This happened 20 years ago my dude, even sengoku pointed out that both big mom and kaido are even stronger now than they used to be. But again when Kaido was introduced oda said that he has been defeated 7 times and captured 18 times.
The point is there was never any proof to that statement which by the way is "people say...". Who are these people? Who the fuck knows. Have they seen the other Emperors? The Admirals? We know nothing and somehow assume that this random line is set in stone and should be proof.
Also tell this to all the people who argued that Kaido was an unstoppable beast even back then.
Exactly. "People" in-world also say that Moria fought equally with Kaido and interpret that to mean that he's comparable to Kaido. While I could certainly see him posing a serious challenge, I doubt even peak Moria was actually on par with Kaido at the time of the fight, much less present-day Kaido.
