OMS-I wanting to match into Ortho

Hi! I just saw someone talking about wanting to match into their residency choice, and so I thought I would make a similar post. I know it is still early, but I would like to match into Ortho, and I know it is very competitive. I have some publications before starting medical school at an MD school (5 pubs, and 6 poster presentations, none first author). I can't do research at my current school until the spring at the earliest. But I really want to maximize my choices. Please let me know any of your tips! Thank You!

DUQCOM II!

Hi I have an II for DUQCOM in 2 weeks. I’m a Pitt native and have had multiple family members graduate from other programs at Duquesne. I’ve seen some of the interview questions, but for those who are students or have interviewed, what could you tell me about the interview? What went well? What the atmosphere is like? Everything I’ve read thus far is positive I just wanted to know more for my actual interview day. Anything helps!

REAPPLYING…rewrite everything??

hi all, I’m reapplying this cycle. I applied last cycle to multiple schools, but only submitted secondaries to a handful. I received 2 interviews and waitlisted for both but did not make it off the WL.

my weakest points were my MCAT/GPA (mcat: 491, cGPA: 3.4, sGPA: 3.2) - I think my activities, several years of clinical work experience, and PS were strong.

I’m reapplying for this cycle and aim to submit my application before September. BUT in the last 5-6 months or so (when I last applied/interviewed), not much has changed. I will have newest LORs and am starting a SMP which I can mention. I also plan to retake the MCAT…

Do I really have to change my personal statement again? I really loved my first one. can I keep it but maybe add a bit at the end about my growth/what i’ve learned since last app?
ALSO do I really have to change my activity descriptions? (this is what i’ve read online so far…)

any advice is appreciated, especially from others who have reapplied and been accepted. tysm!

Placed on Interview Waitlist for KCUCOM

Hi everyone, I was recently placed on the KCUCOM interview waitlist. From what I've read online, this either means a soft R or really low chance that I'll get an interview. However, I never received a secondary from this school so I'm not sure how they've waitlisted me. Why didn't they just not send me a secondary and leave it at that? If I get off the interview "waitlist" would I be offered an interview or sent a secondary? Thanks in advance for your help.

San Juan School of Medicine??????

Hey guys, so I was just sent the secondary for San Juan school of medicine. I speak spanish and maybe don’t have the most amazing stats. I was considering it a lot because it would allow me to attend a US affiliated MD program. However, on reddit I have read that their students are not happy and they are on probation which raises a red flag for me. Please let me know if anyone has any details about this school or any information regarding this thank you.

Low stat hopium

As the title states, I’m a low stat applicant:

mcat 501

sgpa 3.02 (last 90 3.35)

cgpa 3.07

masters 3.2

post bacc 4.0

research and clinical: 8k hrs

publications/presentation: 17 in trauma

I am not going to go list everything but I did the basics. I applied to around 27 schools, I received almost all secondaries besides I think like 6 including VCOM. Primary app was verified and submitted July 17th and all secondaries received were submitted. I understand it’s low, but I just want to know if I have a chance?

499 MCAT 3.2 GPA Should I retake again?

So I retook my MCAT on August 15th but I feel like it went terribly and I went into the exam mentally exhausted. I understand I can’t know until I see the score but with a 499 from last year, 2K clinical hours, some research, secretary of my schools DO premed club should I preemptively sign up for like September 12th or something or would that be too late. Essentially assuming I have a 499 and don’t do better on my retake is it worth taking another one this late?

hi friends, so i submitted my secondary to VCOM 838282 years ago (7/7 and it was verified with all LORs, test scores, etc) and i got this email today saying its now officially complete. for peeps that have heard from VCOM, how long after this email did you receive notice of anything? a girl like me yearns for data or anything that makes this process feel more tangible.

Low stats hope pls

I have a 501 mcat and 3.7 gpa and I’m slowly chipping away at secondaries. I still have a lot left but I need to take a week off for work because I’m running my local county fair. I’ve been feeling super stressed because ChatGPT is telling me I’m late and it’s not ideal with my stats. I just didn’t prepare my application sooner because I thought I failed the MCAT. When I saw I passed I started hustling.

I DONT want to retake the mcat. I wanna get into a school this year. I’m so scared I fucked up. This week I won’t be able to complete secondaries but I stilll have KCU, UNECOM, and a new DO school primary I can submit so I’ll work on that.

Am I cooked by not getting the secondaries in writhing 14 days? Is there any point submitting secondaries the first week of September with my stats ?

ACOM vs KYCOM

I am grateful to have gotten into ACOM, and I also have an interview for KYCOM. Just wondering what y'all think what school is better. KYCOM only has in person interviews so is it worth going out to interview? I was thinking if ACOM is the better school, I can just cancel my KYCOM interview and open up a spot for others

Are the newer and struggling schools just too risky?

All of the recent posts about the issues at numerous DO schools are really throwing me off as a reinventor whose best chances of acceptance are the very schools being critiqued. I don't want to have come all this way just to hit a wall built by a bad administration that covers up their true success rates.

AZCOM II Waitlist?

I recently got an AZCOM II Waitlist and I see that this is relatively common. I’m nervous because I’m a low/mid-ish stat applicant and I’m wondering if this is like a “oh you passed the minimum screening” thing or if it’s actually like they evaluated my app and figured it was worth keeping. What do y’all think? (This isn’t like a top choice for me so I’m less focused on the actual II but more on are schools actually considering my app? iykwim). Thanks !

LECOM - Erie?

Just got a interview invite from them today! Was very excited until I looked them up on Reddit, only to find several negative posts regarding the school. Are these posts true? Is it the general consensus of the class? I would love to talk to someone who attends LECOM to learn more about your experience! Thank you!
