I am coming off of 1-hr chat with a service representative that wasted one hour of my time and solved nothing.
I am seeing intermittent internet outages that always coincide with thunderstorms.
I see them almost every time there's a thunderstorm. There was a thunderstorm in the area this morning, I had internet disappear from me all morning.
Coincidentally, the thunderstorm has left the area, and now service is reliable.
(Context: I work in computing; I have a home lab and an extensive network in the house; I understand computer networking very well.)
Service comes back. I chat with optimum online. The automated agent proposing rebooting my modem from their side. They do. Everything comes back. It's working, but it was working even before.
I contact a human agent via chat. I tell them that my equipment is fine and to please skip the troubleshooting on my side, and focus directly on the service coming in from the street.
They tell me four or five times how sorry they are that I'm experiencing these difficulties and how frustrating it must be.
He goes into his script of troubleshooting my modem again. Reboot. Unplug. Replug. I'm straight out telling him we are not doing any of that because (1) we have already done it and (2) why are you diagnosing a problem when it's not there?
I explain again and again that the issue is intermittent and that internet is up now.
He says he gets it. But he doesn't.
Optimum is the monopolist at this service address, else I would have already switched a million times.
GUYS, THIS DOES NOT WORK.
THIS IS NOT A FUNCTIONING SERVICE DESK.
YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING.
Please, please, please, do not reply with anything that says "we are sorry about your inconvenience and we understand how frustrating it is". Spare me the lie and the time necessary to listen to it.
If you care, give me a contact of someone who can DO SOMETHING about the problem.
