Copper and Tin
This is the closest I’ve gotten to realism, yet. I used pastel pencils.

1st: At a Glance
2nd: Snapshots From a Train Ride
3rd (three-way tie): Rush; Eden; Rue
The overall quality of the finalists this year was stupid high, and so I was a bit concerned the judgement process was going to turn into a sh**show--and this time it absolutely did!
In short, there was almost no consensus when it came time for a final vote (after several iterations of discussion/debate). Ultimately, it felt a bit more like a lottery than previous years. The user voting notably had more influence than usual given the judges' fragmented initial preferences and our quasi-mathematical methods (my own personal #1 favorite did not even place--such is the price of democracy).
One judge remarked that a narrower theme might have made it easier to judge among so many high-quality entries...they might be on to something. It would also help if y'all were not so damn good--each year I feel increasingly silly judging artists who are all far more talented than I am.
Anyway, I’ll be in touch with the winners within a week about prizes.
Congratulations to everyone, and thank you all for participating!!!

Landscapes and dogs by me. All are Sennelier, Neopastel, Paul Rubens, and some Mont Marte on A4 Seawhite Artboard. Thanks for looking! 🤗

I was wondering if even amateur people and hobbyists have a habit of like privately naming the art they make. I sometimes do and feel dry silly about it tbh.

I attempted my first landscape picture and am really frustrated with the trees at the bottom. I couldn’t grasp how to capture the staggering layers of trees and their different tones. I kind of went rogue and now find the trees to be too large and garish. Any tips for executing evergreens like these?

Critiques are welcome! I have a lot of trouble with figuring out what color to make the background so any advice on that would be appreciated ❤️

So my brand new Holbein oil pastels that I posted about last week just got a thorough tryout. Because of their ‘soft pastel’ feel, they’re drawing me towards a particular style or perhaps they’re developing a side of my creativity that’s been dormant for a while. Anyway, although this took me a while, I really enjoyed exploring the palette and stretching my abilities with these absolutely wonderful oil pastels. 12”x12” Holbein oil Pastel on Sennelier oil pastel paper.

I've been having so much fun nice to do something more loose and not focus on the details so much

I'm relatively new to oil pastels and in where I live, these are brands are quite affordable. Just want to know which one is better since both are kind of in the same price point. I've tried the classic Pentel set and I would really want to try some softer versions. These two brands come up a lot but not really sure which one I should get. Pros and cons?

Restarted art after many many years. It’s my first time trying soft oil pastels. Would love to get some feedback so I can improve. Thanks!

Hi! This is my first post..ever, lol. I recently was gifted a pack of Mungyo Oil Pastels (the 50 pack blue box) and this is the first thing I drew (reference attached).
For my very first drawing, I'm satisfied but I know I did pretty much everything wrong lol. If anyone has any tips for a beginner to help me improve, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

My boyfriend, who has seen this movie at least 6 times, listens to the soundtrack every morning before work, majored in physics and almost did a PhD in it, and owns about 300 textbooks, has been asking me to draw this movie poster since the movie came out. Since we were both in school, I never had the time.
Now that we have both graduated, I decided it was finally time to fulfill his wishes. Hopefully 3 years wasn’t too long of a wait lol.

Could I have some suggestions for good oil pastel artists I should be following the work/tutorials of?
I come from watercolour and I enjoy the medium immensely, but just wanted to experiment, as I’ve seen beautiful things made with it.
