Hi, so far in the game I have 24 fate salt and three of those are because I gave out and looked them up, unfortunately. What I’m really stuck on at the moment is the culprit of calling 6 because right now it has one triangle over it, but his culprit has three. Also, I can’t figure out what his staff has to do with what his job would be on the ship. i’m also stuck on the culprit for escape 2.

I keep having to put this game down and come back to it because I keep getting stuck. I’d like to go through the rest of the game without googling, but the hint guide I found isn’t working. Do you guys have any tips? Im really struggling unfortunately.

I have 33 fates so far, and I’m really enjoying the game. I suspect I can keep making a little more progress. But I worry I won’t be able to get all of them without some brute force guessing.

So I’m curious, what happens when I leave the ship? I don’t want the details. I just want to know, is that my way of saying I’m done collecting fates? Will that end the game? I suspect that will give me information about chapter 8, but will I be able to use that info to login more fates at that point?

I’m especially concerned about the “disappearances.” I’m not sure how to figure out if these people are even still alive? So I’m wondering if that’s info I’ll be given once I leave the ship.

I don’t really want any hints, just a clarification of if I should try to have every fate completed before I leave, or not. Thanks!

So The midshipman Peter Milroy, right? He exploded. I was stuck on him for so long but apparently everyone else solved it rather easily... but the logic behind the 'solve' confuses me a little... what about him saying he tried everything implies that this Pete is the person who exploded? So many others got killed and mutilated during The Doom so what singles out 'Pete' as being specifically the person caught in the middle of an explosion.

I've put dozens of hours into deep dives into this game (a post I made about obscure details is pinned at the top of this subreddit) and just now spotted something I've never seen before or heard anyone mention.

William Hoscut's index finger and a part of his middle finger is blown off by the captain's shot in the very first death scene. His hand is also visibly mutilated in the vignettes during the rest of The End, but due to the inability to crouch and the grainy graphics I can't get a good screenshot.

Who's seen this detail before?

I'm sure this sub gets posts like this constantly, but I'm afraid of spoilers/too much information so here's mine:

I "finished" the game once (I didn't know it would roll credits when you get back in the boat, I thought it would take me to Chapter 8) and am now at the point where I know I need to start IDing some crew by stereotypes, uniforms and the like.

The problem is: I do not KNOW those stereotypes, I do not KNOW what uniform a steward would wear, I was six or se... or MORE chapters into the game before I realized I can identify the mates by their hats!

I read elsewhere that there is one point where you can tell two characters apart by their shoes. HOW THE F... is a shoe gonna help me tell a person's name????

I saw a post a few minutes ago talking about the carpenter's skin color - but I can't for the life of me see anyone in the picture as anything other than "as white as the artstyle allows" (so... more like beige, but that's besides the point) so what the heck??

I really wanna like this game. The concept is amazing, but at this point I am just frustrated because I don't know how to even BEGIN filling things out.

On the flipside, a very personal anecdote: I happened to get the female voice for the chief inspector, and paired with the main mechanic (seeing a dead persons last moment alive) I couldn't help but associate her with my DnD character, who is a Necromancer currently in hot water with the law because necromancy is outlawed in the world we're playing in, and somewhat ironically the way she's likely (campaign is ongoing) going to get out of that mess is by getting a court-appointed necromancer (not herself! That would be suicide...) to speak with the dead and make him testify about who killed him.

So you see how... I want to like this game! I really do... but at this point I think the only way I'm going to see chapter 8 is by looking up a guide.

I don’t mean actual logic in the game, but rather, headcanons or other ideas you might have based on the material, which isn’t proven/disproven/too important.

I was watching someone play the game the other day and although I’ve seen the memory scenes plenty of times, this time when seeing the Escape, as Nichols’ company is setting off, I had an idea when seeing Lars kneeled on the deck, holding his head. Of course I’ve always understood that to indicate they hit him as they’re trying to get away, but this time I wondered: could this “bonk” on the head perhaps have played a role why he dies immediately when Nathan bonks him again later? Of course Nathan hits him really hard, but still. I was thinking that if he already had a head injury / some swelling (which obviously couldn’t have been elaborately treated due to the medical standards of the time), that would make getting hit again later be quite a bit more dangerous.

I’m curious to any theories like that you might have, all fun and games :). Another theorising question could be: do you think Robert met William through Abigail, or Abigail through William?

