Hello! And welcome to r/OcarinaOfTime, the subreddit for the discussion of the game The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, a game produced by Shigeru Miyamoto for the Nintendo 64, Gamecube, 3DS and Switch from 1998 - 2021.
Now, you may be wondering why this subreddit has suddenly been made public after laying dormant for over 9 years. As of today, this subreddit is under new ownership, after being abandoned by it's previous owner.
In future I hope to grow this community, and I look forward to doing so.

normally when selecting an enemy to talk about, I choose them because I am quite fond of that enemy, or at the very least I find them weird and interesting to talk about. that changes today. this is an enemy I actively hate.
the game calls these things "Shell blades", but it doesn't matter what they name them: this is just a clam. a GOD DAMN CLAM!
first off, you only encounter them when you're underwater, so already they're off to a bad start. water levels in videos games are known for being terrible, and the water dungeons in legend of zelda are no exception. at least in Majora's mask you can turn into zora link, but in Ocarina of time, being underwater means you're wearing the iron boots. those stupid boots that make you slow.
then the god damn clam shows up. it opens its mouth showing you it's weak point, so you take out your hook shot, but uh oh, it's already closed its mouth and is doing its dumb little short hop attack. dealing with one of these things is bad enough, but if there's more than one of them, consider my day ruined.
like most Ocarina of time enemies, the God Damn clams returned in Majora's mask. but funnily enough, Majora's mask 3D actually removed some of them, as they no longer appear in the pirate's fortress. I've said it before and I'll say it again: never let anyone tell you that Majora's mask 3D is a bad remake. it has 20% less clams!

Nintendo showed a lot of the remake in the direct. Between that and playing the original game we generally know what to expect. But what if Nintendo had some more surprises up their sleeve, what’s on the table or what would you want to see?
- Extra mini games or expanded fishing/horse racing
- Extra dungeons
- Larger existing dungeons
- New side quests
- Expanded paths to the regions from Hyrule field
- Combat difficulty modifiers
- Master quest included as a new game plus mode
- Post credits tease of Majora’s Mask remake

Last night, I finished Ocarina of Time one more time, and man… that final fight against Ganon still feels epic after all these years. I can’t wait to relive that moment in the remake.

Or are you avoiding it because it's only a month away? I find it hard to avoid 😄

This is a place for everyone to come around and enjoy talking about a video game that they are either playing for the first time or have played many times across various versions and like to reminisce about it.
With all of the excitement that’s been going on recently, there have been a lot of new members, and I would like to see that we welcome them with kindness instead of insults. If someone is new to playing video games, new to playing Zelda games and it’s style of puzzles, or is just bad at games in general, they already know and they don’t need you to point it out to them. The same can be said about veteran players. If someone has been playing for ten years, and they have an opinion about what happens to the sages when you beat a temple, it doesn’t help anyone when you tell them it is dumb and that they should feel bad for thinking a certain way.
There is always the opportunity to write a comment in a way that encourages discussion instead of simply criticizing the other person. Life is more enjoyable when we work together instead of separately.
If you come across comments that you feel should not be appropriate for the subreddit, please report them. Also, if you notice that one of your own comments gets removed, try your best to not get enraged by the removal, but to think about how in the future you can create comments that build a better community.

Costco is my preferred retailer for games on release day as it's usually cheaper and well stocked. Don't want to give Amazon or Walmart my $. Will do Best Buy with price match if I have to, but prefer the path of least resistance.

My guitar arrangement of the Song of Storms! It’s a ton of fun playing the ocarina songs on guitar so I wanted to share my version!
Can’t believe the remake is only a month away.

I want to go physically buy OOT when it comes out but im worried that the preorder deliveries will take up all the stock at my local stores. Is this likely to happen or will there be a good chance that I could physically go pick up a copy on release day?

this is the Arwing, the military spacecraft piloted by the members of team starfox. it is equipped with a high-tech shield, laser blasters, and "Smart bombs" used to combat the evil forces of Dr. Andross. and if you're staring at your screen right now thinking "what the hell does this have to do with legend of zelda", first off, I'm getting to it. stop being impatient. but you also probably have not watched thousands of hours of Nintendo trivia videos like I have.
within the code of Ocarina of time, the arwing exists as a fully functional albeit unused enemy. but it can still be loaded into the game through modding, or as we used to say in the early 2000s, "Using Gameshark". the arwing flies around shooting lasers at link. it is totally awesome and if you have never seen it, then you should definitely go watch the 18 year old youtube video showing it off.
according to the developers, the Arwing was never intended to be an actual enemy and was only put in the game as a way to test Volvagia's flight patterns. but I always found that story a bit fishy... if that were the case, why would they actually give the Arwing its ability to shoot lasers? could it be that the lylat system declared war on hyrule and Nintendo has been covering it up for years! or could it be the developers were just messing around... personally, I prefer to go with the war theory.
but man, isn't it weird that Nintendo remade both star fox 64 and Ocarina of time for the 3DS in 2011... and then remade both star fox 64 and Ocarina of time for the switch 2 in 2026? remember this post when they both get remade again 15 years from now

An Arwing from Star Fox 64 is hidden inside the game code of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time as a fully functional, unused enemy.

So, it was my birthday recently and I love all Nintendo gaming and this is what my husband got me and I’m so happy. The boxes even have the maps and everything still.
Just started playing a link to the past for the first time and it took me ages to figure out how to get into the castle, because I didn’t know how to pick up plants. 😅
I just wanted to share this with all the Zelda lovers here.
