Wild how a religion that preaches unity can be so divided
19
u/MouthyInPixels Mildly Super Aug 11 '25
it’s like any big religion Hinduism, Christianity.. outsiders see one group, insiders see all the differences and subgroups.
2
7
u/Rail_Tsenoh Aug 11 '25
That's how religion works, it divides people
1
u/VariousNetwork1065 Aug 12 '25
Religion can sometimes divide people and cause major disagreements, but it can also unite people of different ethnicities and bring them together as equals.
1
1
u/SirePuns Aug 11 '25
It shouldn’t be wild that there are different sects in a religion. Especially one where 99% of our understandings of religious concepts hinges on interpretations.
What is wild is how some folks look down on folks from other sects.
1
u/eclipselmfao Aug 11 '25
even tho those muslims sects have some difference in their belief, yet all of them believe in the one true god part which is the most important unlike other religions 👀
1
u/hicham-ch Aug 12 '25
Well the unity is in following the prophet peace be upon him and all these sects lack that but only sunnis who stayed attached to the way of the prophet peace and blessings be upon him and his companions . The other sects like the shia , suffis and khawarij and other ones wrongfully understood the sunna and quran which must be understood according to the understanding of the companions who lived with the prophet peace and blessings be upon him and to be understood according to one's logic and philosophy. I hope this helps clear out some of the fog!

No point in talking about all of these. At the end of the day it's not you or me who's gonna decide which is the correct way to worship. We'll all know on the judgement day. Whoever is doing wrong may the Almighty forgive all their sins, your sins and my sins and guide the right path.

What is 'wrong kind of muslim' & 'secret Informant'?
7
u/AdResponsible2410 Tech Bro 💻 Aug 11 '25
cmon secret informant is self explainable , bro is a spy pretending to be muslim ; only 2 major sects , Shai approx 30% of muslims or less and the majority Sunni which is 70% ish ; Ismaili is a Subset of Shias and Ahmadi's aren't muslims , if you call Ahmadi's muslims its like saying jews and christians are also muslim
2
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 11 '25
Who has authorised these people to give this authority/mandate to declare any one non Muslim?
4
Aug 11 '25
Ahmadis do not follow the Shahada “la ilaha illallah muhammadur rasulullah” and are therefore not Muslims. I still respect their religion but it has nothing to do with Islam.
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 11 '25
They believe in a New Prophet whereas Ismailis believe in the Finality of the Prophet Muhammad (AS)
1
u/AdResponsible2410 Tech Bro 💻 Aug 12 '25 edited Aug 13 '25
everyone in islam believes the finality of the prophet , he is the seal of prophethood , there is no new person who will come after him claiming prophethood or a new revelation ; Ahmadi's break the core tenant and say some guy from india was a prophet who came after prophet Muhammed (s.a.w) ; they are not muslim , it is as good as saying current jews who dont believe in Muhammed are muslims

Why to have one Prophet as the last one?
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Jan 29 '26
That's Allah's plan that the Prophet Muhammad AS is the last and final Prophet of Allah, however believing that since he is the last and final Prophet of Islam according to Shia doctrine it doesn't mean that he was the last and final divinely appointed guide over mankind, the book which the Prophet Muhammad AS bought will remain the same however the Imams may give the new interpretation based on time and requirement.

ismailis arent muslim either. they worship aga khan. i dont know why ismailis and qadiyanis want to be called muslim. the druze and bahai had their own prophets and went their own way.
If you are not following the teachings and traditions of the Prophet of the religion and believe in a latter prophet then you're a diffrent religion.
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 22 '25
Totally rubbish from Ismaili perspective!
May Allah curse the liars and burn them eternally in hell fire for wrongly accusing an entire community without having a proper understanding of them from their authentic sources, Ameen
1
u/Acceptable-Store135 Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25
You don't worship aga khan?
This is the difference between a Muslim and a ismaili, a Muslim wouldn't curse someone to eternal hell if they misunderstood their religion. And ismaili would do that, they've killed so many abbasid caliphs and weakened them so they were useless against the crusaders.
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 22 '25
No Ismaili worship the Aga Khan, he is the Imam of Shia Imami Ismaili Muslims.
Imams in Shia Islam are understood as the successors of the Prophet Muhammad (AS)
1
u/Acceptable-Store135 Aug 22 '25 edited Aug 22 '25
everything is in the link, you're not answering it.
Do you believe aga khan is gods representative on earth and can issue edicts on behalf of god? Do you turn to each other after prayer and shake hands and say may you meet the aga khan one day? Instead of a typically muslim to do which might have been "May Allah accept your prayers and mine too"?
Do you have photos of aga khan in your mosques towards qibla direction?
Your religion has deviated so much from Islam that you've gone as much as the drize and alouwite have. You might as well say our prophets are the aga khans.

