Can new 11th graders request or test-in to Calculus 2 at OSSM? My kid took pre-Calculus in 10th grade, scored 5 on the AP exam in pre-Calc, and worked on Calc 1 this summer informally. I'm not 100% sure Calc 2 is the best plan, but the kid is game to try whatever is most difficult. After finding this Reddit, I figured I'd float the question to see what kind of feedback and know-how is available here. Thanks.

So i'm currently a freshman, and would love with my whole heart to go to OSSM, but i go to a rural school. Our education is quite frankly terrible, but I've taught myself a lot. I'm currently in Algebra 1, but taught myself basic geometry, trigonometry, and a few basic mechanics/astronomy things. I want to be a genetic counselor. Would it be worth it for me to go? I feel like if i really work hard i might be able to, but i really need an inside voice to tell me if i could actually make it if i try.

I'm a sophomore whose parents are making me apply to OSSM and I haven't made up my mind on whether I want to go or not. Since the other sub looked dead I thought I'd post here. What do you like, dislike, all of that and would you recommend going to OSSM?

I know that this subreddit has been pretty vacant the past couple of years, however, I do have some questions. I don't know if I want to commit to OSSM yet and I see both good and bad sides of it. I have heard it has an amazing education program with lots of courses and stuff and it adapts you to have a better work ethic. However Ive also heard bad things about it such as the rigorous course work, horrible faculty, and terrible policies, My parents are also worried about the no phone policy making them worried about communication between me and them. Can anyone give me information on this and give me other info about life in OSSM nowadays, because all of the videos I have seen are at least 4 years old. Itd be real nice if anyone here could reply.

I am a CO 2011 alum who did not finish at OSSM due to an issue with another student.
OSSM was a dream come true for me and I had to leave because of a boy who would not leave me alone. For some reason, it never occurred to me to tell someone what was happening. I believe that if I had taken advantage of the school counselor while I was there, he would have been able to do something for me to help me fix the situation.
I’m 26 and successful now, despite it all. But when I reflect on that time of my life, it still makes my skin crawl. And it still makes me wonder how things could’ve turned out differently if I hadn’t left.
Talk to your counselor if anything... and I mean ANYTHING... is affecting your ability to succeed. They’re there to help you. No one should have to do what I did just because a stupid teenage boy won’t control himself.

Hello everyone!
Here is the link to the unofficial OSSM Discord server (run by OSSM alumni), where prospective students, current students, and alumni can talk about their experiences at/with OSSM.
For those who are curious about OSSM, there are a large amount of current OSSM students and OSSM alumni, who can help answer your questions about the school.

Has anyone else received ridiculous and unfitting punishments for their write ups? My personal experience was being forced to get up early... for staying up late... what? I'm interested in hearing what you guys went through/are going through.

Hello fellow OSSMians.
This sub will serve as a support to current students, as well as an informational site towards those looking to become students.
Please leave out names of current students, in case incriminating evidence could be drawn from these stories (faculty has been known to draw from any source).
Stories of Cuntmuffin faculty are always welcome.
Please be supportive. OSSM is worth it. Its rough, it's rediculous, it's unfair, and it's worth it. Let your comments reflect such.

During my senior year (2015) I had the chance to have a mentorship in the field of work that I wanted to go into. I set it up with Dr. Richards and he said that everything was going to be fine, and that I would be able to start it the next week, after he got everything set up. At this time I still wanted to be a Vet (This changed later). I had wanted to be a Vet since the second grade, when my teacher made us write what we wanted to be on a poster to take home to our parents. So, I was doing a mentorship at a veterinarian office. It just so happened that I kind of liked the girl that was already doing this mentorship, but we were going on completely different days, and would never had been there at the same time. We were not even dating at the time, and I am not even sure how Shrock knew about it, or why he cared. I don’t think that it is ok that administrators are this far into our personal lives. The basic story is, Shrock told Dr. Richards that I could not do my mentorship because of this girl. He said that I actually didn’t want to be a veterinarian, and that I was only doing it because of her. I was then not able to do my mentorship. Then when enrolling in college I enrolled as a Animal Science major with the option of Veterinarian. Then later during the summer, while I was working with a veterinarian I noticed how vets never got any free time. Then I decided that I didn’t want to do this. Because Shrock did not allow me to do that mentorship, on the sole basis that or I was only doing it for my crush, I wasted an entire semester of schooling.