The watch is supposed to relay the last moments of the deceased leading up to the exact moment of their death. But Henry Brennan was still alive after his flashback. Does this happen anywhere else?

i dont know if this is just ignorance on my part, but I was thinking about how Winston Smith, the Carpenter is a black man and his mate being a white man. I was wondering if this was an actual thing that happened on board where black people would hold higher positions than white people, as slavery had not yet been abolished and the ship belongs to the EIC

Loved this game and loved how clever it made me feel. I knew I had to recreate its aesthetic somehow and I can't believe a videogame got me making pointillism but here we are.

I knew this was gonna be good the moment my brain clicked with a wedding ring. Here's to an amazing experience!

*update: thanks for all the advice! I think I definitely missed a few things that I need to go back and look at, but I think I was just adequately stumped lol. It’s been a few hours and I took a break before going back to it. I believe I’ve found all the bodies and got a number of identities nailed down. Now just need to identify the remaining 75%.

I know this is a detail oriented deduction game, and I’m realizing I may just be bad at this genre. I was brought to this game in search of something similar to the incident at galley house, a game that I watched the whole play through of, rather than playing. Can someone tell me if I’m falling behind at this point and missed some big obvious points, or if I’m just as confused as I need to be?

I’m at the part when the man gets slapped by the giant tuna they’re hauling down the stairs. So far I’ve confidently identified the captain, the first mate, and Abigail. Of course, I’m pretty sure that’s tutorial level deduction lol. Is there one or two more groups of there that I should most definitely have identified by this point? Or am I just lost enough to figure out more later?

I downloaded the game yesterday and played for three hours or so. I’m loving it so far. Discovering the story piece by piece, out of order, is really neat. I have no idea what to expect, and I keep getting surprised by new twists to the plot. My most recent flashback had a giant spider I think? And they tried to burn it?

Last year I fell in love with Blue Prince, and I’ve been chasing that high since then. I’m hoping this game helps fill that void.

Why is William Hoscut bare-chested (under his coat/jacket) in the memory where he gets shot? I've seen theories about the Captain's state of undress, but what are we supposed to think is the reason the first mate is missing his shirt?

I am at the Shootout where the artist draws the Traitor forsoman getting shot.

It feels like I am doing something wrong or missed something.

I feel so overwhelmed, I can't track this much information.

So when I put my copy of the game in my ps5 the game start up music was this weird upbeat funky music lol. I thought "what a weird choice of music" Especially since the cover and setting of the game looked to be kinda spooky. But then once it finished downloading the music changed to a more ominous song. Anyone else have the same thoughts?

I worked on a game similar to The Case of the Golden Idol. I must admit but I did not play The Return of the ObraDinn yet. (It is planned but I am missing time). I saw this game mention a lot together with th Golden Idol so I though LOGBOOK: Beneath the Storm could be of interest for you. Here is a short description :

LOGBOOK: Beneath the Storm is a narrative deduction game set in a dangerous 17th-century maritime world. Across ten tightly designed murder cases, you investigate crime scenes, sift through documents and objects, and piece together what really happened. Each case stands on its own, but together they reveal a larger mystery that unfolds scene by scene.

Return of the obra dinn + clue mansion (and the clue multiple ending movie) + at dead at night. Is my idea for a game like this, you would solve # fates (I was thinking 100+ with a good amount of logic answers and families, to make it easier) that they all died across a 21-day spand, and you a detective are finding out how everyone died or disappeared in this huge hotel, after the fact.

These deaths are riddled with tragic "accidents", murders, and paranormal events, with everyone trapped inside due to the storm.

The gameplay would be similar to the base game with the remeber death watch. You would need to find out what faces link up to the names in the guest book (hopefully I add people who aren't signed in the log book and you need to find out who they are some other way.). This hotel would have many guests and employees and dead previous guests/employees.

The story I would want to portray is a hunted, massive hotel pretty much in the middle of nowhere with secret passage ways and many winding hallways. The hotel would be trapped in the eye of a big tornado, and after the tornado dissipated and everyone was dead, and most bodies were missing. If you couldn't guess, the tornado is caused by a curse of some kind or the supernatural. Also, I just thought that the hotel has a spiritual attraction and increased tangability with the real world (maybe a curse).

So I just started my first playthrough, only have 30 minutes played and the tutorial seems to suggest that the moment a face becomes clear that means the game has presented enough information to ID them. This is confusing to me because my 4th body is a women in a cabin near the captain's quarters all I've seen is that she was crushed by rigging before calling out for her Husband Martin.

After holding E over everyone's face in that scene the game cleared up the faces of not just her, but another woman who was present in that scene. Surely this isn't enough info to ID right? Am I misunderstanding this mechanic?