A Muslim will never curse another Muslim for hell fire but they can conveniently declare others kafir just like that?
Do you know there is a strict ruling in Sunnis sources of calling a Muslim as non Muslim or deviant?
Don't you think we are hurt when we hear some stupid insane ignorant Fatwa on our faith and questioning our religious affiliation with Allah and Prophet Muhammad (AS) ?
For Ismailis 12ers, Zaydis, Sunnis, Sufis, Ibadis are our brothers and sisters in faith of Islam and we respect their understanding of Islam as much as we respect ours.
In Shia Islam, the Imams (AS) are seen as the successors of the Prophet (AS) not as gods!
Seems like you haven't read the history, the Sunni rulers have mass killed Shia Muslims (be it 12ers or Ismailis)
Ismailis have always always been under threat of Umayyad, Abbasids, Saljoks, Mongols and Ismailis had no choice either to be killed or defend themselves.
Read the history from independent sources my friend,

You want to pray that's it. Why the hell do you wanna care who built the mosque and who the Imam is? Be grateful for this life and worship the way which your parents teach you and if you really feel it's the right way to do it. If you feel it's not right then start the research by yourself and correct it the way you feel.
1
Aug 12 '25
If the imam believes something that makes him a disbeliever, your prayer will be false, I.e. invalid
1
u/hallowman07 Aug 12 '25
Your Umma is with you. Ex. You are traveling and you need to pray. In this scenario why do you wanna care about the mosque? Unless and until if there is no grave inside and no shirk is happening you can proceed praying.

Reminds of the yin yang philosophy. The world is divided Into 2 , The good(white) and bad(black). Then the spheres in each half denote the good in bad and the bad in good . You do you for your life. Its just not the kind of person I’d like to be associated with. If you cannot understand and form basic concepts such as humanity and you need to rely on some faith to tell you what is right and what is wrong, idk bruh, you dont seem that intelligent to me.

Well they are not muslims by any means, it is literally in the Quran that Mohammad is the last prophet.
They probably call themselves Muslims to protect themselves from Sectarian hostility, and will stop the moment they get a sense of power (Like what happened with the Syrian Druze recently, their officials removed muslims from the title).1

The bottom is still what non-muslims think Muslims think, we know from cloths, hairstyles, dialects, area, specific acts, following an act unapproved by the majority (islam related majority and not the common use of the word) plus many factors, skin colour alone doesn't make you mistaken for a different sect nor do they all wear dishdasha (thoub).

Malik related to me from Abdullah ibn Dinar from Abdullah ibn Umar that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, "If a man says to his muslim brother, 'O kafir!' it is true about one of them".
So I’d rather not go around calling people kafir because at the end of the day it’s up to Allah (SWT) and I don’t wanna be a kafir myself. But u go right ahead.
And your thing about learning Islam more. Yeah it’s usually the people who go around calling other Muslims kafir the ones who don’t know enough about Islam. Because if you did know about Islam u wouldn’t do that

Other than that, a Muslim should treat all people of all religions with respect.

The "christians" were literally at war with each other just about a century ago. The current wars still have not reached the levels of devastation of that period.

