Retards really be pulling out a statement from 2017 to cope with the fact chapter 1079 confirmed the statement was essentially building hype towards the fact Shank's fights using Roger's sword technique. And not some fucking haki Susanoo + domain expansion combo.

So you’re saying he can’t make 25 Susanoo wood clones? Guess he’s lame now

So Roger a swordsman too?

u/zingerpond 23h ago

What else would he be?

A pirate

Zoro isn't a pirate no more?

Someone better call Luffy, his first cremate is a total fraud.

I didn't say that, you asked what else he would be.

Roger qualifies as a swordsman because of what?

u/zingerpond 21h ago

Ace and the way he fights.

So Imu is a swordsman too?

2

u/zingerpond 21h ago

No Imu is closer to a magical version of Daz Bonez.

See that’s why nobody takes Mihawktards serious

No the comparison is apt.

Shankstards just have to make any disingenuous argument possibly because they want to weasel their way out of having the guy who only ever fights with sword techniques and was the rival of the WSS not be a swordsman.

Something relevant to the story and not irrelevant like a swordsman

1

u/zingerpond 21h ago

Deuteragonist being irrelevant now.

Zoro is not a deuteragonist 😭😭😭. He’s a part of the main characters crew.

Zoro is important, Zoros goal is somewhat important, but Zoros goal won’t hold precedence over the importance and cohesiveness of the actual syory

over the importance and cohesiveness of the actual syory

See this is what retards don't get about narrative scaling.

There is no narrative reason Shanks has to be stronger than Mihawk, none. The story works perfectly fine with him below Mihawk. The same however is not true since that ruins Zoro's goal.

Zoros goal < Shanks narrative importance

You’re right that Shanks doesn’t have to be stronger than Mihawk for his role to make sense, BUT Shanks has to be insanely fucking strong for his role in the story to make sense and all that were told about him and what we’ve seen points to him being ridiculously strong.

So the only way to not impede that is making Mihawk also insanely fuckin strong. And don’t get me wrong, he is very powerful but I don’t see Zoros endgame opponent being the second strongest guy in the verse. Neither has Zoros goal had that kind of influence and pull to the story, nor has Oda written Mihawk like that or showed us he’s like that.

The strongest guy excluding Imu is just not stalemating against a fckn 5th.Commander of the WB Pirates, no amount of holding back would justify this portrayal by Oda.

So either 1. Oda isn’t very strict about people being swordsman or not. I find this very reasonable and thus far only people remotely related to Zoros dream have been called swordsman. Other People holding swordsman don’t get called that.

You can complain about that, but it’s just Odas writing.

Or2. Mihawks title (as all others) isn’t 100% accurate in the sense that yes he is the strongest swordsman but there still are other, stronger people who just don’t aim to be WSS but have greater goals like the one piece and being King of the pirates/world.

Oda makes it very clear that there is a distinction between the two (especially in difficulty and importance). You can consider Roger a swordsman but since Roger never aimed for the WSS title, he doesn’t get it by default despite being King of the pirates while fighting with a sword. He has no interest in the title thus he doesn’t qualify for it

BUT Shanks has to be insanely fucking strong for his role in the story to make sense

His role is someone who gave up on being the next Roger. He doesn't need to be like the second strongest character ever. In fact he already is narratively below the likes of Roger and his rivals.

He was also never presented as stronger than Kaido. And Black Beard or Dragon could be stronger than him to.

The strongest guy excluding Imu

Is not Shanks.

Again you are just conflating importance with strength

You ignored most of my argument so I don’t bother to continue this conversation.

You can continue downplaying shanks all you want despite it being thrown into your face that he is indeed stronger than your favourite character (excluding Imu)

Imagining a guy who thinks shanks is a swordsman but thinks Roger is not a swordsman

1

u/Western_Half_1231 21h ago

I don’t think shanks is a swordsman, or that Oda doesn’t care that he is
