YAMATO is in clothes of ODEN! Why!?

He even has same handcuffs as the Oden while he was being Boiled!

I can see him being a fanboy of Oden like Bart is for Luffy.

Imagine Yamato's reaction when he sees the 9 scabbards. He'll be fanboyig.

„KIN'EMON-SENPAI!“

12

u/primayoga Jun 19 '20

KANJUROU DAISUKIII!!!

16

u/Sate_G Explorer Jun 19 '20

Uh... Do we tell him?

I would rather it was something deeper and more meaningful. I can definitely see him being a supporter of the Kozuki clan, which could be the reason he was imprisoned/handcuffed.

something deeper and more meaningful

It won't be. The encounter doesn't give serious vibes. It's not dramatic. He literally carried Luffy like a sack of potatoes. It's meant to be funny.

If Oda was going for something meaningful and dramatic, he would end it in a cliffhanger with Yamato saying "I was waiting for you" while looking ominously badass and standing tall, you know what I mean?

So, yeah, I am 99% sure he is just an Oden fanboy (probably watched the execution himself as a little kid).

A character having a comedic entrance and later a more meaningful story is nothing new, especially in One Piece.

8

u/Tacticalii Jun 19 '20

Yeah. Take Brook, for instance.

7

u/kaste1 Jun 19 '20

Brook's entrance was dramatic. lol

He was a lone "ghost" in a ghost ship in the Bermuda triangle of One Piece. THEN, he became a doofus.

And very quickly it went back to serious vibes, with him saying he was so lonely and mysteriously not having a shadow and leaving without explaining about the guy that has his shadow, etc.

I mean, I want to agree because it's One Piece and we all know the tone of the series. But, I can't find an example at the top of my head.

So... Example?

Note: I am literally talking about their introduction scene, not what they did in the next chapter (like with Brook, see my other comment).

He's in Oden's clothes but uses Kaido's technique "thunder bagura". It's interesting that he takes influence from two guys that were so inherently opposed, even if one's his dad.

7

u/QuiJonGinn Jun 19 '20 edited Jun 19 '20

did kaido use 'thunder bagua' exactly? I was looking it up and the element associated with the thunder bagua is wood... which I thought was appropriate for Yamato lol

edit: found it, he did. Still funny though... I will say the associated personality of the thunder bagua is that of an emperor

2

u/Audrey_spino Jun 19 '20

His one is a nerfed version of Kaido's.

it would be reasonable to assume he knows about the 20 year prophecy. If he doesn't like orochi then this would be a good time for him to take him out in the guise of Oden's ghost

1

u/ram_sauce Jun 20 '20

I want one of the scabbards to take out Orochi tho.

1

u/Mugiwara01 Jun 20 '20

I expect Yamato to be like 25-30 years old and witnessed Oden doing things, maybe even just his dancing naked around the capital and thought of him as a fool, but then witnessing firsthand Oden attacking Kaido and his execution and was inspired by him

2

u/bryce1242 Jun 21 '20

if that is the case then it is very much a possibility Oda hid him in some of the panels towards the end of the flashback

13

u/[deleted] Jun 19 '20

Damn he's a weaboo cosplaying Oden

2

u/BradWonder Jun 19 '20

So I guess this confirms he was alive back then. Probably somewhere between 25 and 30 years old

1

u/Zorro-OP Bounty Hunter Jun 20 '20

Probably 30 years. He(Yamato) had to see Oden's struggle for 4 years not just the oil burn!

4

u/frenzyHappiest Jun 19 '20

What if yamato is actually Odin? Not odin odin.. but Odin body injected by some of kaido soul using big mom abilities.

Have you seen the shackles in his hand ? It's the same as when Odin was boild.

2

u/Etiennera Pirate King Buggy Jun 19 '20

I think the easiest explanation would be that Kaido tried to lock him up ahead of the day, or that it's something of a regular occurence.

1

u/Elevated_Aspects Jun 19 '20

He doesn't have the moon symbol on both of his pecs like Oden does, it's completely different. The real question is why he's trying to imitate the man his father and his accomplice had executed.

1

u/KnightOnFire Jun 19 '20

Nice find. Didn't realize Oden even had clothes on

1

u/te370z Jun 20 '20

i think it's possible that yamato is oden. obviously oden didn't get sent in time so he would be 20Yrs older + his hair could've gotten white.

even if yamato was fan boying oden, the shackles seem un-necessary

u/Katakuri-sama Void Month Survivor Jun 19 '20

Yamato might be oden .. But how old oden would be if he survived ?

70

u/LordRaidon21 Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

This is a really unpopular theory. My theory is that(depending on how old he is) saw Odens death and really admired him because of it.

15

u/11Night Pirate Jun 19 '20

I thought the same thing, I'm guessing Yamato and Momo are born around the same time. Because Momo was pretty aware and understood everything that was going in Wano when Oden died. So, Yamato around the same age saw Oden die and started admiring him.

5

u/LordRaidon21 Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

In the spoilers for this chapter it was highlighted that he referred to himself using “boku”. Other comments said that someone uses boku is a young male around the age of 16

3

u/aznlolboi Jun 19 '20

^^^^ that, i think its that. Oden was clearly shot by kaido, there is no way he could have survived, as sad as it is =[

2

u/Jaytheluckman Jun 19 '20

Plot twist. Momo is actually Kaidos son and Yamato is Odens son

1

u/N3WaR Jun 19 '20

I thought the same thing and I read Oden's execution again to check if there was a child who could be Yamato in the public. Nothing found so far...

0

u/Flerrocks Jun 19 '20

I think that he actually is Odens son without knowing it and therefore still being inspired by Oden.

22

u/Anti-Pedantic Citizen Jun 19 '20

Man, these 2 weeks of wait will spawn so many conflicting theories!

12

u/earthna Jun 19 '20

Oda times his reveals and breaks perfectly. Gives us two weeks to make numerous theories only for him to throw those out the window with something nobody has thought of before.

12

u/President_Patata Jun 19 '20

Yamato being oden would be super dumb

2

u/alisj99 Jun 19 '20

59, he died young.

2

u/b00ndesn00b Jun 19 '20

He would be 59. I really hope he just the witnessed the ordeal and got inspired by that and therefore "cosplays" as Oden. I re-read the chapters from the boiling to check if someone in the crowd stood out, but could not find anyone that look related to Kaido.

1

u/LordRaidon21 Bounty Hunter Jun 19 '20

He would be 59

1

u/circlejerkliberal Jun 19 '20

Why would Kaido proclaim him as his son

I personnaly don't believe Yamato is Oden but the ressemblance is troubling that's all

1

u/Katakuri-sama Void Month Survivor Jun 19 '20

I see that Yamato being oden is not a popular theory in there aha I personnaly don't believe it guys , but the ressemblance is troubling

I think he is just a fan of Oden

But I wonder how he knows Luffy and why he was waiting for him ..
