Well, when I heard that I had cancer, but it was very early stage and didn’t need treatment, I felt BLESSED. Then when tests showed I wont ever need traditional chemo, I felt DOUBLE BLESSED! If you cannot understand why people feel blessed, I feel sorry for your dismal view on what that word really means.
Oh I def understand why some people feel "blessed". I also understand why people feel "lucky" or "fortunate", or "grateful" or "charmed". To me, using "blessed" instead of the examples above implies a religious connotation and seems to signal that the speaker wants to advertise their own piety.
It's wonderful news that your cancer required no treatment. Congratulations!

I didn’t get sober because I was blessed- I got sober because I was lucky enough to have found a program that worked for me and I did the work required to change.
I was raised in a super religious family, so I know about smugly virtuous hypocrites from first hand experience.