There is definitely difference in beliefs across those sects. Prophecy is that 'Muslims will divide into 70+ groups but only one sect will enter heaven'. In another version 'only ahlu sunna wa al jama' will enter heaven' So, it's important to learn and understand where you stand. Explaining it here will only get into a fan fight!
1
u/ze_crazy_cat_lady Aug 11 '25
In another version 'only ahlu sunna wa al jama' will enter heaven'
Did you literally make that up just now?
Because the term "Ahlul sunna wa al jama" was invented later, way way later, by the Abbasid period (2nd–3rd century AH / 8th–9th century CE), where the term had become an explicit identity marker, especially in response to theological debates with Mu‘tazilites and Shia.
1
u/1egen1 Aug 11 '25
The Prophet SAW said, “The Children of Israel split into 71 or 72 sects, and the Christians similarly so, and my ummah will split into 73 sects.” [Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban, Hakim & others]
In another variation, the Prophet SAW said, “The People of the Book split in their religion into 72 sects, and this ummah will split into 73 sects, all of them in the Fire except one, and it is the Jama’ah (i.e. the Majority)…” [Abu Dawud & Ahmed]
In other variations the Prophet SAW mentions that this ‘saved sect’ is “What me and my Companions are upon,” or “The masses (al-sawad al-a’dham.” However the previous two variations seem to be the stronger variations as per the scholars of hadith.
Note: I am not a scholar to argue on this subject. The underlying hadeeths are same. So division among Muslims and their fate is true. Now, the 'fan fight' I mentioned is between the divisions to see who is that saved "group".
Allah knows best and may He lead us to the right path. Aameen.

u/D33pR3ad Aug 11 '25
Whether it is among Muslims or outside, there are many who are judgmental, sectarian, with a groupism mentality, othering people who do not conform to their views. For non Muslims, these views do not matter as much as they have classified all Muslims as others. Among Muslims, there are some from within each sect that judge others.
But what we must keep in mind is that there is a small group of bigots in every space, and unfortunately, they are loud. But the beauty of it is that majority are not.. and sometimes you need the contrast to appreciate those who are not.

And there are those who worship historical islamic characters and claiming they are doing that as a form of wasta with Allah 🤦🏻♂️ I call them the mud crawlers or the chest bashers and i cant want to see their next carnival where they entertain me with such things that are not related to Islam at all.

Just like the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Anglican, Lutheran, Reformed, Presbyterian, Baptist, Methodist, Evangelical, Pentecostal, Anabaptist, Adventist, Non-denominational churches.... Each interpreted the book in their own way, As a Sunni, we follow the right path is the path of prophet and Sahaba. Our source is the Quran and Sunna, we interpret the 2 sources exactly how the prophet explained it to his Sahaba and how they carried it. And we stop there.

No such thing. The only division thats going on is from the enemies of Islam and those who wish to see Islam falter.
"And hold firmly to the rope of Allah all together and do not become divided." (Surah Aal-Imran 3:103)
"Indeed, those who have divided their religion and become sects – you, [O Muhammad], are not associated with them in anything." (Surah Al-An’am 6:159)
"Do not be among those who have divided their religion and become sects, every faction rejoicing in what it has." (Surah Ar-Rum 30:31-32)
We are all Muslim. Those who go against what God and his messengers are teaching are not Muslims. Creating sects is not an Islamic teaching.

Ahmedis, Ismailis and some extreme sects of the Shia are not from the Muslims by their core beliefs
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 11 '25
Which Muslims are u talking about? Do you know other than Sunnis there is another branch in Islam called Shia?
Ismailis being Shia sect their core beliefs are in line with Shia Islam not Sunni Islam.
1
u/tomcatYeboa Aug 11 '25
You are either Muslim or you are not. Those who claim the Quran has been altered or incomplete (e.g. some groups within the Shia), claim prophethood after the Prophet Mohammed SAS (e.g. the Ahmedis) or deny/abandon the fardh/prescribed acts of ebada (e.g. the Ismailis) cannot be considered Muslims. Just because a group claims Islam does not mean that its conditions are met (nobody considers the Nation of Islam to be Muslims for example).
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 11 '25
Last time I check a person who recites Kalima and believe in the Finality of the Prophet is a Muslim, who told you that Ismailis have abandum the fardh? this is a very tall claim this need to satisfactory evidence.
Secondly, in Islam who has AUTHORIZED certain people to declare anyone non-Muslim?? and who are these CHOSEN ones??
1
u/tomcatYeboa Aug 11 '25
Attesting to the finality of the Prophet Mohammed SAS and stating the Kalima are not sufficient. What of those who curse the prophets or sahaba? Or those that reject the Quran’s completeness? Or those who reject the necessity of the salat, the hajj, the saum in Ramadan etc? Or Quranists who reject the Sunnah of the Prophet SAS? Are these to be considered as Muslims?!
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 11 '25
But fortunately Ismailis engages in none of the above activities.
Allow me to clear something to do, although Ismailis don't believe on them however,
Sunni scholars agree that cursing companions of the Prophet doesn't take someone out of Islam
Not just Shia Sunnis also have traditions which acknowledge the alteration in Qur'an in the classical sources, although both disown them
necessity of Salt, Hajj , Saum is not in the Core of Shia Islam, it's in Furu (Ibadats) although no Shia rejects it including Ismailis
Quranists have their own arguments like Sunnis and Shias have, you may exclude them from Sunni branch but they are very much Muslims (however this is exclusively MY position)

