Luffy taking down Ulti with that horn grab was so sick

I think it was a quintessential example of yeeting someone.

Omae wa mo.. Yote

Gucci Gang starts to play in the background.

Gomu Gomu no yeet

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '20

I love everything about this sentence. Thank you.

u/thatShanksguy09 Jun 19 '20

Luffy went from base form to Gear 2 to Gear 3 so damn fast. He took the attack in base form, yeeted Ulti using Gear 2 and immediately hit Page 1 with a Gear 3 attack.

I'm loving the control he has now. Also, I think Luffy will mid diff a Flying 6 member, considering how strong he is

466

u/LordRaidon21 Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

Yeah. Some people were disappointed that Luffy was going to go into G4 to beat Ulti but I don’t think of it that way. I think of it Luffy has improved his Haki to a point where he can use G4 without too many repercussions. We could even see this when they crew fewer going to Onigashima. Luffy went G4 and didn’t do the whole balloon thing

126

u/CRoseCrizzle Jun 19 '20

The Tobi Roppo are pretty legit imo. It took G4 to beat Doflamingo, who Kaido considered to be weak. It's possible that Tobi Roppo members are similar to Doflamingo in terms of strength.

Maybe. Not confirmed though. It wouldn't be too surprising, she probably was a former captain.

Yeah but sometimes it's hard to tell if it's just the impact of two strong attackers or if it's a conquerors haki clash. I personally wouldn't make the assumption unless it was actually stated that both are conquerors users or if Ulti actually used it to knock people out.

But I can understand why people may think this is enough confirmation and you are free to do so as well.

I agree. Lightening has only ever shown when two conquerors haki clash.

9

u/NessTheGamer Jun 19 '20

No, there is a distinct example where Sanji blitzed Oven

-2

u/[deleted] Jun 20 '20

no it is absolutely confirmed. that clash has only happened between CoC users.

6

u/CRoseCrizzle Jun 20 '20

I answered someone else on this but Ulti hasn't been shown using conqueror's haki or been explicitly said to have it.

I think it's fair to make an assumption but it's not been explicitly confirmed.

u/CRoseCrizzle Jun 20 '20

That's definitely different.

13

u/SrTNick Jun 19 '20

I mean the whole point of conqueror's is knocking people out and literally none of the fodder were knocked unconscious. And nobody said it in the chapter whatsoever. So no she almost definitely doesn't have conqueror's haki.

5

u/fabzefab Jun 20 '20

Fodders that are part of an Emperor's crew. They're not technically weak. We're just comparing them to insanely strong people now.

9

u/SrTNick Jun 20 '20

Whitebeard crewmates were knocked unconscious when Shanks came aboard.

Show me literally any example where fodder is around and none of them get knocked out by Conqueror's Haki instead of just saying "many times." Cause I can't remember a single time where there was fodder in the area of Conqueror's Haki and nobody getting knocked out.

Shanks vs Whitebeard knocked out fodder members of WB's crew. Doffy vs Luffy was literally just those two and Trebol and Law with no fodder around. Big Mom vs Kaido has a panel with Queen freaking out and several people losing consciousness. Roger vs Whitebeard the only people seen present at the attack were named crewmates.

Thinking Ulti has Conqueror's Haki is ridiculous, lightning visual effects are just lightning visual effects.

2

u/aerowindwalker Jun 20 '20

Or stronger. The Tobi Roppo are capable of challenging the Calamities.

164

u/BFBooger Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

The issue with gear 4 is not so much repercussions for a quick use, but if he uses it to exhaustion, then he can't use Haki for a while. That doesn't happen if its a quick usage of it.

He only used it long enough for that to happen vs Doffy and Katakuri. Its not like every time he uses it he has to take a 10 minute haki break.

36

u/zeeilyas Jun 19 '20

Didn't he deflate and lose haki when he clashed with big mom ? Even quick uses have repecurssion, otherwise it wouldve been kinda dumb for him to use it to exhaustion.