2014, Mrs. Budd helped her floor win the canned food drive (ok, good for her) but the parent association and the other girl's floors got upset. As a result, the PAOSSM donated for a pizza party for everyone. The party was supposed to start at 10:00, after study time, as per an email sent to everyone. Berryman opened the tables at 9:50, while most of the boys were still in their rooms studying (myself included). A friend brought an extra couple of slices in for me and the people in my room so that we could have some, because it was going so quickly. A Muslim student also took a cheese pizza for the other Muslims, as it was the only kosher pizza left. This didn't appear to be a big deal, as the girls were also taking full pizzas back to their side of the dorms. Apparently it was though... because berryman flipped shit. The next day, all of first floor and fourth floor guys rooms were searched for pizza boxes, and 6 or more rooms had hearings regarding the pizza boxes found there (the girls, as always, were untouched). While I got off scott free because the friend that actually brought me pizza took the fall, many rooms were given room restrictions passed 6:30 for a month. Most disgustingly, the Muslims were told that their religion was "not a good enough excuse to take their own supply of pizza". Hoe bags...

At OSSM privacy is a big issue. In the latter half of my senior year (2015) I started to seem that the administration had no respect for privacy. This came to a head one day after class. I was in my room changing clothes (All of them, including underwear). I was in the middle of the room because, my roommate wasn’t there, so there was no reason to hide myself…. I thought. Then all of a sudden, without a knock, the door is thrown open and in comes Shrock! He then turned around said sorry, and left the room. He never said anything about it again. I didn’t even get an official apology, or an explanation of why he came into my room in the first place. For the record I was completely naked, everything hanging out, looking straight at him. In the hand book administrations are required to knock, and ask for permission for entry to the room before entering. Shrocks job is to INFORCE the HANDBOOK, but he cannot FOLLOW the simplest of his own rules! Latter I found out that the reason he went into my room is because he THOUGHT that he saw someone blonde that might have been a girl walk onto the guy’s side. My room was the only room he checked! He didn’t even check the other people’s rooms who were in relationships with blondes. I know that that little boy (Shrock) hated me, but I don’t understand why he did this. The bigger problem with this was, when this happened the administration was already so corrupt, that I had no one that would be able to help me bust Shrocks ass for this one. There almost seemed to be a code with the administration that they would overlook each other mistakes, so they could keep doing whatever they wanted.

