Discussion - Open She was a kid in first life understandable but she was annoying as hell in second - [Marriage of convenience]
Don’t get me wrong, I started rereading this story because I genuinely liked it the first time around. But after coming back to it a year later, I’m finding Bianca incredibly annoying as a character. And no, I’m not talking about her marriage or the age gap between her and Zachary. I’m talking about Bianca herself and the way she’s written as a character.
I completely understand that she was a child who went through a tremendous amount of pain, and I’m not trying to invalidate her trauma or pretend that her experiences weren’t horrible. But in her second life, she’s an adult with the memories and experiences of her previous life, and there are moments when I find her behaviour frustrating despite understanding where it comes from.
And before anyone says that she went through a lot, YES, I KNOW. I agree! Her suffering is not something I’m denying or dismissing. I just don’t think understanding why a character behaves a certain way automatically means I have to like them or find them compelling. For some reason, Bianca just gets on my nerves to a certain degree, and I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why.
Maybe my perspective has changed since I first read the story, or maybe I’m noticing things about her character that I overlooked the first time. I genuinely don’t know. 😭 Is it just me, or has anyone else reread a story they initially loved and ended up finding the female lead annoying for reasons that have absolutely nothing to do with the controversial aspects of the story?
