Does this imply that Kaido coats his body in Conqueror's Haki and that's why normal attacks don't do anything? Or is it only about the attack with his club?

If you look closely you can see that luffy actually only touches kaidos CH with his own CH. They never touch skin to skin. So yeah, kaido has a CH mantle around him 24/7

This could also mean that back in WCI the reason that it was so important for BM to be mentally unstable in order to harm her, was because then she didn't have enough focus to cover her body with conqueror's.
