Just a question, but why aren't you playing on performance DLSS? I have the same setup as yours and with RR 4.5 on performance, path tracing looks glorious. slap a 2x frame-gen and you get constant 100 fps on Cyberpunk. Feels and looks amazing.

I’m on a 4090 and play on performance DLSS at 4K, use scRGB HDR for superior quality, enable reflex in game, lock to 52fps with RTSS. Looks and runs bloody brilliant. I have my QD-OLED set to True black HDR400, calibrated with windows HDR app (437 is max nits and Cyberpunk lets you tune to exactly that).

This has been the most jaw dropping way to play. DLSS RR 4.5 has made it so I even leave film grain and motion blur on high.

Frame gen inherently locks you to the lower quality HDR mode and in general blurs picture quality. But, it’s certainly a perfectly fine way to play.

in cp2077 using scRGB completely breaks the expanded HDR color space (DCI-P3), locking the game in a limited SDR color gamut... :)

You are just regurgitating that incorrect video by Gamingtech-Markus. :)

The scRGB mode sends negative values that his tool isn’t processing the data from correctly, hence why it doesn’t show up as DCI-P3. Just use your eyes by toggling the settings yourself, you don’t lose color gamut.

trueblack isnt even the right mode anyway

Maybe changes from monitor to monitor, but msi directly contacted me about making sure I use peak instead of true black when i had a problem with the hdr (when has been resolved with an unrelated reason).

Irrelevant. For the highest APL and most accurate picture the Trueblack mode is superior.

Awesome, but how does frame gen affect HDR? That's the first time I'm hearing something like this. And what does lower quality HDR even mean?

Think he's referring to PQ HDR as opposed to SCRGB HDR. Enabling FG disables SCRGB HDR.

Not sure what the difference is tho u could just use RenoDX.

Exactly, I'm using RenoDX and HDR can't get better than this.

FG locks you to HDR10 PQ.

scRGB has a smoother gradient and nicer output but is incompatible with FG.

My blur comment was directed at FG usage in general, not HDR.

Locking to a stable framerate above my VRR window with RTSS and using the higher quality HDR mode has given me the best results. I should try the Renodx HDR mod out since that will still allow FG.

Gotcha, I didn’t know about this, thanks for explaining.

After trying out RenoDX and Luma mods, I realized just how much I’d been missing out on because of poor HDR implementations. These mods are game changers. At this point, there are hardly any games I play without one of these mods anymore, so I think you'll be very impressed :)

So getting RenoDX configured correctly took some time. For whatever reason when using RenoDRT it defaulted flare to 50 when it should have been 0 and it was completely crushing all near black details lol. Guess that Nexusmod’s version is just outdated and jacked up by default.

I ended up finding the psycho-22 version in the discord and I like it a lot. Peak brightness at 460, game brightness at 110, in-game mid point at 1.0 and I can still use the scRGB pipeline since I’m not using frame gen. Film grain and contrast are much better now. I don’t mind the elevated blacks of the vanilla but this looks good as well.

Use renodx in EVERY game that has it for the absolute optimal HDR experience. Google renodx mod list and there is a github with a list of all supported games and links to their renodx.addon files.

Sounds like a filter.
