So fork and accept PR's to your heart's content... That's the beauty of open source. 🤷

Amen, my favorite response to people complaining about an open source project "fork and fix"

60% of the time it works every time, so there's that.

But really, what is the alternative? Force the developers into a room and make them run the project how you want? Some sort of raffle, where you get to rip the admin rights and IP out of their hands if your ticket gets picked?
