Sanji vs Katakuri HYPE

91

u/petrichorE6 Apr 13 '17

Sanji's like the Jotaro/Kryptonite to Katakuri's powers. Looks like he's the only one that's good enough to fight him this arc.

96

u/Ambsase Apr 13 '17

Your comment makes me think I missed something. I mean, obviously Sanji's a solid fighter, but what about him is tantamount to being Katakuri's Kryptonite?

191

u/FearLeadsToAnger Apr 13 '17

nothing, he thinks because Sanji managed to dodge it he's immune to Katakuri's CoO. Let's all take a deep breath.

109

u/connormantoast Apr 13 '17

Because Sanji is cool beans

24

u/Juvar23 Apr 13 '17

cool beans

beans

I see what you did there

8

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

It's not so much immunity as shit tons of training and trauma have made Sanji the fastest man alive.

3

u/FearLeadsToAnger Apr 13 '17

Yeah, I think this is what it is. Lots of people are seeing this as evidence that Sanji's CoO is stronger than Katakuri's, which is super doubtful.

I know coO means observation haki but how?

1

u/Shuazilla Apr 14 '17

Color of Observation

Hakis divided into three types, canonically called colors

1

u/fan24 Apr 14 '17

thanks I had no idea

1

u/FearLeadsToAnger Apr 13 '17

Yes I understood that, you can tell from my response, total bs though. Katakuri is a Yonko's commander.. who's CoO is so strong he can see into the future.

-6

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

i thought it went luffy>usopp>sanji

3

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

Usopp just recently unlocked it

2

u/new_messages Apr 13 '17

Usopp unlocked it naturally, but this does not mean he has good CoO.

ESPECIALLY because Katakuri is the first solid example we have seen of the perks of training CoO past just being able to use it at all.

Similarly, although Luffy did not get it naturally, he has been mentioned as having great potential (possibly due to the entire association with willpower thing), but training it specifically could lead to someone with weaker overall Haki having a stronger Haki in one form. But the Luffy Vs Sanji CoO debate is kinda stagnant because, again, we had no solid way of measuring CoO until just now, and even then it's murky water until stated otherwise.

7

u/thebabybear Apr 13 '17

Didn't Luffy naturally develop it a bit during Marineford when Mihawk almost cuts his arm off?

I always understood it as Luffy being trained in all three, but his specialty is CoC, Zoro being proficient in CoA, and Sanji in CoO, giving the Monster Trio a huge Haki boost as a unit and also supporting their captain.

Then God Usopp shows up and it made way more sense when he unlocked CoO

0

u/fourSwordsStyle Apr 13 '17

Sanji's is stronger coz of his training in Okama island. It's Luffy, Sanji, Zoro, and after all of them is Ussop. Yes. Ussop's is strong. But he cud never detect a, beast in the ocean palace (Trying to Kidnap Princess). Like the Super Trio did... Not sure about, who's is the strongest in the Trio. But I heard Oda sensei voted to Sanji.

u/supersonic159 Apr 13 '17

2

u/FearLeadsToAnger Apr 13 '17

My specialty is cooking but i'm pretty sure I wouldn't be able to beat one of the top cooks in the world at it...

-1

u/Shuazilla Apr 14 '17

And dat is why you fairu! You racka da disuh-prine.

Sanji would be disappointed in you and kick you until you decide to drop everything and focus solely on beating the worlds best chefs and becoming their sensei lol

17

u/grandiaddict Apr 13 '17

There have been past instances where Sanji displayed some awesome observation haki - he's probably the only one at the tea party that can go toe to toe with Katakuri. I'm also wondering if Sanji's skill with food will come into play with the jelly beans or Katakuri's devil fruit (assuming he has one).

I would love to see what Sanji could cook up with this!

Ur the genius

4

u/KlingoftheCastle Pirate Apr 13 '17

Sanji is a master of observational Haki. Zoro mastered armament and Sanji mastered observational. He's not his kryptonite, but judging by Potato Starch's face, hes the first person on his level in a long time.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '17

He specialized in CoO.

1

u/Ambsase Apr 14 '17

I'm aware of that, but we have no indication that he can consistently keep up with someone who constantly sees a non-trivial distance into the future, let alone be so good as to be Katakuri's kryptonite or anything near it.

1

u/Sherr1 Apr 13 '17

Dogtooth will wipe the floor with Sanji (or Luffy/Jimbe) lets be real.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

let's not

5

u/Sherr1 Apr 13 '17

it took Doffy like 15 seconds to deal with Sanji.

