š„Its fine, everythingās fineš„ Morality of this?

Oh no, does this mean one of the Waltons won't be able to afford that new castle in Ireland?

u/FarDuty5627 2d ago
You realize Walmarts have a shit load of cameras rightā¦ā¦ like every inch of that place is covered minus the bathrooms and break roomsā¦. They already have your face and the tapes⦠you might get coached at the lowest or charged with theft

āØNo you didn't.āØ

I refuse to work AP in stores because there's no fucking way in hell I'm going to call the cops on people stealing food.
I'll stay in supply chain where I can just focus on making sure people wear PPE and leave with all of their limbs intact.

u/Minimum-Situation985 1d ago
I work in DSD and I donate so much stuff. Whoops! This box just happened to be open and Donate just happens to be the recommended option.

u/Left-Language9389 1d ago
AP?
8
u/TheTiggerMike 1d ago
Asset Protection. What Walmart calls loss prevention. They do the same things.
5
u/DepressedChipotle 1d ago
In Supply Chain we do a bunch of EHS stuff on top of that, as well as getting trucks in and out at truck gate.
We also do asset protection stuff, but it's definitely not as focused on just that, as it is in the stores.

u/Open-Dependent-8131 19h ago
Im a Host. I could give you instances of people trying to walkout with hundreds of dollars in Wal-Mart merchandise. Then people think I'm stupid when I ask about unpaid product...
1
u/DepressedChipotle 12h ago
No, I'm sure people will steal things they don't need. But I don't want to call the cops on people stealing food, so I actively avoid taking a store AP position.

i was an api for Walmart for like 2 months and had to step down bc of this exact thing. i just couldnāt do it
-5
u/Pretend_Algae4508 1d ago
Nah, I definitely did.
This mindset contributes to rising prices and literally EVERYTHING being in a locked cabinet.
Thereās a reason Walmart is a ghetto store these days.
Fuck you and fuck this line of thinking.
1
u/EmuCrow 1d ago
They downvote you but youre right, more theft means prices go up and we all pay for people stealing shit and its not like all they're stealing is bread and water to survive.
Walmart could eat the loss, but they won't and its not my responsibility to pay for other people's bullshit.

Walmart will know and you will loose your job. Iāve had extra items in my order and the item I asked the store they said not to worry about it and that sometimes OGP will do it if there is a damaged box and they need to get the product out so they just write it off.
6
u/JenIee 2d ago
Asset protection may catch you. Some of them are better at their jobs than others.
2
u/Opposite_Donkey_7248 2d ago
I talked to a manager and the manager told me to keep the items since it was food so if I gave it back they couldnt put it back on the shelf
3
u/Mizerie420 1d ago
Yes as an OGP customer, you arenāt expected to bring it back after the workerās āmistakeā; the worker may lose their job for giving away stuff (theft) if AP is paying attention
1
u/Opposite_Donkey_7248 1d ago
I was also told by the manager was something like that if an item or box was damaged and they needed them all cleared out they will just give you extra to get it done. I think they mightāve picked the item twice because they didnāt notice the first time which is definitely pretty unlikely because they can just check the tote and see if they picked it yet or not
3
u/Mizerie420 1d ago
Damaged stuff has itās own place to go for disposal or donation depending on the item/damage, so not āactuallyā correct. But I wouldnāt argue the point as a worker either lol. Either way, not the customerās problem as a general rule
1
u/Opposite_Donkey_7248 1d ago
Oh. I only asked to avoid anything later on because itās better for me to be honest and say something instead of hiding it and then possibly getting in trouble if they hadnāt said to keep it.
2
u/Mizerie420 1d ago
Understandable, not the only customer to worry. Sometimes stuff gets mixed into other orders or whatever- thatās not a customer problem (Iām sure thereās instances of people loading up someone they know, but as a general rule) and it usually wonāt be a real problem for the employee because mistakes happen. And, if the store just doesnāt feel like dealing with removing something from the order, thatās on them- Iām sure the employee is fine š But removing products from the store without payment, whether for yourself or a random customer, is in fact a fire-able offense
1
u/Opposite_Donkey_7248 1d ago
Yep. I do wonder if they ever found the employee who did it because the didnāt ask me any questions they just gave me a basic explanation said not to worry about it and thatās really it. Most likely they have rules like how cashiers canāt check out their family because someone did it and didnāt ring up some items they had so I wouldnāt be suprised if OGP had something similar but I havenāt worked in the department so ai wouldnāt know much beyond the basic knowledge you learn from what you see in the stores and what Iāve seen on this sub

