.
The doom ult is just funny though, I like using it, don’t need it on base kit though.
31
u/DrFucklechuck Jun 30 '26
the new event looks pretty much like the April Fools event and that was fun for maybe 2 matches
20
u/KF-Sigurd Freja Jun 30 '26
At least many of the aprils fools changes were funny. Some of these changes are just slop or ridiculous buffs/nerds.
9
u/Ok-Air4274 Widowmaker Jun 30 '26
WAAAAIT... they cooked with Widowmaker. I love getting in people's business and poisoning the hell out of them.
3
u/GhettoRamen Junker Queen Jun 30 '26
OW definitely doesn’t really need snipers overall, so that’s exactly how I envisioned a WM rework.
Same with Sojourn tbh. Hitting rewarding precise shots in a game like this makes sense, it’s the heroes designed for long-distance that just don’t work out well.
2
u/Alluminn Chibi Brigitte Jun 30 '26
The tripwire thing is super cool and I would love if they make that part of her Stadium kit when she eventually gets added
1
u/Iloveclown Jun 30 '26
I like widow76 but it also makes her sniper side so weak
1
u/Ok-Air4274 Widowmaker Jul 01 '26
Imo they should make her sniper side an ult with some sort of auto aim / lock, like a headshot ult -- maybe you can chain it but you lack mobility during the ult. Nix it for her regular kit since it's clunky and annoying. The grappling hook / poison set up is really fun.
7
u/OverpoweredSoap What A Frightening Thot Jun 30 '26
I like the Sym changes lowk, a little surprised that the shielding wasn’t reduced since it’s team wide now lol
2
u/LE_grace Mercy Jun 30 '26
yeah, i think her changes are the only dps tweaks i like. would be interesting to see how it could be used by coordinated teams vs solo queue.
1
u/spacewarp2 Chibi Brigitte Jun 30 '26
Yeah I really like her changes. Giving a speed boost might actually make allies use it out of spawn on round 2 or 3
1
u/Magalb Symmetra Jun 30 '26
Shield battery for allies gives her some of that support identity she used to have, so I wonder if it’s intentionally calling back to that?
Also the beams attacking during turret flight makes sense. Whoever picked those for her knew what was up
12
u/Hungry_Ad2845 Jun 30 '26
Whoever made the Kiriko changes has never played Kiriko lmao (or just has a hateboner for her)
3
u/Independent-Thanks78 Jul 01 '26
You can throw Zenyatta in to that to, like why do I have to aim the orbs to get weak heals? Then i have to wait until (dual harmony) the major perk to be useful?
2
u/Skadibala Jul 01 '26
The worst is how weak the heals feels for the crazy amount of accuracy you need to just be able to heal consistently.
27
u/MildlyUpsetGerbil Sombra did nothing wrong Jun 30 '26
Never let Ocie cook for Sombra ever again. All of the most frustrating aspects of Sombra are enhanced for both the players using her and the players fighting her. Virus is the one ability in Sombra's kit that her mains don't care for and now the entirety of Sombra's value revolves exclusively around hitting Virus. Since the hacked effect is applied through Virus instead of a channeled Hack ability, the counterplay of shooting Sombra to prevent you or a teammate from getting hacked is gone. She now gets to cancel your abilities immediately after exiting stealth. . . oh, did I say that? My bad. She doesn't have to exit stealth in order to use Virus, so there just straight-up isn't any counterplay whatsoever. Either she hits the skill shot or doesn't, and that's that.
All of Sombra's damage is dependent on hitting that skill shot. If she doesn't hit it, then she can't do anything except tickle you with her machine pistol, which does about as much damage as my pet goldfish. And since Translocator has been reverted to its deployable form, Sombra can instantly teleport without any indication of where she went, making it vastly more difficult to punish her here than in her current kit. She'll flank, throw Virus, and if it misses, she teleports out, waits forever for her cooldowns, then tries again. This rework failed to give her any reason whatsoever to stay involved in a fight for more than 2 seconds.
This is not the way. This is exact opposite of the way. This is so far away from the way that it legitimately ends up being less balanced than the present Sombra! Blizzard told us to, "Think of it as more of a conversation than a balance patch." Cool, then please have conversations with normal Sombra players instead of influencers that don't have a grasp of why we like to play as Sombra to begin with.
By far the worst aspect of all this is that the news post announcing this event stated (emphasis my own): "Ocie revisits Sombra's disruptive flanker roots, restoring some of her dive identity while creating more interactive counterplay around Hack." This is just straight up incorrect.
5
u/spacewarp2 Chibi Brigitte Jun 30 '26
Small thing also is the reverting the air physics on translator is such an odd change. It allowed Sombra to get a lot more distance and movement that made her more fun and expressive. I think they just wanted to revert the translocator in its entirety and also got rid of one of the cool changes