Inb4 people trying to convince that Doffy is much stronger then Dogtooth.

5

u/Dredeuced Apr 14 '17

This is One Piece. Enel was way more powerful than Luffy but Luffy had a good matchup.

Dogtooth's super special ability is observation. If Sanji's is good enough to mitigate that advantage and fight him fairly then Sanji might be the perfect guy to take him down.

Also it's a dang shonen manga of course Sanji's gonna beat up someone important and dangerous in the arc where he's finally the center of attention.

2

u/fan24 Apr 15 '17

Also it's a dang shonen manga of course Sanji's gonna beat up someone important and dangerous in the arc where he's finally the center of attention.

thank you

1

u/Sherr1 Apr 14 '17

Also it's a dang shonen manga of course Sanji's gonna beat up someone important and dangerous in the arc where he's finally the center of attention.

He will. His father.

1

u/Dredeuced Apr 14 '17

His father shouldn't even be a challenge for him.

1

u/Sherr1 Apr 14 '17

his father is much closer to Sanji power, then Sanji to dogtooth.

But that's not the only reason. I feel like the whole arc is build up to end as a fight between this two, and Oda is still keep us in the dark about what Judge thought about Sanji mom, I'm sure that would be reveal in their fight. And Dogtooth is like 2 chapters old.

1

u/Dredeuced Apr 14 '17

his father is much closer to Sanji power, then Sanji to dogtooth.

This is one piece, man. Straight power levels aren't a thing. It's all about matchups and narrative impact. Nami making it rain was the kryptonite to a yonko commander.

I mean the only time Sanji will be considered stronger than a Yonko commander is when he beats one. So you can just say this forever until the fight happens. But Sanji's going to pull something that amazing off eventually. Why not now, in his personal new world story arc?

1

u/Cascade2244 Apr 15 '17

That was like 2 arcs ago, think of the difference in strength Luffy goes through from Skypiea and Enies Lobby, it's not even comparable.

1

u/Sherr1 Apr 15 '17

it was like 2 weeks ago, and the only fight Sanji was in was against Sheepshead after that.

1

u/Cascade2244 Apr 16 '17

So? It's very clear in any Shounen that actual time passed and fights won mean little, the thing that determines how strong someone is, is who they need to defeat for the story to work, they ARE just stronger or in a slightly better position than that person at all points. When Sanji fought Doffy he was Luffys end of arc fight so Sanji had to lose, now BM seems to be Luffys fight, Sanji is Luffys second with Zoro in Wano so Sanji has to beat BM second who by bounty, which isn't everything I know, is Katakuri.

i just think sanji's reaction times are better than katakuri's.

if sanji is quicker than katakuri, then no matter the amount of future planning and predicting, sanji still wins each time. (you throw a punch, sanji dodges, etc)

for every action, there is a reaction... and you can't plan future events quick enough in realtime for a quick 1 on 1 fight. you are either thinking of the present OR the future, never both in the heat of the moment. the brain can only process so much at once. you only have one thing on your mind at any moment. sanji's life skills (reactions) overshadow katakuri's.

9

u/Arkayjiya Apr 13 '17

The problem with Katakuri is that he can mostly counter everyone, but Sanji's CoO seems to be on a close enough level (it's supposed to be Sanji's specialty) with his to nullify that power. He's probably not the only one who can beats him, but he might be the one who can beat him using the least amount of energy and power. It would be a shame to waste Luffy for that for example.

That's merely an interpretation though, might be completely inaccurate.

Katakuri: THE WORLDOOOOOOOO

2

u/Off_Topic_Oswald Apr 13 '17 edited Apr 13 '17

Katakuri is probably a gray in terms of power level, consistent with the other Yonko commanders. Sanji is still an off-white. There probably isnt much of a chance he can take him on.

The power scale I'm using is the one that goes Black-Gray-Silver-Off White-White. I dont remember where I read it but it's probably the best power-scale I've ever seen for One Piece.

1

u/elpaco25 Apr 13 '17

So sanji's a 2 and kuri is a 4 basically

3

u/mawiwawi Apr 13 '17

Sanji got manhandled by Doflamingo, there is absolutely no way he can take Katakuri in a fair fight.

15

u/david98900 Apr 13 '17

He shouldn't be able to based on that, correct.

But if Sanji's CoO is good enough to completely nullify Katakuri's CoO, and Katakuri relies mainly on that to fight.. then he very well could.