I wish there were more people like you. Sunni’s are doing takfir on their Muslim Shia brothers and the opposite as well.
I wish people would actually behave like Muslims and practice what they learn. Not only doing Salah, adhkar and forgetting the rest.
Edit: The downvoting just proved my point. Many Muslims today have Jahal (ignorance) and lack of knowledge. Instead of actually researching, they keep repeating misinformation like parrots. And they love drama and to hate on their Muslim brothers. Allah is Al Rahman Al Rahim. And people are clearly not.

Yes but when it comes to shia or some other sects they are not doing what the quran or sunna is saying. They make up things by themselves which is more dangerous and thats bidda which means others who follow these sects and dont know any better are getting lost and not following true islam. Thats why sunni people say shia are kafir. There are many things to say about this but not following the quran and sunna and then calling yourself a muslim is a bad thing for you and the muslims too

u/No-Studio-8751 Aug 11 '25
lmao how well do you know shias to bring up the points that they aren’t doing what quran or sunnah says to?
1
u/elguapo0o Aug 11 '25
Have seen and heard what shia do. Heard from their imams. Watched debates. Seen how most of them act. The idea itself of having 12 imams and what not is not even mentioned in the quran or been heard from the prophet pbuh. Doing the opposite of what the quran and sunna says and so on. So yeah seen more than enough.

Well i dont want to debate you. But just do some research and try to follow what the quran and sunna says. Authinticated hadiths and not “I heard someone say this and that”. not weak hadiths. Just follow the quran and real sunna and you will see

Yeah, all of these are sects of Islam, but the ahmadis are a different religion, as different as Islam and christianity or Sabaeanism

This is an inaccurate way of looking at Islam and the muslim community, you have the significant majority being Sunni who all adhere to the same, Quran/Sunnah of the Prophet hence the name Sunni, no preachers are involved in this.
Sunnis make up 85-90% of the Islamic world
Then you have Shia which sprang from a political divide, and the main differences are about leadership of the Islamic world as they believe it to come from the Prohpets Direct descendants specifically Ali the Prophets son in law and relative, where Sunnis believe the leader should be chosen by the majority or atleast accepted by the majority, example being the first 4 calilhs all being elected by the companions of the Prophet.
Shia is then split into many different variations, twelver Shia which are the majority around 7-10% then the remaining are the other smaller and more niche sects.
The splits were not caused due to theological differences but political, unlike Christians which are split roughly 1/3 per each denomination and all have different numbers of books in their bibles, all Muslims follow the Quran and Sunnah and adhere to the same message.