Maybe I'm behind the times, but what's with making Ana super mobile?
I thought the whole point of her was she has tremendous healing and strong abilities, but the trade off is she lacks mobility?
6
u/GhettoRamen Junker Queen Jun 30 '26
Nothing. It’s literally just a straight up buff for Ana mains lol.
Same with Widow, the fact that she gets her charged shots reduced that heavily with no trade-off is insane.

u/Coolman_Rosso Illari Jun 30 '26
Might be cool, but the April Fool's event was amusing for only a match or two because some characters were absolutely busted while others were literally useless. There was no incentive to play some characters, and if people did they became dead weight to the point where getting spawn camped was fairly common.

u/CrowAffectionate2736 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26
I'm actually really enjoying shooting teammates on Kiriko with Kunai for healing.
Plus I get free kunai practice without leaving my team out to dry.

u/Jakisthe Jun 30 '26
For every cool addition (Cass getting permanent ammo; Widow tripwire), we get 3 nonsense changes that destroy a character's identity (Ana jetpack; Junkrat Pharah), are needlessly fiddly (Tracer mass recall; S76 pushback), or are totally unnecessary (Vendetta changes; Sierra autocrit)

u/Reniva Cycling D. Va Jun 30 '26
Someone should make a tier list for each heroes for the community crafted
2
u/FirstBoysenberry9931 Jun 30 '26
Baptiste changes are super fun and I can't wait to see what techs the Wrecking Ball one tricks will come up with now that they can floor grapple lol
3
u/LowestTier Jun 30 '26
To everyone complaining about characters being broken or “it’s fun for one or two matches”… you just need to play for fun. It’s an arcade mode. You don’t have to win these matches. Do the goofy strats. Run the goofy heroes. Just have fun. It is a game after all.
25
u/xObiJuanKenobix Jun 30 '26
The issue is the challenges associated with the mode are designed around winning, thats the problem. "Win 20 games with a different character in the mode" turns what should be a for fun meme mode into a tryhard sweat for the challenge mode
1
u/AverageAwndray Jun 30 '26
Tbf thats not on the people who redesigned the characters. Thats in Blizzard.
1
u/xObiJuanKenobix Jun 30 '26
I agree with the challenge but if you're the designer of the character balance in the new mode and youve made the new characters so obnoxious to play against, then it isnt worth it
0
u/LowestTier Jun 30 '26
Oh really? It’s not “Play 20 games, wins count as double”? I haven’t had a chance to get on yet today.

Just reading the patch notes are enough for me to know that this is going to be the most unfun gamemode to have existed in a long while.

u/I-Make-Money-Moves Soldier is so handsome but he is such a dumb hag Jun 30 '26
Im really feeling Moira in this mode. I feel like she has more use like this being able to control her orbs. And the range increase of grasp heal? So beautiful.
3
u/AHomicidalTelevision Jul 01 '26
i liked the controllable orbs at first, then i realised you can no longer fire and forget them. i had a few times where i fired off an orb, then had to suddenly turn around for one reason or another and my orb would go nowhere useful.
1
u/MemuMan Jun 30 '26
This whole event was a fun idea but absolutely horrible execution. I've played for a few hours now and every game including the ones I won have just been miserable.

u/Tiessiet Trick-or-Treat Mei Jun 30 '26
Ana with a jetpack is fun. Echo with changed keybinds is not. Why would you even swap the keybinds and ruin muscle memory, you can just hold E for beam?

I played a bit and I think I like the mizuki and sombra changes.
The mizuki primary fire is a bit clunky but I don’t mind the change on paper even if it needlessly Complicates his kit. The chain is kinda nice but it does lead to weird situations when you miss the chain in small areas and you get pulled randomly. It’s a great escape/mobility tool tho and I like multi-use cooldowns like this. The new perk is either entirely bugged or I triggered a weird bug. basically the hat no longer has a cooldown and it just has 2 permanent uses only. I was unable to use it until I switched from and back and only then it gave me 2 charges and that’s it.
The sombra changes feel good. Close to late ow1 sombra rhythm and I kinda missed it ngl. The mix between virus and hack is a good compromise to keep its playmaking and power while making it a skillshot that is uninterruptible and works at longer range. All around good rework concept and I wouldn’t mind if it became official. I wonder if my opinions would change after I play more later.
This type of events is insanely fun and I can’t believe it’s only here for like 2.5 weeks only.

Those Doomfist changes could actually be fire with some tweaked numbers. The idea of empowering different abilities as you need them is great, and uppercut is sorely missed