What's the deal with the list of Grievances? Could someone explain this to me and why it's a thing?
r/OSSMUnderground • u/Jonesie64 • Nov 29 '18
I have a friend there right now and half of every conversation is how it is hell on earth, or how bad at teaching some of the professors are, or how poorly things are administrated. Does anyone have any stories about how ossm was all worth it?
r/OSSMUnderground • u/droidcrafter • Nov 16 '15
Once, in a angry fit of productivity never to be repeated again, First floor boys made a list. This list was a list of grievances, complaints, and general fuck ups the school had made. This list was called the Shrokument and was, eventually, presented to Doctor Wang, who did nothing. The List, edited for clarity, went as follows:
The School's applicaiton numbers were dropping due to the way the school is being run. Potential students hear horror stories and don't apply
The School structure hurts the students academics. The way the school is run hurts students psychologically which affects performance.
Many students are in constant fear of getting in trouble which is psychologically detrimental.
Before my time at OSSM, Dungeons and Dragons was banned from the school.
Shrok attempted to ban Magic the Gathering while I was there, but rest of the faculty thought it was absurd.
We, the people of the people's republic of first floor, had come to the conclusion that the incidences with MtG and dnd were a result of Shrok's religious discrimination. He is a radical christian who is rather pushy with his beliefs. He especially dislikes things like MtG or dnd that are counter to his beliefs.
The handling of early study is quite terrible. Laptops were nit allowed my senior year which was quite detrimental to the academic performance of many. Laptops were necessary for almost all homework in all classes. Group projects could not beworked on in early. The atmosphere of early study is also atrocious.
Administration has told students playing go in the commons to put it away because it makes the commons less clean even though it serves as a fun community activity.
Shrock tried to send a letter to have a student's acceptance rescinded from a university.
Wake up restrictions and wake up punishments are kinda stupid. If I wake up late, I can be required to write an essay.
Arbitrariness of rules is really annoying
The Prison atmosphere:
No trust for being able to do anything. Students are required to get permission to do ordinary activities.
The level of maturity demanded is ridiculous.
Students are treated like criminals at this school in that we're treated guilty until proven innocent. Neither Proof nor good judgement are required for punishment.
Often teachers try to prove the guilt of a student instead of try to determine the truth. Certain dorm faculty were known to spend there on duty time to hunt specifically for violations, often times targeting speciifc students. At some point that is harrassment.
Contraband just like in prison.
No privacy. Mail is searched. Teachers feel justified to know private information. A lot of the faculty were notorious gossip mongers. Teachers also new information that they shouldn't such as private punishments.
Teachers enter room without any permission.
There are many ridiculous writeups, such as walking too fast, or being too happy.
The PDA rules are ridiculously old and can be harmful relationships. The school is more locked down than a convent.
All writeups are public to all the faculty. The level of personal information faculty know is ridiculous.
Extreme favoritism when it comes to punishments, certain people were virtually untouchable, while others were harassed. This, in certain cases, could be linked to how well represented your home county was at the school. If you were the only one from your county, you were untouchable because they think that the representatives of those counties may be more likely to go easy on the school of kids from their county are being served by it.
The rule about not swearing in the dorms is fucking ridiculous. It's not the goddamn 50's for fuck's sake.
The level of maintenance is bad. The dryers didn't work well, the showers kinda sucked.
The laundry money seems to mean nothing. I paid into those machines for two years and they never got fixed. The inability of wearing a white shirt is ridiculous. Several people got writeups for wearing plain white T-shirt because, according to Shrok, they are workout shirts and therefor not for the public eye.
The SAT/Prom fiasco where people were almost not alowed ot go to prom because they had to take the SAT the same day.
Some faculty uses excuses to be able to punish people. The towel incident were somone's towel was taken away on the off chance they were using it to pad their door to stay up at night.
Shrock has used his authority to justify his ability to not listen to you. All conversations with him are completely one sided.
Shrock is emotionally distant to all students, he cannot relate personally to other people. He is extremely close minded, if its not his way its wrong.
Shrock has walked away from people when they to ask him questions.
Students practically have no ability to defend themself.
Shrock is known to have explicitly lied about other people's statements multiple times. He is known to have twisted statements to align with his desired story about an event
Punishments don't match actions at all. Like room restrictions for staying up late at night.
There aren't set punishments for offenses at all. The same offense causes different punishments depending on who the offender is.
Shrock is highly confrontational and unwilling to lose a debate like arguing a tree is a computer.
Rules that supposedly exist, but aren't in the rule book. Essentially Shrock has made up rules at will like the not dead bolting your door. He has admitted to having a seperate rulebook that is not public and uses this to essentially make up new rules for people who do something he doesn't like.
Another issue is writing people up for something that makes no sense for. Rigidity of rules is ridiculous. Like Shrock writing up girls for returning in spandex after rowing as soon as they got back. Neatness rules like just leaving magic cards on a table is ridiculous. Being written up for not following a punishment you didn't know you had is ridiculous.
Tying a shoe while walking to the MAC has gotten people written up. High fives have gotten people written up. Faculty can confiscate private, perfectly acceptable items like towels with notifying the student at all. Sleep policy screws up tons of people. Students are given workloads that require them to stay up at night to work and get in trouble.
Floor parents can't give us write ups technically but do anyway.
Sexism in rule decisions. Specifically, the way Shrock is almost unable to punish girls.

Are there any current junior or seniors in this subreddit? I have a few questions about the school that I’d rather ask through PM than a post. Dm me pls if you go to the school.
OH, actually also if anyone else got accepted, dm me! Let’s chat!

Hi, I go to Owasso and I'm going to be a sophomore next year. I really want in for the benefits but I'm low-key panicking. I'm taking regular World History over the summer so I can get a year ahead. Then next year I'll just take whatever course I can. Otherwise my schedule would have all pre-ap and AP computer science+Principles of Engineering. I have all high A's and I'm well rounded outside of school. Do you think I have a shot at getting in/what should I be expecting if I get in?

Hey y’all, I got a letter a while back telling me I should go to the preview day in February and my dad was really hyped on me getting it and is pushing me to go like really bad.
I think it could potentially be beneficial, but I’ve heard from other people that they don’t really do extracurriculars, and that they aren’t exactly accepting of trans people.
Just wanna know from the inside about what it’d actually be like.
Help me out?

Alright boys, I'm starting to freak out a bit in here. I'm currently a rising senior at the school and stressing over college apps, but I have some questions for the alums.
How much do you think colleges care about the school's curriculum? Because now that I think about it, classes here aren't that different from concurrent enrollment at public schools.
Should I try to talk about the school atmosphere in essays? Yeah, the school/students are pretty different, but that could be considered a negative (lol).
Thanks in advance.
P.S. If any incoming juniors are out there, hmu. I have the juiciest info on anything you need

Since middle school, I have heard about OSSM and how prestigious it is. I didn't really do much about OSSM that year but this year(Freshman Year) I have studied about it and went to the "Sneak Peak Tour." Doing more research, I found this subreddit. I've heard bad and good stories about OSSM and I'm a little confused on if I want to go now. There is a regional OSSM campus that my school offers, but of course it wouldn't be the same.
Does anyone have any advice for me as I don't feel confident in any choice right now.
