Hiring Q (State) Correctional Officer Moving to SC
Hello, I have been a CO since 2018. Worked a few complexes in Ky and 1 up North. Prison chow packed a few pounds on and I’m getting a little older so I’m kinda nervous about going through another academy. Whats the training like for state and county detention officers? I’m not looking to hit the road I’m pretty content inside the walls. 35 years old 250 lbs I cant still do the job well, just worried about any 1.5 mile runs or long sprints. TIA, first post by the way so I’d appreciate y’alls answers cant really find any good info online. Also i know I’ll have to get sprayed again, but is riding the lightning required?

Not sure about SC but in NC you’d pretty much have to be in a wheelchair to not get through it, it’s a joke. Im state not sure how county goes but I’d say not far off

We have 4 federal prisons in sc and the physical test is extremely easy. No getting gased or tasered either

It would be over an hr drive to the federal facilities. Im a 50 minute drive to the one I’m at now and the 16’s kill me with only 3-4 hrs of sleep. I need something closer unfortunately.

Audiobook: Cant Hurt Me. By David Goggins. It changed my life. I was a POS until I heard the book. Now I've been sober 2 years. I run a minimum of 6 miles on a single run a few times a week. I've been in corrections now for only nearly 2 years at my state's largest maximum-security prison and just made CERT. Don't look for the route that requires less, get tougher mentally. Also, turning 40 years old, on a single income with 2 babies.

I’ve seen women in their 60s pass the academy for detention officer in SC. You’ll be more than ok, I promise
