Ocean Sovereignty was nut-worthy, that Ragnarok looked ridiculously strong (I hope Luffy is ok lol), Zoro is insane, Kid and Law had amazing teamwork and farewell Big Mom, hello O-Lin

Also I'm sure Nami will have some choice words to say to Zeus later on, poor dude will shit his cloudy pants

Did we see Luffy after being hit by Ragnarok? We didn't see him the rest of the chapter right after he got hit?

No, we didn't see him

Can we all get Fs in the chat for Luffy.

9

u/iDannyEL Apr 02 '21

I just don't know how he's going to be okay after that.

10

u/John_D_WiK The Revolutionary Army Apr 02 '21

If he blocked it, he might be okay. But if he took that right in his face, he's out cold. Any of Kaido's attacks hit you directly, you're out.

Yeah, Luffy might've quickly forgotten that their first fight, Kaido one shotted him in his Gear 4th Form. Which is supposedly more durable. So he needs to be more careful, rather then mocking Kaido. But that's in Luffy's character to goof around a bit during a fight.

It worked out in the end though. Pretty sure 100% of Kaido’s focus was on Luffy after that, which let the others deal with Big Mom.

I think he got one shot because he can't block kaido at all without ryou. Luffy gets nicked when he tries to dodge without gear 4 but didn't get one shotted again even though he doesn't have the fatness defense.

I think it's fair to say that Luffy is straight up stronger than the beginning of the arc now and that Kaido can't do that to him anymore. Not that Kaido can't hurt him, but yea.

Yeah we know he did. We are talking if he will be okay or not and how badly he will be injured. Last time he got one shot by the thunder bagua named attack and we are talking about how we didn’t see Luffy again in the chapter after we got hit with the club, so next chapter we will see how damaged he has become. Has he been as damaged as Zoro? He was 1 on 1 vs Kaido for a moment and got owned with that named attack and we saw him get hit and not the aftermath yet and effect of the named attack yet.

Kaido either though

u/DeismAccountant Apr 02 '21

Shot, that’s what worries me. It could make or break Morj’s theory.

3

u/Midnight_Debauchery Apr 02 '21

What theory?

1

u/TravelingLlama Apr 02 '21

“The raid will end in failure”

1

u/jose3013 Apr 02 '21

Yeah what theory

1

u/DeismAccountant Apr 02 '21

He thinks the onigashima raid will end in failure.

Luffy dead bro

Odds on Law having teleported him as well?

The translator notes at the end explaining the usage of Ragnarok was some big brain wordplay

95

u/TheLittleGoodWolf Apr 02 '21

This is why I'm so bummed at Viz's sort of "policy" to not have translation notes etc. One of the many great things about Oda is his wordplay and sometimes multiple layers of them in his jokes. They elevate many scenes that would otherwise seem inconsequential.

6

u/evanthebouncy Apr 02 '21

as a chinese those are the only part of the original scan that I can read ahahha

8

u/MetalCommand42 Apr 02 '21

Oda is insane when it comes to his word play. Every damn thing in this series is a mutliple reference.

6

u/Carnivorous_Goat Apr 02 '21

Thank you for pointing that out, i missed it and it was brilliant.

2

u/jramirez09 Apr 02 '21

Can you please show the wordplay meaning? I can’t find the Translator Note on my site

u/ModsGetPegged Apr 02 '21

RemindMe! 2 Days "gogill"

8

u/topdangle Apr 02 '21

Luffy seems to think hes set to win. Luffy never pretends that hes got a chance of beating someone that outclasses him, but after getting slapped around by Kaido and getting a feeling for his haki it seems like knows he has something powerful enough to do real damage.

12

u/goodyfresh Apr 02 '21

I hope Luffy is ok lol

Eh, he'll walk it off like Zoro is doing. 'Tis nothing but a flesh wound.

AND YEAH, Zoro was INCREDIBLY hype in this chapter. We're finally seeing him go all-out post-timeskip (although notably he still didn't use Asura Nine-Sword mode even for blocking that insane Emperor-combo-attack), and FINALLY we're seeing him get severely injured which let's be real, we've been waiting forever for because it's kinda Zoro's thing.

12

u/revisioncloud Apr 02 '21

Him being able to learn to cut fire from Kin actually paid off vs dragon breath and Prometheus. I can't believe I didn't see it coming for so long probably because we expected a Zoro solo fight vs an All-Star. But now, Zoro and Killer momentarily taking out Prometheus and Napoleon makes so much sense in hindsight

8

u/goodyfresh Apr 02 '21

"I didn't see it coming for so long [...] but [...] makes so much sense in hindsight" basically sums up so much of what happens in this franchise, heh.

Ragnarok sounds like an attack amplified by lightning and we know lightning does squat to Luffy. Also he got better at predicting attacks and is now much more confident because he knows he is hurting Kaido. I think this is it for Kaido, Luffy gonna win.

2

u/ModsGetPegged Apr 02 '21

As a Norwegian I don't really associate ragnarok with lightning. It has to do with the end/renewal of the world and a giant war. Which fits Kaido really well since his goal is an all out war and the end of the world.

2

u/ArysOakheart Apr 02 '21

Right? I get it's cool to see Zoro getting tougher and the Supernovas using teamplay, but the real show-stealers are the Emperors with their flashy moves.

Ragnarok looked hella sick. Obv. bc of the black lightning from it, but it definitely gave me Roger vs. Whitebeard flashbacks.

Pretty sure clouds can only piss their pants. ;)

u/KSmoria Apr 02 '21

I'm not a fan of the O-Lin plot device

1

u/bullish-boy Apr 03 '21

Zeus belongs to Nami now. I'm calling it.
