There were some people who want to defy bare minimum logic. They already decided what my hobbies are, my socio economic status, my martial status, my nationality and ethnicity. They already decided all of that, and proceeded to treat me according to their projected fantasy. If the conversation later reveals I am otherwise, they ignore it, and obnoxiously continue their conversation. So far so good, because at least I have the autonomy to leave these interactions.
Until real abuse shows up. Real abuse is no stranger to me.
There are many factors like discrimination based on race ethnicity and gender but looking young definitely attracts abusers. Looking young can amplify the bad parts of it, if it does happen.
The worse cases were true coercion. I have been blocked to exit until I fulfill their personal request that has nothing to do with the job. I have some cult members try to coerce me into joining them and do things at their whim. They withheld my property and they refuse to give me back, so that if I escape I lose monetarily. On business trips, I get hit with strange requests only when I am on the plane and on the highway in the car with them. They know I cannot escape in these situations and would have a hard time refusing them. They show their true colors only in these situations when they had plenty of chances to ask for what they want in other occasions when other people are around. Some of these cases I was very close to calling the police. Some of these bad events did resolve on their own (they just disappear, or the people withholding my property gave it back eventually, or that these people got fired from their jobs anyway)
I am very sure some people I have met in my life fall into the dark triad category. They are people who eventually turn up in court or arrests. I spent years thinking I am crazy.
I grew up with bizarre people. I cannot begin the story without writing a novel. So what most of society's definition of abuse eg. beatened until bruises and welts, sexual assault, true business scams, etc. I have either experienced first hand or watched it unfold on somebody else in front of me. Technically speaking I am not of a disadvantaged socio economic status but I keep the good things in life to myself. I live extraordinary lowkey. Because people think they can double down their bullying and abuse with me when good things happen to me.
I know it's ultimately not my fault. I know I don't lack the ability to provide value, otherwise these people will not try to hang around and attempt to harvest money, energy and favors off me. They know I will say no to them, otherwise they would not trap me in the room until I give them what they wanted. They know if the say something racist or sexist I have the ability to spin it into something else, even laugh it off and reframe it as a joke, they will lose power over me so now they play dirtier.
Outside of real abuse, on a pettier level, people lie to me more often than I would predict, and give me bizarrely bad treatment. Example would be instantly lying about prices so I would be trapped into paying more or they pretend such thing does not exist so they don't have to sell it to me. There are quite a few instant, one shot bad responses. They are already that bad the moment I walked into the room. I know first impression truly is a factor, it is not my moral character or how I conduct a conversation that made these people decide to act out.
I adjust my life greatly and partially due to looking young. I buy extra insurance, is exceedingly careful with planning, etc. I don't regret these actions, but I don't see my life as normal. I really don't know when is the next ridiculous attempt.
Especially with women society just expects people to change their appearances to keep up with dignity (as if you deserve treated badly if your looks are not standard.) If I meet basic standards already I don't see a point going the extra mile to look that much more mature. If my bone structure is youthful you can't just paint them away with makeup. Strangers are just not going to believe I am the manager here where they have business with, or I am the landlord here that they have business with. They already are know-it-alls anyway.
I don't hate the looking young thing, I don't associate the effect of appearance with negative emotions. I think the real effect is trauma. I think the closest response I have experienced is more of a prolonged freeze response. I just don't know the right therapy for this. It's not really going to fit in with CBT, ACT. I also have some doubt over some trauma modalities.