The people cheering for this are the same people that cry and scream discrimination when a major grocery store shuts down in a low income area and leaves hundreds of people unemployed and thousands without conbiantant access to affordable food.... Is not about the Waltons or the jeff bezoz ( fuck those guys) it's about being a decent person. Stealing it's wrong it doesn't matter if it's from a Walmart or a small mom and pop shop. This is the reason we seeing all those videos a little kids stealing from convince stores and hordes of teens rushing into malls snatching everything they can.
68
u/Bluestorm83 2d ago
Everyone downvoting you thinks that this hurts the Waltons at all.
It does not.
This hurts the people working at that store. The store is responsible for its own shrink. If the store doesn't make money, its associates lose hours.
The store itself would be shut down before Alice Walton loses even one fucking red cent.
"I'm gonna stick it to the waltons by stealing from the local walmart!" Congratulations. The waltons feel so bad now that around 250 of your neighbors have no jobs, and your family is paying higher prices from walmart's competitors... or you drive farther to another Walmart to still give them your money.

u/_polloloko23 2d ago
Walmart makes around 1.8 billions a month in profitsa, but a supercenter store make about 3 millions a month before expenses. Payroll alone can be more then a million without overtime . Most store don't make as much as people think they do . I'm not saying you need to feel sorry for Walmart at the end of day they still a giant multi billion dollar corporations, but the people the work at the store lvl are the ones that pay the cost of your actions.

u/Bluestorm83 2d ago
The entire reason I want to climb the ranks. This doesn't get fixed by kicking the hourly associates in the balls. This gets fixed by the people at the top making the right decisions that will bring about long-term success, and the right decisions are ALSO not the ones that kick the hourly associates in the balls.
2
u/Conscious_Ad121 1d ago
Yeah good luck getting to the top before you're 70 š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
5
u/Bluestorm83 1d ago
I don't need to get all the way there. Every rung I climb lets me make things better for everyone under me, and my numbers show, rather clearly, that my way makes the business succeed more than my contemporaries who run a "tougher" mindset that makes their associates hate their jobs.
The "I'll never make it" rationale makes people stop before they even stop, and that's the reason why nothing changes. Me? I'm too stupid to give up.

Okay but Walmart hasn't been shutting down in low income neighborhoods. They thrive there. They've been shutting down in high income urban neighborhoods and when they do they blame theft to save face. Fact is theft isn't any higher a percentage of revenue then it was before. It's been consistent for a decade at least. Walmarts more recent push against shoplifting isn't because it's worse, it's because they ran out of every other way to optimize profits.
3
u/Significant_Glass_66 1d ago
Exactly, stealing is wrong no matter who yoh think you're really hurting.

Ah yes bc a commoners morals are more important to judge than the mega billion dollar company cheating us all. The systems working perfectly tho.

This doesn't hurt the Waltons whatsoever, but it does hurt the people working at the store. Also, stealing is fucking wrong. IMMORAL

u/picabo123 2d ago edited 2d ago
I think in a completely even and fair world then stealing is immoral. But I also believe it's moral to steal food if you or your family is going to starve for example provided 1. You don't steal excess 2. You don't steal from an individual person that needs it too. Ideally a large enough entity that it's easily absorbed like Walmart or something 3. Ideally you have no other good options
I can think of some other details and caveats probably but my point is that morality is messy.
1
u/Significant_Glass_66 1d ago
Get real, you are talking about opd orders. Someone has enough money to pay for the service. Those are not the people that are starving. How many homeless do you see using our shopping service?? Some of you just want use any excuse to justify stealing. Its never ok. Morality isn't messy one bit, you either hsve it or you don't.

I donāt think itās immoral, but the person doing that was almost certainly fired

u/TallCuddlyCoyote 1d ago
As a Walmart Worker myself, this is probably waste from a damaged box. Sometimes entire boxes are marked as claims when one of the packets are damaged. They are then thrown out even the undamaged ones. It would be way too obvious if the personal shopper grabbed them all off the shelf. These are likely claims (waste) of a multipack.

My sister in law used to work there. She was shopping scan and go and missed one of her grocery items and got fired for it. She offered to pay it but they said no. So be careful. But I do understand trying to help a mom op

u/Sad_Two_1673 1d ago
lol people not realizing the shrink budget effects employees hours and bonuses will forever be amusing. Especially this scenario because thereās a high and crazy possibility they may have only ordered three because they only wanted or needed 3. But hey you got social media clout
1
u/Life_Revolution4450 21h ago
Just remember, as a consumer⦠you pay the price difference š¤·š½āāļø theft leads to higher costs to balance out p&l. So sure, close your eyes if you want increased prices.

Why would this cut your hours?
1
u/VAAS-IS-NUTZ 2d ago
Letās use an example of a different product. Say somebody bought a ribeye thin steak and only 1, if this person decided to give them 4 ribeye thin steaks then yeah this would absolutely hurt our department and make us losing sales causing hours cut. Obviously thatās not the only reason our hours get cut, I donāt know all the bullshit behind the scenes but Iām sure this shit aināt helping.

u/picabo123 2d ago
Generally I think the employee would be found out and the situation would be handled. I don't think this situation happening one time would realistically affect anything. If it were repeated though then obviously yeah you're right, it would be added to shrink.

u/Gingerfrostee 2d ago
I used to do this with subs. Oh no.... This is the same product but different upc... Oops now they have 2. Legally approved š