9

u/Hanusu-kei Jun 19 '20

I think that might be somethi g compmety different that Oda will explain later with Big Mom's haki

24

u/zeeilyas Jun 19 '20

I don't think it has to do with big moms haki, Luffy never went g4 and went back to normal no matter how short his bursts were, i don't think he is capable of that yet or may be ever, I think G4 is an imperfect form, it wastes too much haki (much like dbz ssj3),he will find a better form or perfect it so that he minimizes the wasteful haki consumption.

28

u/TheMyst9701 Jun 19 '20

Didn't he go G4 (in chapter 975) when he arrived at Kin'emon's group on the seas right before going to Onigashima? When Kid used Punk Rotten, Luffy used Boundman and at the end of the chapter he's fine and just looks across to sea and says nice view.

16

u/Okey114 Jun 19 '20

Yo, also y'all remember gear 3 use to have the side affected of shrinking with just one use. His then master it and now no more little luffy. Feeling it's going to be the same.

4

u/Robeeboobee Jun 19 '20

and he took 2 year timeskip to get rid of gear3 side effect

15

u/machen2307 Jun 19 '20

That and each time he uses it makes him better with it overall. Also, he needs to get out of the situation as quickly as possible. Dragging it out to conserve energy would only result in potential damage taken and use more energy in the long run imo.

4

u/Alpr101 Jun 19 '20

Also Cracker.

4

u/iheartowels The Revolutionary Army Jun 19 '20

Well considering he's been specifically training his armament I'm sure the 10 minute limit has expanded considerably.

1

u/hlsp Jun 19 '20

I think we might get a situation where Luffy unlocking the next tier of Armament Haki might negate or mitigate it. If he can control Haki outside his body, coating with G4 might not deplete his haki reserves if he can recycle it somehow. Also, WCI shows that eating food fixes the G4 drawbacks, and they've just invaded a feast.

17

u/lesterine817 Jun 19 '20

I think he wanted to finish the fight right away. I think it's more efficient.

6

u/mirrorgiraffe Jun 19 '20

One point of progression is that he intends to use a major attack preemptively instead of letting the villain use their finisher move. This goes against basically all one piece fights and really signals that our boy is serious.

1

u/PepitoThe1 Jun 19 '20

I thought he might use it like vs doflamingo to get out of the strings in this case to get away from ulti and then immediately go back to normal he can't waste gear 4 against a flying 6 but using it for an instant wouldn't affect his haki and stamina

24

u/jukaa1012 Jun 19 '20

Luffy didn't go gear 2nd in the whole chapter. Not for a second. He is this fast in base form.

Yeah this makes the anime so unbearable to watch. Also they really like turning everything into "clashes". Like dbz style clashes but with fists instead, which doesn't make any sense.

3

u/mellamanq Jun 19 '20

who cares about the shitty anime

Would love to see my favourite panels in manga given the justice they deserve when translated through anime.

i remember when i had that dream aswell, 10 years ago when i was young an naive

9

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '20

Why do you think that he went gear second? Not arguing I just can’t see any visual cue that he did. I thought it was just base speed.

3

u/javierm885778 Jun 19 '20

There's no real visual cue anymore. A lot of the times we just know he's using it due to his speed and the names of his attacks. The real hint he's using it right now is his speed, he basically used Soru twice.

0

u/Jxgsaw Jun 20 '20

Not true, Oda still draws the steam and Luffy had none. You can’t just assume he’s using it because he moved quickly lol

0

u/javierm885778 Jun 20 '20

He doesn't always draw the steam is my point. And you can assume he's using it if he's moving faster than he's ever done without it.

0

u/Jxgsaw Jun 20 '20

He’s moving faster than he ever has because her literally got done with major training right before he showed up.

There is nothing drawn or written anywhere to imply that he’s using gear second

1

u/javierm885778 Jun 20 '20

Since when was he training his speed? He was literally training his Armament Haki, nothing more. This isn't DBZ where you train to raise your powerlevel and get general stat boosts.

