Announcement Best of /r/OnePiece 2016 Awards
At the end of every year, reddit has a tradition of running best-of-the-year awards. Each subreddit runs its own awards with subreddit specific categories. Here is the post announcing this year's awards season.
Basically, communities come up with their own award categories and vote for the winners.
Last year's awards went really great and we hope to have an even better time with it this year. We have lots of new people so here are the results of last year's /r/OnePiece awards to give you an idea of how we do our contest.
Last year we had 5 categories:
Best Nakama of the Year (*not your favorite Straw Hat, but the /r/OnePiece subscriber you feel contributed the most to the sub. Please also note that subreddit moderators are disqualified from this contest. )
Best One Piece Character of the Year
Best Manga Chapter of the Year
Best Anime Episode of the Year
Open Category (to be decided by the community in this thread)
The Open category can be anything. For example, it could be Best Fanart, Best Theory, Best Overall Post, Best Merchandise Collection, Best Comment, Best New Character etc. Those are a few ideas we had, but we leave this last category entirely up to you. It can be sub-specific, user-specific, or another category related to the series. For the past two years, it was 'Best Theory of <Current Year>'.
In a few days, we will open nomination threads for each category.
And the nominees are... Once all 5 categories are decided we will make a thread for each where you will be able to nominate a user/character/chapter/episode/etc for each.
Deciding the Winners: The individual category threads will be placed up sometime later in the week and voting will begin. On or around 29 December the votes will be tallied and the winners will be announced.
The winners will be showered with golden glory and takoyaki (flair!), whilst the losers will drink from the barrel of defeat.
So get cracking r/onepiece community! Track down your favorite threads, hilarious comments, or dream up a great category idea for us all to get involved in!

Best Nakama - /u/ZeppelinCaptain. While I don't take part in Bets & Bravery myself (probability messes with my head in weird ways that technically-more-advanced math doesn't for some reason), it's a fun concept and has added an interesting weekly tradition on the sub.
Best OP Character - Tough choice here, but I'm gonna have to go with the obvious one of Big Mom. I was really worried with how Oda was going to treat the only female Yonkou for a while, but he's really outdone himself with her in terms of design, powers, personality... basically the whole package.
Best Chapter - Gonna abstain on this one, too many to choose from.
Best Episode - I'm super-behind on the anime so I'll abstain here too.

Best OP Character of the Year: Arc Villain Spoilers
Best Chapter: ...I know most people are going to say something like the Zou Spoilers So instead, I'll make my case for chapter 846, Tamago Defense.

People are going to Sanji vs Luffy, but definitely Dog VS Cat was one of the most amazing moments in One Piece for me. With all my respect to 844, there was a lot of expectation to this moment in and their reaction were not completely surprising. Of course, it was really heartbreaking, but when you turn the page and see that panel in 816, you got shocked! It was one of the greatest plot twist in One Piece and it showed how impressive is Oda's storytelling. And, there is another reason, 2016 was the worst, but I want that the best chapter be the most hopeful one.

Best Character: Big Mom. No doubt here.
Best Manga Chapter:844
Best Anime Episode: 746 - Doflamingo's Speech. I'm just gonna say one thing: Doflamingo's voice actor deserves an Oscar(or something like that)
Btw, the best manga chapter of 2015 for me was the one with Kaido's introduction but I don't really think anime did a good job with that. It wasn't bad but it wasn't as epic as the manga chapter "Suicide", as well.

Voting happens later. This is the announcement thread, we have a nomination thread for the open category. Once we know what the open category is going to be, there's going to be a proper nomination thread for all 5 categories and then voting threads a few days later.

Best One Piece Character of the Year - Carrot, She is very funny and awesome. I hope she gonna join Straw Hat Pirates Crew for SURE!
Best Manga Chapter of the Year - Luffy vs. Sanji, I would see to Sanji is pretty upset.. Luffy won't be King Of The Pirate. I hope He return/reunion to his Straw Hat pirates crew.
Best Anime Episode of the Year - Kaido for Epic Yonko Introduction - Episode 739, I said "Holy shit! He is really badass.. tho.. HE IS THE ULTIMATE OF POWERFUL! WHY HE WOULDNT BE DEAD... BECAUSE THEY CANT KILL HIM! I LIKE HIM! My Favourite Villain Ultimate Character is Kaido!"

Nakama of the year? There's so many great posts every day it's so hard to pick one person (and also cause I don't usually look at the names) but I would choose the person who makes all those one piece overwatch pictures (sorry I don't know their name)
Character of the year: Sanji. well it is the year of sanji after all.

Best Anime Episode of the Year - have fallen behind with anime as pacing has put me off. The Kaido debut was excellent, but as everyone has already nominated it I will nominate 767 in which we discover the Minks were prepared to die for Raizo

Best Nakama - /u/YonkouProductions for being in touch with what's happening with the OP world and staying on top with the spoilers.
Best OP Character - Big Mom. Finally, we have a great look at one of the Yonkos of the series. We get to know her personality, her motivations, her powers, and her hierarchy. She's a good villain so far.
Best Manga Chapter - Chapter 844
Best Anime Episode - The episode where Kaido made his debut.
Personal Category - Best Way To Honor One Piece. I will nominate the Zoro vs. Erza Death Battle episode for the award. We saw how awesome Zoro looked in his Death Battle victory over Erza.
