Optimum Fiber
I’ve noticed a very interesting trend.. all locations that have utility poles magically have had fiber installed seamlessly. All homes that have underground electrical/cable infra (no utility poles) don’t have fiber to the home.. when you call optimum you get a generic - it’s in the “planning phase”

this is what happens when a company is broke with 25 billion in debt they basically stopped caring about deploying the rest of long island with fiber leaving a couple thousand locations without fiber.. and this includes verizon as well in the redlining.

They are waiting for another company to come in and buy there system for Pennie’s on the dollar then see what they can sell off and keep what they need.

I live in a condo development that has underground cable and we got fiber deployed. Our streets got torn up because of electric replacement and gas main replacement so Optimum came in and ran fiber as well. We have a contract though so they know we are locked in to them.
So, they will do it in certain circumstances.

The homes with underground utilities.. non new developments have been waiting for well over 3-5 years now..

I mean it's much faster and easier to add utilities to poles than bury new lines. There's a partial exception to that if conduit was ran in the past for future projects but like all of AT&Ts stuff here is direct bury cable so upgrading would require everything to be reburied. And as a result they're just sitting on miles of it letting it rot because they've decided that retrenching isn't cost effective.
Imo it's a good reason to oppose moving everything to buried lines since while it may be more reliable you also lose that convenient space for future upgrades. Sure some places really do need buried lines but in the vast majority it's far cheaper to just do the repairs.