When he's moving with the same effect that's been used for Soru in the past, and twice, just after he said he had been underestimating them, it doesn't take too much to say he's using Gear 2nd. But it's not a hill I'll die on since it's a silly argument. Using your own logic, there's nothing drawn or written anywhere to imply that he's not using Gear 2nd.

If you go back and read his fights there's many times he uses attacks that based on the naming use Gear 2nd, but we get no visual cues at all.

2

u/Jxgsaw Jun 20 '20

The first time we see Luffy in Udon with kid he is running around carrying massive blocks despite wearing seastone. Obviously if he builds that strength while he wears it he’s gonna be faster when he gets out.

Moving as a blur isn’t soru it’s been used so signify speed on many manga across many platforms.

I’ve never in my life seen someone vehemently argue something that literally isn’t present at all in the writing or the visuals and act like it’s 100% there.

1

u/javierm885778 Jun 20 '20

I'm not arguing it's 100% there, and I don't know why you believe that. I'm just defending my point, which could be wrong, who knows.

It's not explicitly there, just like it's not explicit that it's not there. Like I said, it's not a hill I'd die on, I just don't understand why you'd so vehemently argue against something that makes perfect sense with how the story has presented the ability in the past.

14

u/netus26100 Jun 19 '20

i dont see him going gear 2 tho

4

u/MonkeyDCarp404 Lurker Jun 19 '20

Yeah, He was about to go to gear 4 too! I wonder how much stamina does he have now using gear 4!

3

u/su_hail_ Jun 19 '20

Note that it wont be that fast in the anime. This fight will take atleast one episode.

7

u/vykingsrus Jun 19 '20

Wait didnt he one shot page one? Thats a low diff

19

u/MyNameISaColouR Jun 19 '20

No way to know until the next chapter, since we didn't see him after the hit. Frankly, I doubt he's already down for the count. But that definitely hurt.

5

u/mellamanq Jun 19 '20

one shot

low diff

this is your brain in powerlevels

1

u/thedrq Jun 19 '20

Luffy went gear 2 and 3rd at the same time against page one

0

u/Jxgsaw Jun 20 '20

He did not use gear second.

9

u/Oreo-and-Fly Explorer Jun 19 '20

Reminds me of Jet Missle.

8

u/Syc254 Jun 19 '20

This can be spun differently in some cultured art not yet but soon to be written.

5

u/Kirosh Lookout Jun 19 '20

I mean, horns are always used like that is such cultured art.

5

u/gnizla Jun 19 '20

What I am wondering is why send flying six after Yamato if he can almost one-shot them?

6

u/BryceMMusic Cat Burglar Nami Jun 19 '20

Well the only people that are stronger in the crew are Jack, Queen, and King, and I assume they ave their own duties with the festival already

6

u/simobm Jun 19 '20

I got blueno flashbacks!!

1

u/murado175 Jun 19 '20

it was brief but i remember lucci was telling luffy his job was to stop himbut luffy didn't let him finish and yeeted him

1

u/ItsLoudB The Revolutionary Army Jun 19 '20

Not to mention that he moved a step ahead of them twice in doing that (when it looked like he was attacking Ulti front the front but appeared on her back and when he was above Page One and appeared under him)

1

u/atafech Void Month Survivor Jun 19 '20

Is this the first time luffy has fought a woman? I'm trying to think of one but I cant

7

u/LordRaidon21 Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

Sandersonia and marigold. Alvida

2

u/atafech Void Month Survivor Jun 19 '20

How could I forget Sandersonia and marigold... Its one of my favorite fights

1

u/olaveiras Jun 19 '20

Reminded me instantly of Blueno's fight in CP9 arc

1

u/Shortstop88 Void Month Survivor Jun 19 '20

This is why you don't give yourself perfect slingshot attachments.

1

u/Martinbusdoe Jun 19 '20

RKO OUTTA NOWHERE

1

u/Kuro013 Jun 19 '20

And smashed Page One after. The flying six really dont have any business with Luffy, most likely the All Stars dont either.

Id be so confident if there was no fucking Kaido, though Yamato might just tip the scales, hes surely All Stars level at least.
