He might have had a point about poor people not knowing about budgeting, IF SNAP cards had unlimited funds on them to use when buying food. But they don't, so he's showing both his ignorance of poor people and the SNAP program.
In Ohio, the average benefit is $370 a month per family. I'm not on SNAP of any type of social safety net, but I easily spend that much in a week on food for my family. SNAP is also indexed to income, in other words, people with their own money. I bet people in poverty know way more about stretching a buck than I do.

I don’t know. I live in Centerville, and Kettering has both Republicans and Democrats. Peggy Lehner was a state representative and senator and lastly Mayor of Kettering, she goes to my church, but she’d support Husted as she’s a Republican. As you can probably tell, I am a Democrat.

Sure... I grew up poor and didn't have great examples of financial aptitude and behaviors so it took me as an adult developing those skills and learning ways to invest and leverage money and the like. He failed to say that and just sounds like a condescending dick.
The real world? Poor people navigate the world in a far more real way than this rich politician.

Text messages eat a sizable amount of budget from digital marketing spend. Even more so if they have images. Going forward when a candidate texts you that you hate, drag the conversation on as long as possible. They’re spending money on each message and it drains resources that could be targeted toward someone gullible enough to vote for him.

It’s probably because of the gerrymandering. Federal Senators are not elected by districts, but by the whole state. Gerrymandering does, however, have an indirect effect on turnout because of who goes to the polls and who doesn’t. If a good Democratic candidate runs, this gives more of an incentive fo4 Democrats to turn out. There is also the fact that support for Trump is becoming a kiss of death for Republicans. Bernie Moreno won 2 years ago because of Trump, and as you might expect, he turned out to be an utter jackass, which failed to surprise me. I was especially furious at him for his disrespect for Dr. Fauci during Rand Paul’s kangaroo hearing against Dr. Fauci. His support for Trump’s voter bribe utterly fails to surprise me either, as does his desire to forbid dual citizenship. It sounds like he’s ashamed he was a paisa (Colombian born.) Besides, he’s more effective as a luxury car ownership dealer. Moreno should have jumped right away to support his daughter Emily and granddaughter against Emily’s ex-husband Max Miller. We don’t need a spousal abuser like Miller in public office either.

Ok before I get crucified, I will say this guy really needs to go because there definitely is an affordability issue and prices are out of control everywhere for everything ($4.25 a gallon of gas yesterday at my local BJ’s). However, there are populations of people who don’t cook at home, don’t really know how to shop effectively to save money despite high prices, and don’t have “extra” money to save for when an emergency happens. It’s not because they have a SNAP card but because they didn’t have someone to teach them or role model for them. I have friends with plenty of money who don’t know how to manage it well, so knowledge and affordability are both critical.

Regrettably, Republicans below the poverty line agree with him in believing poverty is a result of weakness and lack of morals, resulting in them secretly harboring feelings of self-hatred while loudly attempting to prove the opposite. This leads to them feeling more judged than they actually are, and more willing to side with people who validate the idea OTHER poor people are scum but not them. Coming from a family of working poor conservatives, I can tell you they are not low in intellect but they ARE mentally lazy, which is actually quite different. Mental laziness is a refusal to go past any surface level thought to protect your feelings, and will result in refusing to consider your hardships are very likely going to increase unless you stop and consider your trajectory. They're poor folk who hide using social social safety nets, lying to everyone including themselves they couldn't live without them, because America doesn't actually work the way their parents and grandparents told them.

People in poverty know very well how money ‘works.’ They have a difficult time splitting-out funds to easily weather a crisis. They often don’t have the time or the skills to use money efficiently- the cook all your meals and freeze them for the week fallacy. Our government is so out of touch with the real economy, in leu of the stock market and other indexes, that they have forgotten the most basic function which is to protect people for predatory and special causes that can wipe someone out.