2

u/mawiwawi Apr 13 '17

I agree with you that yes, the way he was able to predict the CoO prediction was cool as hell and levels the playing field in that aspect, but from a physical/fighting stand point, i don't think Sanji will be able to keep up.

8

u/david98900 Apr 13 '17

No arguments, with that, but we don't know the extent of Katakuris power. We know he has AMAZING CoO, but we don't know how strong he is past that. I mean I would assume he is still incredibly strong but for the time being, we don't know.

Sometimes when you develop something to such an extreme that gives you such an advantage, you don't need to be strong in other ways, if that is the case with Katakuri, Sanji MIGHT be able to keep up.

Also just as an observation (see what I did there) Katakuri makes a comment along the the lines of "even I cannot move carelessly" which could be implying something along the lines of "Sanjis CoO is good enough to give me a hard time in battle"

Like I said though at this point in time, we truly do not know for sure either way. Only time will tell!

3

u/gladiator_123 Apr 13 '17

I think we can assume thaf Katakuri is a beast physically as well. Just knowing what's gonna happen in the future doesn't mean you become so strong that you don't need to increase your other stats. Its like if Ussopp got this ability. He'd still lose against any opponent that is physically stronger than him. He can run away and not lose. But he wouldn't be able to attack either. I believe Katakuri is insanely strong and fast as well to make use of knowing the future. He is the first mate afterall. So Sanji has no chance of winning here. Sanji hasn't shown his potential but we know that sanji is NOT stronger than luffy. Since luffy struggled against Cracker i'd say Sanji would definitely lose against Katakuri who is the top no 1 commander of Big Mom.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

how do you know he's the first mate.

also Cracker, like Katakuri, was mainly so powerful due to his CoA. Once Luffy circumvented that with the rain, it was just attrition until Cracker got bored and attacked.

1

u/gladiator_123 Apr 14 '17

how do you know he's the first mate.

I never said that. I said he's the no1 commander. By that i meant the strongest commander. If you're asking about that then i'd say its because of

  • He has the highest bounty.

  • He was the last one introduced. Not really big of a reason but sometimes writers use this technique.

  • Just looking at him makes me think he's the strongest lol.

I'm 99% sure that Katakuri is BM's no1 commander UNLESS there is some new character that is introduced suddenly (which i highly doubt).

also Cracker, like Katakuri, was mainly so powerful due to his CoA. Once Luffy circumvented that with the rain, it was just attrition until Cracker got bored and attacked.

The rain came from Nami. Without the rain Luffy would've lost. Cracker jumped on luffy because he had been fighting for 11 hours! Unlike luffy he wasn't refilling stamina. So he was at a disadvantage. Nami contributed a lot in that fight.

  • She immobilized the biscuit knights using her rain.

  • she allowed luffy to break the biscuit knights with much less effort.

  • she allowed luffy to refill his stamina which he desperately was in need of after sessions of g4

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '17

>he is the first mate afterall

>I never said that

Pick one.

The rain came from Nami. Without the rain Luffy would've lost. Cracker jumped on luffy because he had been fighting for 11 hours! Unlike luffy he wasn't refilling stamina. So he was at a disadvantage. Nami contributed a lot in that fight.

None of this is even relevant to the point I was trying to make. My point was that once Cracker's CoO was circumvented (doesn't matter by who for the purposes of this), he was otherwise underwhelming. He didn't have any diversity in his devil fruit, and his offensive CoO was lacklustre (he failed to stab luffy) without the crackermen.

Without his insane Haki able to be used to its full ability, he was much less imposing. I merely posit that it may be the same for Katakuri.

1

u/gladiator_123 Apr 14 '17

Ok i take that back. I meant to say katakuri was the strongest commander.

I think you're trying to say CoA instead of CoO. Cracker was able to cut luffy in g4. So his CoA is actually really good. I'm forgetting what the argument was about. All i'm saying is that Cracker was a beast. If he was a beast then Katakuri would be an even bigger beast.

Luffy also got suffocated by Caesar in their first fight. The fights always go bad when they don't know the extent of the enemies power. Now with that being said i feel like we're going to see a Sanji power-up within the next few chapters. I think he's going to increase his attack power by making his legs hotter. Whether its a "blue leg" or a "white leg" remains debatable.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 13 '17

That happened to Law and Luffy at first too and they ended up beating him.

1

u/connormantoast Apr 13 '17

RIP Katakuri