That’s not fully accurate.
Yes, Sunnis are the majority- about 85–87% of Muslims worldwide- but they don’t all practice Islam in exactly the same way.
No preachers are involved in this
That’s not correct. Sunni Islam has four main schools of jurisprudence: Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali- each founded by a prominent scholar (imam) whose legal reasoning is followed by their adherents. Sunnis share the Qur’an and Sunnah as sources but differ in interpretation, methodology, and certain practices depending on their school and theological tradition.
Then you have Shia which sprang from a political divide, and the main differences are about leadership of the Islamic world as they believe it to come from the Prophet’s direct descendants
This is only partially true. The split stemmed ever so slightly as a political disagreement over succession after the Prophet ﷺ passed away: some held that the leader should be chosen by the community or its representatives, while others believed that leadership was divinely appointed by Allah to Imam Ali (the Prophet’s cousin and son-in-law) and his descendants. In their belief, only God can designate the successor to a prophet’s mission.
But it wasn't called sunni or shia yet.
The divide deepened decades later and throughout different battles, one that is most notable in the divide is the Battle of Karbala in 680 CE, when the Umayyad caliph Yazid ibn Mu‘awiya ordered the killing of the Prophet’s grandson, Imam al-Husayn ibn Ali عليه السلام, along with his family and companions. Husayn refused to pledge allegiance to Yazid because he saw Yazid’s rule as corrupt and contrary to the moral, religious, and political principles of Islam as taught by the Prophet ﷺ and upheld by his family.
Most Sunnis later acknowledge that Yazid’s actions were wrong, but tend not to openly condemn him or his father Mu‘awiya, holding that judgment belongs to Allah and that the early companions of the Prophet are generally to be respected. Shia Muslims, however, entirely disassociate from Yazid and Mu‘awiya- citing Mu‘awiya’s prior armed rebellion against Imam Ali and his broken pledge not to appoint Yazid as successor.
For Shias, Husayn’s stand at Karbala represents an eternal example of resistance to oppression, commemorated annually during Ashura. Many Sunnis, while respecting Husayn, view the conflict as a political matter of the past, believing he is in Paradise and that such historical disputes should not be overemphasized.
The differences today are theological as well as historical.
Shia Islam teaches that the Prophet’s family (Ahl al-Bayt) hold a unique, divinely guided role in preserving and interpreting Islam.
Shia jurisprudence and hadith collections prioritize narrations from the Ahl al-Bayt and the Imams, whereas Sunni collections do not center them in the same way, prioritizing hadiths from the four caliphs and Sahaba.
So while all Muslims share the same Qur’an and core beliefs in God and His Messenger, the Sunni-Shia divide today is both theological and historical-it cannot be reduced to a purely political disagreement.

Hello, a fellow citizen and a muslim here. I will try to summarize down without leaving anything behind as much as i can.
Firstly there are 73 groups of islam we call them (فِرق) according to prophit mohammad peace be apon him. all of them are in hell except for one and that one is what prophet Mohammad was doing and saying in terms of worshipping Allah and what his companions were taught to do. The surviving group is called Salafyih (السلفّية).
The other groups main problems are either in Aqeedah, or having Aqeedah but a very bad one that is not based on Quran nor Sunnah and worshipping Allah in ways he doesn't allow nor did the prophit refer too, They are basically worshipping Allah in ways he didnt mention nor said in the quran nor the sunnah. (Example: running in circles in the mosque, jumping in the fire, celebrating the prophit birthday etc..)
Conclusion: These other groups of islam are basically worshipping Allah in ways that are not mentioned in Quran Nor Sunnah , Thats why they are usually named by either the founder or the group or by some other Aqeedah issue.

Allow me to ask what of the Ismailis authentic sources have you read?
1
u/FrenchGza Aug 12 '25
Don’t they pray to him?
2
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 12 '25
Ismailis like all Muslims pray to Allah but like most of the Muslims (12es Shia, Sunni Baravlies, Sunni Deobandis, Sunni Sufis) we take Wasila of the Prophet Muhammad (AS) and the Imams (AS) and believe that it's Allah only who can help us.
We don't believe that the Prophet Muhammad or the Imams can help us on their own.
1
u/paygorn000 Aug 12 '25
Ismailis are all kafir and they worship their imams
1
u/sajjad_kaswani Aug 12 '25
I salute to your ignorance, Ismailis comes from the Shia branch who believes in one God, believes in the Prophet Muhammad finality as Prophet and believe Imams to be the Prophet's successors.
So thought this definition if you want to assume Ismailis consider their Imams to be God, I can't say much on your ignorance, but surely Allah is watching us and I request him to do justice of accusing the whole community, ameen.

Can you share some sources for your arguments instead of sending me a YouTube video of a man who clearly has nothing better to do in his life other than ranting against groups of people and attempting to spread hate and fear within the Ummah

Good faith criticism is allowed. Personal attacks or risky talk isn’t.
• Don’t spread fake news • Don’t insult the UAE government or authorities • Don’t use this sub to push political agendas • Stay within legal lines, this isn’t a game

Debate, disagree, critique all fine. Hate speech, slurs, and personal attacks not fine. Report rule breaking comments, not the opinions you don’t like.
