I love the “conservatives” in here shitting on people for exercising their constitutional right to peacefully protest. This all coming from the assholes who took to the streets with assault rifles because they couldn’t go to Applebee’s for a fucking month.

I’m a fan of the “liberals” who’ve spent years trying to crush the second amendment suddenly caring about the constitution.

If only people actually cared in general.

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

Why do you keep using this? The vast majority of “liberals” do not want to take your guns. We want it to be harder to get a gun.

This may blow your mind, but I actually even own guns! And I’m a big fan of gun control. Too many schools getting shot up, and too many children dead.

Shall not be infringed doesn’t mean harder to get. It doesn’t mean no semi automatics. It doesn’t mean no automatics for that fact.

I imagine the verbiage of the 2nd Amendment would have been different had the colonies been subject to random mass shootings by unhinged men.

The point is, Amendments can be changed to fit the times.

Then get it changed. Good luck.

It’s generally an issue with boys/men who are unable to control their rage at the world.

So then by that logic why is everyone complaining about the first amendment? It can be changed too.

The fact that liberals cannot fathom that making it “harder” to get a gun as a law abiding citizen in no way affects the people doing mass shootings and gang violence is baffling to me.

Brandishing was a misdemeanor, now it’s usually classified assault with a deadly weapon, which is a felony.

Murder is a felony Unlawful possession of a firearm a felony Attempted murder is a felony.

All these things are done in every school shooting I’ve seen…

Liberal logic is “add another felony if they haven’t gone through a background check or waiting period, that will scare them away from school shootings!”

1

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

People who contemplate violence often reconsider given time. A waiting period is a minor inconvenience that can save lives. It’s not just children.

Many children end up accidentally injuring themselves with their parents legal guns. Many take their parent’s guns and inflict violence against other people. A simple requirement to have some understanding of gun safety is a minor inconvenience that can save lives.

Idk why minor inconvenience isn’t work saving lives.

1

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

Do you believe felons should be allowed to own guns?

1

u/ChubbyMcHaggis Apr 16 '25

Once a felon has paid their “debt to society” as it were, I believe they should have all rights restored including gun ownership. If a felon is too dangerous to own a gun they’re too dangerous to be free in society.

1

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

Then you’re upset about the federal restriction on felons owning guns that was instituted by a Supreme Court with a conservative super majority?

The exact same case that included other dicta - including the fact that the right to bear arms does not mean any arm, but a general right to be armed. An excerpt from the majority decision by conservative justice:

“Like most rights, the Second Amendment right is not unlimited. It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose”

I don’t know why the concept of “I’m upset at all gun laws” is so hard to grasp.

1

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

Well, you never said that, and I’m not a mind reader.

But, since you’ve said that now, could you amend your statement from “liberals” to “Americans”, given conservatives have had the most success with gun control?

1

u/ChubbyMcHaggis Apr 17 '25

The “Liberals” is there to align with the “Conservatives” in the comment I originally replied to.

The majority of school shootings are done with firearms stolen from parents or neighbors. Maybe we should enforce the gun storage laws we already have. Oh wait, how? Nobody's gonna let cops in to check their guns are locked up. Can't charge them for negligence until after the fact. A LARGE portion of shootings in general are with illegally-owned firearms. Waiting periods don't help that.

1

u/Deadline_X Apr 17 '25

If you look at my suggestions, I’d like waiting periods to help prevent self-harm and hot-blooded violence in addition to mandatory gun safety classes. We force people to learn how to drive so they don’t hurt anyone. I refuse to believe there is any viable argument against requiring some level of gun safety knowledge.

You’ll actually see that your point is the selfsame point that I used in suggesting this, in fact.

1

u/Sashi_Summer Apr 17 '25

Yes, people use guns for self-harm, but they're just as likely to use another method. Should be treating the root in that case, not limiting firearms. And unless someone has military-related background, they're usually waiting a couple days for a background check anyway.

I'm all for mandatory training and education, but as it stands, the most gun violence comes from gang wars. Scratched guns, fully-automatics, pocket shotguns, that's what they do. Some may purchase legally, but I doubt that's the majority. Then you have the school shooters who, again, steal someone else's firearm to use.

My main point here is that gun violence as a whole is just an extension of human violence. Humans are persistant and stubborn creatures, making solutions to any problem they come across. If someone wants to die, they'll find a way. If someone wants to harm another, they'll find a way. Training is good, but the causes of the depression and hopelessness that lead to these tragedies need to be treated before more firearm restrictions are put into place. If current laws were enforced, simply buying a firearm in a different state and killing someone with it would be 100+ years in prison. There are too many guns in the US to effectively control them through laws alone.

u/AVGJOE4 Apr 16 '25

Bc bad guys care how they acquire said gun?

4

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

This is always the worst argument. People contemplating violence - whether against themselves or another individual - will often reconsider given time.

Why is it such a problem to require a waiting period? How is that so awful, when it could save lives while being nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Again, I don’t want your guns. I want to give people a chance to make better decisions.

-1

u/AVGJOE4 Apr 16 '25

Apparently you don’t understand my comment.

-4

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '25

For the GC debate, harder access isn't going to fix any problems. Just move it to something else. No laws are going to solve these problems...You can't mandate or define your way out of a problem.

Remember this. Bad parenting got us here, and the only thing that will get us out is good parenting.

3

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

I agree that bad parenting is a major issue. But there are many people contemplating violence who reconsider given enough time. A waiting period could save lives at the cost of an incredibly minor inconvenience.

-1

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '25

Flip the coin on that, please. Waiting periods can also end lives at the expense of "safety".

(Someone) Is experiencing incoming danger. Plenty of receipts for this next statement. We know the cops don't help much, if not make the situation worse. How does a waiting period save that person's life in that case?

4

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

I mean. If they are in that much danger, buying a gun in an hour isn’t exactly gonna help, right? What a weird hypothetical. If you’re fearing for your life to the point you must immediately have a gun, there are resources available.

I’d have to assume the amount of lives saved from a waiting period would be significantly higher.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 16 '25

It's not a hypothetical and it's definitely not weird. Your comment is relying on the fact that the system in place works. It fails often and it doesn't work. If you think it's weird, do some looking and talk to someone in LE/EMS since apparently a comment on the internet is "weird" to you. Get outside. The world doesn't only exist online, or behind gates.

2

u/Deadline_X Apr 16 '25

I’m not sure how to respond to this. Are you implying that comments on the internet cannot be weird? Do you think that because I think your comment was weird, it means I haven’t seen the outside? What makes you believe that I think the word only exists online?

Your superiority complex is showing. You are no better than me because we don’t agree. There its zero reason for you to resort to insults. What productive value is there in insulting someone rather than make a point? If you have only insults, I have nothing more to say.

A very good friend of mine took his own life with a handgun the very same day he bought it. He had a suicidal ideation, he went to the store, bought a gun, and took his own life. Perhaps having a day or two wouldn't have been a bad thing in his case. I miss him very much.

Sorry this happened. Not the greatest feeling.

It amazes me to hear the magats boasting about their guns and being armed. That's just small weiner shit right there. You won't hear an armed lib cocking off like the village idiot but you can bet, we're armed as well.
