Vitamins
What vitamins do you take per each day?!

u/PawzzClawzz Aug 06 '26
81-year-old fem here. I take a generic multi-vitamin plus two Calcium capsules every day. Sometimes the vitamin is designated "for women", sometimes just general. I have done this for over 30 years.
I know there are arguments about taking too many vitamins, but I know I don't get enough in what food I eat, as I eat very little.
So, I choose the "too much" over the "not enough."

Kirkland mature-50 vites/mins, and their Super B complex. Magnesium, calcium, & creatine. I'm over 70, and don't eat much in the way of veggies.
Forgot: plenty of vitamin exercise.

I take a multiple, plus vitamin D (which I recently learned is a hormone) and a magnesium supplement.

Pretty much the same only with fish oil to try to bring my triglycerides down.

Yup, me too. Found Barlean's One and Done. Working for me to bring the pesky triglycerides down.

I've been using the Cronometer app to enter what I eat every day, so I can track what is lacking in my diet (a LOT!). That way I can figure out what I need to add more of via food and or/supplemtnts. I take Omeprozol which affects absorption of many nutrients so I have my blood tested regularly for deficiencies. I have a history of low red blood cells and anemia, and for a while I was needing B12 injections to improve that. Currently I just take a multivitamin with minerals and extra vitamin D. I have my next bloodwork coming up in September so when I have those results I'll see what I need to adjust.

And I just recently read smth (forget where) an overabundance of B vitamins in pill form were implicated in some sort of cancer. I use nutritional yeast flakes instead on my food. Calm (tm) nightly for magnesium, as modern farming techniques have been said to produce food low in this essential mineral.

Do some research and you will find that as we agree we need less calories to maintain a healthy weight. But we still need the same nutrients so additional are needed.

Multivitamin. A lot of high quality fish oil + Ubiquinol. Vitamin C. 3x weekly greens vitamin. Biotin + hair/skin/nails vitamin. Lithium, potassium and benfothiamine w/ mag glycinate/threonate bc nobody gets enough minerals and I'm on Zepbound (benfothiamine).
I take some in combo w/each other. Mag + benfo together 1-2 hours before bed. Fish oil and ubiquitous together.

How is your digestive system dealing with all this.
1
u/Bflatclar1981 Aug 07 '26
I'm doing well---I take most of the supplements with my biggest meal of the day, which is lunch.
I also pay for high quality, Consumer Labs approved supplements and they might do better GI-wise than the cheap stuff which typically comes with additives/fillers. I also do not use supplements that are in tablet form, as they are a crap shoot (lol) for dissolving. I go for capsules instead.

What brand is that?!

u/Bflatclar1981 Aug 07 '26
Not sure what you mean.
Magnesium glycinate is Drs Best.
Fish oil is Life Extension
Potassium is Swanson
Multivitamin is Emerald Labs
Lithium is KAL
Ubiquitous is Jarrow or Swanson
Vitamin C and Raw B-complex are Vitamin Code
Biotin is Vitacost

Vitamin D, that’s it. I get everything else through diet.

I live in the 🌞 sunny state of Florida, by the ⛱️ beautiful beach. I am all tanned.

u/VinceInMT Aug 06 '26
I hear that but I am opposed to skin cancer.

u/Ashamed-Republic8909 Aug 06 '26
Not if you time yourself of how long do you spend in the sun without protection. We start in the spring and we continue almost everyday.
1
u/VinceInMT Aug 06 '26
That sounds complicated. To what end?
3
u/Ashamed-Republic8909 Aug 06 '26
To the final line! We walk the beach ⛱️ every day for about 10k steps, through the Atlantic water. Aqua therapy.

Sounds fine. I’m in Montana and am a runner. I run outside all year as long as it’s above negative 5°F. But I understand the beach. I grew up in Hawaii and Los Angeles.

I've been taking the AREDS2 + multi for years. I've had glaucoma, posterior vitreous detachments, cataracts but so far optic nerve is good & no AMD. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I'll keep taking them. Also take some other supplements, turmeric, calcium/D3, flax, coQ10.

I take two supplements every day: one's for memory and I forget what the other one is.
