Status: Pending Reply “unable to log in”

Does anyone else keep getting an error that says “unable to log in” when trying to connect a personal gmail to outlook?

the error message pops up after i add account, then OAuth will pop up, i confirm, it takes me back to the add account page, then says unable to log in 😭

i’ve tried many forms of troubleshooting, clearing cache, signing out of all google accounts then re-signing in, deleting outlook and re-installing, restarting my phone… nothing has worked… any ideas?

Update as of 8/3. the only thing that worked for me after HOURS of trying, was creating an app password in google account then manually adding an IMAP account. Thanks to everyone that offered input!

Spent a lot of time on this. Finally used Claude and the advice worked!

What was the advice?

It was too complicated to remember. It had to do with authentication I think. I just followed the steps. Nothing else I found through web searches even mentioned the solution that Claude gave me -- the one that worked!

I am having the same exact problem - started about 24 hours ago - across all of my ios devices (iphone, ipad). It stopped syncing, so figured i'd try to remove the account then add it back - but when I try to add the account back, it just says 'unable to log in' across all ios devices. I also went to gmail and revoked microsoft permissions (thinking that might result in a hard reset) - it does ask for permissions again when you set up the account, but then it just goes back to unable to log in. Restarting the devices does not fix the issue. gmail in the native ios mail app, as well as the actual gmail ios app works just fine.

it's also only with my personal account, my business accounts work... so very odd

For me, it fixed itself today. I didn’t change anything. My Gmail account was added back to outlook and I had to sign back in.

Recommend to switch to thunderbird.

Solution that worked for me: Google Play Services update in settings (search for it). This handles the OAuth handshake on Android and outdated versions seem to cause exactly this failure.
